July 4 Warning: American Gestapo Ahead

Every July 4, we retreat to fireworks, feast and festival in celebration of an independence that is rapidly becoming little more than a memory. Our ancestors declared their independence in 1776 from a tyrannical, overbearing government. The independence claimed by the authors of the U.S. Constitution helped them create a government expressly prohibited from becoming tyrannical and overbearing, by limiting its power to certain enumerated responsibilities. Those limitations have long been ignored, and the current government makes no apology for its overbearing tyranny. Just as American independence was foreshadowed by a tea party in Boston, America’s new independence is foreshadowed...

Cops: City liquor store owner outwits armed robber who threatens to kill him (Armed Citizen PING!)

WOONSOCKET — The quick-thinking owner of a Social District package store turned the tables on a man who had a knife to his throat and threatened to kill him for money Tuesday, police said. After a violent struggle with the robber, the owner of U-Save Liquors at 399 Clinton St. convinced him that he was too tired to fight anymore and he was giving up. In an attempt to put the robber at ease, John Quinn then offered him the keys to the store and invited him to lock the front doors before he looted the store. As 20-year-old Kevin...

Man meets burglar with gunshots (Armed Citizen PING!)

MANATEE — A resident of the Palmetto Point neighborhood came home Tuesday morning to find an intruder making off with his shotgun, but before the burglar could get away, the resident opened fire on him with another gun, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. Whether the intruder was hit was unknown, but deputies said the burglar got away with nothing. The incident started about 9:45 a.m. when a 61-year-old man came home to his residence in the 5200 block of Palmetto Point Drive, Palmetto. He entered through the front door and found an intruder wearing only black shorts and...

Watch lists, guns and government

The secret government “Terrorist Watch List,” reportedly already swelled to more than 1.1 million names, will have an addendum, if gun control advocates in Congress have their way. This new addendum — also to be cloaked in secrecy — would empower the U.S. Attorney General to deny a person the ability to exercise their Second Amendment rights to purchase a firearm. While it is not surprising that some members of Congress are again using fear of terrorism to implement a gun-control agenda, the openly unconstitutional legislative language proponents are employing is troubling. Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) is leading the effort...

Black gun owners up in arms

Bloemfontein - Police are intimidating South African gun owners and defrauding citizens of their lawful property, black firearm owners said on Thursday. Chairperson of the Black Gun Owners Association of South Africa (BGOASA), Abios Khoele, said the police had "legalised" theft and fraud. "The association is shocked to find that the police are still insisting that they can fine and imprison one million firearm owners and continue to intimidate and defraud citizens of their lawful property," Khoele said in a statement. He was reacting to the transitional period for the renewal of firearm licences in terms of the new Firearms...

Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) agents arrested two suspected white supremacists Thursday after a raid at a northern Illinois home, during which agents seized assault weapons, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and purportedly racist materials. Twin brothers Dennis and Daniel Mahon, 59, were taken into custody by agents on firearms violations after arrest and search warrants were served at the Davis Junction, Ill., home. Dennis Mahon was frequently mentioned as a possible suspect but never charged in connection with the April 19, 1995, bombing of the Alfred P.
Michigan State approves exception to weapons ban (Campus Carry PING!)

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan State University has approved an exception to its campus weapons ban allowing people with permits to carry concealed weapons to walk or drive through campus with a gun. The Detroit Free Press reports the East Lansing university's governing board voted 7-1 Friday to make the exception and avoid a conflict with state law. Guns still are banned inside campus buildings and sports stadiums. The issue was raised by campus police who had to issue citations to people with guns during traffic stops regardless whether they had a permit.

Over 90 Percent of Mexican Crime Guns Originate in U.S., New GAO Report Finds That's the headline from the Violence Policy Center press release. It is a premeditated lie. True, the qualifier "traced by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) over the last three years" is admitted in the body of the release, but even that doesn't tell a reader the number of guns withheld by Mexican authorities--or whether the ones submitted have been randomly selected or cherry-picked.
Legislature to debate allowing Arizonans to carry concealed weapons without a permit

PHOENIX — Are you 18? Not convicted of a crime? Legislation set for debate today would let you carry a concealed weapon without having to bother with the background check, training and proficiency test now required. Sen. Sylvia Allen, R-Snowflake, said she believes all Arizonans should have the right to defend themselves. Allen, who does have a state-issued permit to carry a concealed gun, said she does not believe that makes gun owners any safer. More to the point, she said the law makes Arizonans less safe. Allen’s proposal, SB 1270, does not do away with the concealed weapon permits....
