A Hidden History of Evil Why doesn’t anyone care about the unread Soviet archives? In the world’s collective consciousness, the word “Nazi” is synonymous with evil. It is widely understood that the Nazis’ ideology—nationalism, anti-Semitism, the autarkic ethnic state, the Führer principle—led directly to the furnaces of Auschwitz. It is not nearly as well understood that Communism led just as inexorably, everywhere on the globe where it was applied, to starvation, torture, and slave-labor camps. Nor is it widely acknowledged that Communism was responsible for the deaths of some 150 million human beings during the twentieth century. The world remains...

Last night I watched Karl Rove drive the final nails into his political coffin, as he double-downed his attacks against Christine O’Donnell, on Greta Van Susteren’s show “On The Record.” It may be awhile before the “funeral” takes place, but the coffin is finished, no doubt. The night before I had watched as Rove began his public self-immolation, on The Sean Hannity Show. Hannity, to his credit, defended O’Donnell against Rove’s surprising (to me, at least) and graceless attack, after her win against Power Elite insider, Mike Castle, in the Delaware Republican primary. (Kudos to Sean Hannity for standing up...

Jesus was the son of a middle-class, highly educated architect, according to a new book, which claims the previous belief that Joseph worked as a carpenter has distorted the Bible's meaning. The book- The Jesus Discovery- claims that Jesus rose to become the most senior Rabbi of his time, thus explaining how he was able to exert such influence and why his teachings became such a concern to the authorities. Author Dr Adam Bradford, who works as a GP, drew his conclusions after studying and comparing the original Greek and Hebrew scriptures, as well as using human psychology to analyse...

The Architect as Totalitarian Le Corbusier’s baleful influence Le Corbusier was to architecture what Pol Pot was to social reform. In one sense, he had less excuse for his activities than Pol Pot: for unlike the Cambodian, he possessed great talent, even genius. Unfortunately, he turned his gifts to destructive ends, and it is no coincidence that he willingly served both Stalin and Vichy. Like Pol Pot, he wanted to start from Year Zero: before me, nothing; after me, everything. By their very presence, the raw-concrete-clad rectangular towers that obsessed him canceled out centuries of architecture. Hardly any town or...

HERE ARE SIX SUGGESTIONS FOR WHAT TO DO. 1. Your stump speech is sounding old and out of touch. You made a mistake by not giving the bored press (and voters) something new last Tuesday when you lost Pennsylvania. Come up with something fresh that's focused on the general election. Recapture the optimistic tone of your start and discard the weary, prickly and distracted tone you've taken on. 2. When you get into trouble, pick one, simple explanation. And stay with it. Take the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. You said you weren't sitting in church when he said those ugly...

Rove memo found in Nixon archive WASHINGTON, July 14 (UPI) -- Even as a 22-year-old, U.S. Republican political operative Karl Rove had a propensity for slicing and dicing the electorate, it was reported Saturday. The New York Times said it found early evidence of Rove's organizational ability tucked inside 78,000 pages of Nixon administration documents released last week by the National Archives. Within those pages is a nine-page memo written in 1973 by Rove, who would go on to become the architect of George W. Bush's rise to political power. Rove outlines for Anne Armstrong, then co-chairman of the Republican...

UNITED NATIONS - American architect Michael Adlerstein was appointed Monday to oversee the $1.9 billion renovation of the landmark United Nations headquarters building overlooking New York's East River. Adlerstein will be executive director of a long-delayed project to modernize the 39-story glass-and-steel building, which has not had a major overhaul in its 55-year existence and now violates safety and fire codes. A native New Yorker, Adlerstein is vice president and architect of the New York Botanical Garden, America's oldest and most respected center for horticulture and botanical research. In the 1980s, he was project director for the ambitious restoration of...

IMHO, Newt Gingrich won't be elected President, but he is far and away the best choice for the post of top Republican strategist. Whether this is in the RNC or somewhere else, I don't know. He needs to call the shots in 2008 while maintaining a low public profile. He can be the true "architect" of conservative victory once more. He led us to victory in 1994. He can do so again in 2008. Gingrich should be to Romney what Rove is to Bush.

