I attended the Arizona Citizens Defense League annual meeting in Phoenix on Saturday, 8 October, 2016.  It was a 170 mile drive, one way, from Yuma. Usually I take a friend, but I was slow this year, and the meeting and annual dinner was sold out before I invited anyone. You can see the crush crowd outside the meeting hall, registering to get in. The majority, about 80%, were openly carrying. AzCDL is one of the most successful state groups that have organized to restore the right to keep and bear arms.  The group was founded by Fred Dahnke...

Once again, the members of AZCDL have made a difference! Last June, the White Mountain Shooters Association (WMSA), based in Show Low, asked for your assistance in convincing the U. S. Forest Service to allow a shooting range on Forest Service controlled property. You responded with e-mails and letters of support for the project. We have been informed by WMSA that the Special Use Permit for the range has been authorized! The positive response to the Forest Service was so overwhelming that the usual 45 day appeal period was not required and the project will proceed. Located just 5 miles...

Friday, April 19, was the last chance for bills still progressing through the legislature. If a bill didn’t make it through hearings in both chambers and, if necessary, was heard in a Conference Committee by April 19, it is effectively dead. April 23 marked the 100th day of the session, which per the Arizona Constitution, normally means the end of the session. We expect this legislature to go on longer, mainly to deal with budget issues. Of the 17 pro-rights bills firearms bills filed this session, and despite a supposedly pro-rights majority in the legislature, only the 3 bills listed...

Look, the bottom line is the left wants to limit or take away your constitutional right to “keep and bear arms”. If you don’t get involved we may be the last generation to have enjoyed this right deemed critical to a free society by our founders. This is a plea to all to get involved and start supporting your sate gun rights organization.

The 2012 legislative session officially ended on May 3, 2012. The Senate adjourned at 8:22 PM. The House adjourned at 8:25 PM. To view a summary of legislation that AzCDL monitored this session, along with each bill’s current status, visit our Bill Tracking page. The following are firearms related bills that were signed by the Governor this session. The effective date on these legislative changes is August 2nd, 90 days after Sine Die. HB 2457, which allows the possession of an otherwise “prohibited” weapon (i.e., for self-defense) while hunting, was signed by the Governor on April 10th. HB 2639, the...

Catalina, AZ --( The AzCDL-requested and historic Constitutional Carry legislation that became law in 2010 was not the be-all-end-all of restoring the right to carry in Arizona. It was a major milestone, but there are still a century’s worth of statutes that need to be excised or significantly altered in order to truly restore your right to bear arms in Arizona. Our job is far from over. AzCDL began working with legislators on proposed bills for the 2012 legislative session shortly after the 2011 session ended. As a result, a number of pro-rights bills have been filed. Listed below are...

A new Arizona law allows any U.S. citizen 21 or older to carry concealed weapons without needing a permit from the state first. New Mexico is expected to follow Arizona´s lead. Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed the law with the no-permit requirement into law recently, The new law will go into effect 91 days after the State Legislature adjourns so it will be early summer of 2010 meaning the law would take effect sometime in the summer, according to reports. "I believe this legislation not only protects the Second Amendment rights of Arizona citizens, but restores those rights as well,"...

HB 2347, the House version of the AzCDL-requested Constitutional Carry bill, passed out of the House Rules committee on March 8th. Its next stop is the House Committee of the Whole (COW) for debate and voice vote. Unfortunately, bills are added to COW calendars with very little advanced warning, so keep your keyboards ready for an "11th hour" email offensive. SB 1108, the Senate version of Constitutional Carry, is awaiting a review in the Senate Rules Committee before it progresses to the Senate COW. We are picking up disinformation that is being spread about the Constitutional Carry bills, so let's...

Glendale, AZ --( The Arizona Citizens Defense League has joined with other pro-rights individuals, groups and several district attorneys in the filing of an “amicus (friend of the court) brief” with the United State Supreme Court in the case of McDonald v. Chicago, the most critical Second Amendment case since the Heller decision upheld our individual right to keep and bear arms. In April 2009, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled in Nordyke v. King that the Second Amendment is “incorporated” through the Fourteenth Amendment and applicable to all state and local governments. However in McDonald...

Howard Fischer's latest screed against self-defense. I've posted the article in the Star, plus my comment. Senators favor concealed guns on college campuses By Howard Fischer Capitol Media Services Tucson, Arizona | Published: 06.28.2009 PHOENIX — State senators voted Friday to let people with concealed-weapons permits carry guns onto college and university campuses. Supporters said the move would make campuses safer. The 15-6 vote on the provision in HB 2439 came after backers said they believe that having people who are licensed by the state to have weapons should cut down on the number of massacres that occur on campuses....
