Archie is going from comic to culture warrior again, as the Archie Comics universe fields praise and scorn over a gay wedding. After a pair of straight weddings -- both strangely involving Archie, though in his dreams -- drew national attention, the publisher behind the popular stories has confirmed that it’s making room for someone else to walk down the aisle: Kevin Keller, the series’ first openly-gay character. “Kevin followed in his father's footsteps and is returning to Riverdale as a war hero, but that's not all – It’s Kevin’s wedding day!” reads a news release from Archie Comic Publications,...

Can you believe such a comic book could have existed from Archie Comics just a few years ago? In Life With Archie #16, which looks at the world of a twenty-somthing Archie cast has recently created gay character Kevin Keller returning from war to get married to his partner in Riverdale. And everyone turns up to the ceremony… just as Archie is separating from his wife, Veronica. Is this proof that gay marriage does destroy traditional marriage after all? Written by Paul Kupperburg, drawn by Fernando Ruiz, Pat Kennedy, Tim Kennedy, Al Milgrom, Bob Smith with a cover from Batman’s...

Police in a small Tennessee town have salvaged a rare painting of supposedly the true face of Jesus from a thief who was trying to sell it to a church. The 150-year-old painting, a Catholic relic based on the “Veil of Veronica,” had been stolen and dumped in a closet for years by a thief, identified as Kelly Ghormley, before she approached a church in Madisonville to sell it, Daily Mail reported Friday. According to legend, when a follower named Veronica from Jerusalem encountered Jesus on the way to Calvary and wiped sweat off His face with her veil, Christ’s...

Archie Comics Publications has filed legal papers against co-CEO Nancy Silberkleit -- claiming she has a history of bullying and sexually harassing employees ... According to the lawsuit, filed yesterday in NY, several employees have lodged complaints about Nancy's "offensive" behavior ... including one time in 2009, when she barged into a meeting and "pointed to each [attendee] and said, '[clinically descriptive term for the male reproductive organ]' and then walked out." Nancy allegedly pulled the same "[clinically descriptive term for the male reproductive organ]" stunt again in 2010 -- but this time she also screamed out, "My [slang for...

Considering how often left-wing propaganda infiltrates our popular culture, it’s only fair that we acknowledge entertainment media that opts to remain above the fray. You may have heard about one such example: the current Archie story arc in which the comic-book world’s most beloved teenagers cross paths with Barack Obama and Sarah Palin. ComicsAlliance has a new preview of the latest issue’s first five pages, which cast the political powerhouses in some of the least partisan light they’ve ever been under.

It was revealed earlier this month that Archie Comics had put President Barack Obama and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on the cover of 'Archie' issues #616 and #617. On the first cover we peeked, the two pols are featured looking downright friendly: Obama and Palin share a milkshake, prompting Archie to declare, "Wow, I guess *anything's* possible!" Inside, Obama and Palin get involved with Riverdale High's student government election, in which Archie is running against Reggie. But, lest you think the comic book is all mush, POLITICO has learned that the company is set to announce two covers on...

Gee whiz, Archie! Riverdale High School, the stomping grounds of comic books' favorite teen and his friends, is opening its doors to an openly gay student - a first in the 69-year history of the character. "We're trying to reflect society and we're just trying to show Riverdale is a diverse place," says Dan Parent, the artist-writer behind the series. Kevin Keller makes his debut in September in "Veronica" No. 202, on sale in September, as a hunky new kid who catches the raven-haired vixen's eye. Though Veronica is used to getting her way, she's finally run up against a...

DALLAS – When comic book store owner Dave Luebke heard that after 67 years, the carrot-topped everyman of the comic world, Archie, was proposing to va-va-voomy rich girl Veronica instead of girl-next-door Betty, he decided to protest by selling his copy of the series' rare first issue. Luebke's Archie Comics No. 1 sold for $38,837...

