INTENT OF THE LAW What seems equally clear is that Warren and the town of King have misapplied the law; however, broad its language, Article 36A is entitled “Riots and Civil Disorders.” According to a local blogger who personally investigated the incident and described it at saradactyl.com, no such civil disorder existed. The Youtube video she produced on the incident is below.

Are you kidding me? Some one-horse podunk town of 5,000 people in North Carolina just suspends the Constitution and the Second Amendment because of a SNOW STORM????? Even the tinpot dictators in New York or New Jersey have not tried this nonsense. Where do these petty ante Major Domos come from? And how long will it take before they resign from office? Not to show my ignorance, but I thought We,The Trampled, hashed all this out after Hurricane Katrina.Wrong again I guess.

CHAMPAIGN – It was so foggy and overcast that Sunday night, Kathy Kinser just knew the burglars would be back. "If they don't come, they're crazy," she thought. "You can't see 100 yards in front of your face." Not only was she right, she was ready. The petite, articulate and oh-so-spunky 68-year-old Champaign woman couldn't quit obsessing about the theft of her brand-new refrigerator. She was angry and couldn't sleep. More troubling than the loss of an insured appliance was the violation of her sense of security. On the night of Jan. 19, burglars entered the only new home that...

Cuff, stuff, search. That's been a mantra for law-enforcement officers in East Tennessee and across the nation for more than a quarter century. No more. In a 5-4 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court put the brakes on the routine practice of what's known as a "vehicle search incident to arrest," in which a suspect is handcuffed and stuffed in the back of a cruiser and the suspect's vehicle searched without a warrant or probable cause. "A rule that gives police the power to conduct such a search whenever an individual is caught committing a traffic offense, when there is no...

Young lady I know is around twenty and wants to get a concealed carry permit. She knows the safety concepts and has been safely handling .22 rifles and other small arms for years. This would be her first handgun. In Texas, for a concealed carry permit, she must test with a caliber larger than .22. If she tests with a revolver, her carry permit is only good for a revolver. She is relatively small, so please no suggestions for .45s, .50 Desert Eagles, etc. (Like that ever stops anyone from suggesting them anyway ;o>).

During Christmas week, a registered sex offender with a conviction for attempted murder used a gun to take three hostages at a Wytheville, Va., post office. Not too surprisingly, the national media gave the crime extensive news coverage. Such sensationalism leaves a distorted image about what happens with guns every day in the United States. When guns work to stop crime, there's not nearly as much drama to sensationalize and, as a result, that much less coverage. In Oklahoma City the previous week, an armed citizen singlehandedly stopped an attack that surely would have resulted in a multiple-victim public shooting....

Remember these headlines in the Sentinel from three years ago? " FBI: Murder rate soars in Orlando." "Armed robberies shatter calm." They make headlines such as these from recent weeks all the more striking. "Odd recession perk: Crime actually falls." "FBI: Orlando violent crime drops 30%." Crime is down in most cities across the nation this year, despite the job loss and other hardships created by the recession. New York, the nation's largest city, is headed for its lowest murder count since 1962. Theories behind the crime drop include better security measures, stiffer sentencing and an aging population. But it...

Though gun rights haven't (yet) been among the chief freedoms President Barack Obama (D, China) has taken on or nationalized, it may only be a matter of time. Defending the Second Amendment now may save us more trouble down the road. In research sponsored by the U.S. Department of Justice, in which almost 2,000 felons were interviewed, 34% of felons said they had been “scared off, shot at, wounded or captured by an armed victim" and 40% of these criminals admitted that they had been deterred from committing a crime out of fear that the potential victim was armed. Allowing law-abiding people to arm themselves offers more than piece of mind for those individuals -- it pays off for everybody through lower crime rates. Statistics from the FBI’s Uniformed Crime Report of 2007 .....

ST. PETERSBURG — Now that surveillance cameras are watching virtually every store and parking lot, it's increasingly common to see footage of robberies, fights and even shootings. But the disturbing video of a double murder in downtown St. Petersburg is something different. In graphic detail, with eight different cameras and relatively good sound, the video shows the entire August 2008 robbery of Central Food Mart, and the shootings of three men. Even in an era when video has become ubiquitous, prosecutors say this stands out as perhaps the clearest and most complete recording ever of a local murder — and...

The lesson from an unsuccessful pirate attack in the Gulf of Aden this week was simple: Guns talk. The Maersk Alabama, the American-flagged ship infamously attacked by pirates in April, was attacked again Monday when Somali pirates opened fire on the ship in an attempt to board it. But the pirates didn't get far this time, after a four-man security team aboard the ship fired back, thwarting the attack. It's the first time a large cargo ship with an armed security team aboard is known to have repelled an attack, says Vice Adm. William Gortney, who commands the Pacific region...