I say we make "Karl Rove: One Hundred Facts" Fact #1. Karl Rove can't catch a cold, but he can get it voted out of office. Fact #2. Karl Rove is bald because his massive brains uprooted his hair. Fact #3. Karl Rove was educated in Utah. Mormons have a 4th heaven just for him. Fact #4. Karl Rove is called the Architect, because he kicks ass in a Classical fashion. Fact #5. Letterman had a derogatory top ten about Rove, but through sly manouvering and allowing the media to overpoll, 9 of the ten stayed home. Fact #6. When...

WASHINGTON – One of the architects of the Reagan Revolution is calling on fellow conservatives to withhold support of the Republican Party establishment – including most GOP incumbents in Congress this year. In "Conservatives Betrayed: How George W. Bush and Other Big Government Republicans Hijacked the Conservative Cause," Richard Viguerie, the man who invented the idea of using direct mail as a means of going over the heads of what he considered to be a biased establishment press, says it's time for radical action to save the Republican Party from itself. His plan includes the following actions, which would spell...

The alleged mastermind of a planned terrorist attack in Australia used a NSW Government website to get maps, data and satellite images of potential targets, including Sydney's Centrepoint, the Parramatta CBD and transport systems. "He was using it during office hours to look at things like the numbers of floors in a building," a former colleague of Faheem Lodhi told the Herald. "He was interested in areas dead smack in the middle of the city." Lodhi, 34, also bought a map of the country's energy supply system, which gave details of the routes of gas pipelines and the location of...

I read this article as a heads up for folks on the gulf coast. It doesn't say much but doesn't have to. All folks have to do is go to the New Urbanism Website http://www.newurbanism.org/pages/416429/index.htm. I have been to one of these Charettes and they are loaded with Government controls on individual property. A critique of the Smart Code which is the term used for New Urbanism can be found here http://www-rcf.usc.edu/~pgordon/urbanism.html The problem here in Gulfport MS is that the elected officials(most of which are new) are too inexperienced to see the long range problems it poses for the...

When Jon Stewart jokes about Republican strategist Karl Rove on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show," he usually describes Rove as a "creature of the night" - a shadowy, sinister person who avoids sunlight and traffics in evil. Tonight's edition of the PBS series "Frontline," though, shines a bright light on Rove and his tactics - much more on the campaign strategies than on the man, but nonetheless offering insight into both. And it does so without judgment, letting the record, and many close Rove associates, speak for themselves. The result is "Karl Rove - the Architect" (9 p.m., WNET/Ch. 13),...

The purpose of FreeRepublic.com's multiple message boards is to limit the topics for each board to particular topics. Posting the same message on all the boards defeats the purpose of multiple-boards for special topics. It is very annoying to see the same message on every bulletin board. PLEASE! DO THE READERS A FAVOR. STOP CROSS-POSTING YOUR MESSAGES!

What should a political party do to minimize debate on the part of their constituents over real issues and simply pre-program voters to think and act a certain way? Well, first thing, control education at the national level where you can teach kids WHAT to think instead of HOW to think. Secondarily, feed your constituents a series of one-line bumper sticker slogans which sound great but have about as much real meat as your average soy-burger. Can there be any doubt that liberals are the masters of this art? Personally, I have, for a long time now, been very wary...

<p>June 4, 2003 -- BY now nearly everyone has heard of Daniel Libeskind, the Ground Zero architect - but few know the spiky-haired showman in cowboy boots has also published a book of poetry. Or something like it.</p>
<p>"The island's hysteria, language, is tied to the wanton burning of wealth. America turns its mass-produced urine antennae toward Caesar's arrogant ganglion, while history is advocated by utopians as a substitute for defecating."</p>

FR. JAMES THORNTON In the Book of Psalms we read, "The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament sheweth His handywork." To most men living in the time before the rise of modern science, to look up into the sky was to see irrefutable evidence of God's glory and of His boundless power. The daytime dominated by the majestic fiery orb of the sun, with its life-bestowing warmth and light, and the black dome of the night, with its mysterious moon and its millions of bright stars and many planets, could be logically explained in no other way....