Though it may look crude on its surface, the fact is that the Archie robot is the result of a lot of hard work by researchers at the Vienna University of Technology in concert with the University of Manitoba. Created as a humanoid robot, Archie was designed to assist humans with routine tasks such as cleaning, playing games and cooking. Although the creators hope to one day offer the Archie robot to the public, they will probably want to wait until a more advanced, aesthetically pleasing version is completed, especially since the price tag is a whopping 15,000 Euros ($21,082)....

And we thought Brangelina vs.Jennifer was shocking. Archie Andrews, the beloved, freckled protagonist of the Archie comic books has been roiled in a romantic love triangle for the past 67 years between blonde, pretty, girl-next-door Betty Cooper, and rich, spoiled, brunette beauty, Veronica Lodge. It always seemed, to me at least, that Archie's heart and future lay with Betty, and that Veronica was just a fantasy, an infatuation. But lo and behold, in issue #600 of the Archie comic, arriving in comic book stores in July, Archie proposes to Veronica in a jewelry store, while a tearful Betty and dazed...

Archie is planning to propose to long-time girlfriend Veronica, but fans and all of Riverdale is asking: What about Betty? The Betty-Archie-Veronica love triangle has gone on for more than 65 years and as these eternal high schoolers have moved through college and are now starting to act like adults. "It's the milestone 600th issue and we're serving up the Archie story of the century as Archie marries Veronica!" Archie Comics publisher reports on its Web site . Veronica, on her blog (yes, blog), writes : "I am so excited, I am getting Married to Archie. There is so much...

RIVERDALE, Ga. — A transgender city council member lost a re-election bid in a runoff Tuesday after a lawsuit that claimed she tried to fool voters by running as a woman. Michelle Bruce said that even though a judge dismissed the lawsuit the day before the vote, the suit served its intended purpose. "It was a personal attack," said Bruce, who was seeking a second term. "It was aimed at getting me out." Bruce got 223 votes, compared to 308 votes for Wayne Hall, election returns showed. Bruce, 46, landed one of Riverdale's four council seats in 2003 after running...

With more than 60 years of a certain... shall we say, style behind them, Archie, Betty, Veronica, and the whole Riverdale gang will be getting a new look in 2007, courtesy of artist Steven Butler. Rather than moving to a manga style, which has worked on Sabrina by Tania del Rio, this change will move the art towards a more contemporary comic book style, more realistic, and less cartoony. The move, an Archie Comics representative told Newsarama, is a continuing experiment and exploration with the characters, showcasing not only their timlessness, but theur adaptability as well. The first of the...

SHAFTSBURY— Norman Lear says "All in the Family" remains alive and well - at least in his spirit - after all these years. It was 35 years ago today that Lear's show first aired on CBS. The comedy series featured a character named Archie Bunker, a bigoted, working-class, family man from Queens, N.Y. Bunker constantly squabbled with his family about the important issues of the day. "It took three years to get it on the air," Lear said of the show in a phone interview Wednesday from his Los Angeles home. "I think about that journey and it was a...

Freedom will now slowly but surely make its way into Iran, and into an already liberated Iraq. Which country will cherish that freedom? Which country will now protect it, love it, and more importantly keep it? If you earn something yourself then you are more likely to value that which you have earned. If something is given to you then that entity which gave you that which you desired will value it more than you. Such is the case in Iran and Iraq. The Iraqi's were only able to overthrow their own government when we gave them their freedom. The...

Carol O' Connor was a well known liberal. Carol collaborated with Norman Lear to create Archie Bunker. An irritable racist bigot Republican. Everything the liberals would love you to believe about Republicans. We know better than to believe that lie. The liberal movement of the 60's and 70's is over folks. The movement that produced classics such as All in the Family and The Jeffersons is done with. The 60's and 70's also produced liberal musicians like Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and Tom Petty. Liberals infected our society like a virus. The schools, the colleges, the songs on the radio....
