PHOENIX - State legislators have all but finalized a law making it a crime for any state official or employee to assist in the enforcement of a federal anti-terrorism law. SB 1182 would block state employees from enforcing two sections of the new National Defense Authorization Act dealing with when the federal government can detain people - including U.S. citizens - suspected of involvement in terrorism. The proposed state legislation, which passed the House Thursday on a 34-24 vote, would make helping the feds with that a misdemeanor. That even includes state and local police. A nearly identical version already...

From his hospital bed in Birmingham, Ala., Mike Vanderboegh of Sipsey Street Irregulars has obtained a copy of the Department of Justice Report of Investigation of the incident where an ATF agent let a surveilled suspect with prior arrests go, after giving him a $10 bill with her phone number written on it in exchange for his pledge that he’d lead her to bigger fish. “During the inspection, a Border Patrol Agent assisting the CBPOs [Customs and Border Protection Officers] performed Treasury Enforcement Communication Systems (TECS) subject queries on the subjects which disclosed CELlS-ACOSTA was under investigation for firearms trafficking,”...

TALLAHASSEE — Until a few weeks ago, Chris Smith was little known outside his Broward-Palm Beach County state Senate district. Then came the shooting death of Trayvon Martin. While civil-rights activists led by the Rev. Al Sharpton plan more marches, church vigils and rallies in Tallahassee and other state capitals to protest local gun-use laws, Smith is leading legislative attempts in Florida to roll back or change them. In the process, he has gotten plenty of national attention — including from Sharpton. "Everybody has a role. I'm an activist and a civil-rights leader and a talk-show host," Sharpton told the...

LAS VEGAS (Las Vegas Sun) -- A Summerlin resident acted in self-defense and will not be charged in the fatal shooting of an unarmed backyard intruder last month, officials at the Clark County district attorney’s office determined. The screening unit at the district attorney’s office, which reviews all incoming cases, made the determination April 12, closing the case, Assistant District Attorney Chris Owens said. The shooting happened the morning of March 20 in the 2100 block of Spurs Court, near Hualapai Way and Sahara Avenue. NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Police said a Nashville man acted in self-defense when he fatally shot a convicted felon who forced his way into his apartment in south Nashville. Police said 35-year-old Michael Shane Martin was killed late Wednesday night at the Brentridge apartment complex off Bell Road. Investigators said Michael Moffitt and his girlfriend, Caycee Albright, heard a knock at their door around 11 p.m. and Moffitt found the door peephole was covered. He told Albright to call police while he got an AR-15 rifle and opened the door once he saw it was uncovered. Police said Martin charged in...

The sensationalism by the media against George Zimmerman for the shooting of Trayvon Martin, clouds the real reason a shooting occurred in the first place. The pundits, the community organizers, the pot stirrers, are all trying to find a scapegoat and the convenient one to blame is George Zimmerman. But Zimmerman is but the symptom of a government failing in its prime function: To provide protection and security for its citizens. If government does not provide protection for its citizens, then the citizens will provide it for themselves...and what the citizens provide will not be as professional and polished as...

ONE of the things Europeans find incomprehensible about America is its love of guns. There are two reasons they don’t get it. One is that Europeans live in a much more urbanised, regulated and crowded part of the world. More importantly the concept of owning a gun as an essential civil liberty is entirely absent. There is no second amendment guaranteeing the right to bear arms, and there is little sense that it is up to the individual to defend one’s family and property. The organisation most associated with America’s culture of guns is the National Rifle Association (NRA). The...

The Constitution of South Dakota says, in Section 24 of Article VI, the following: The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the state shall not be denied. The language is plain, with perhaps the only confusion being that of the word ‘shall.’ The word itself is nearly synonymous with ‘will,’ except that when used in a sentence in the 2ND or 3RD person it implies authority, command, threat, promise, determination, and/or inevitability. By its usage in the above cited constitutional section its meaning can be discerned obviously as being a command, and being...

It is easily on track to do that because 100,000 permits have been issued in less than six months, Van Hollen told reporters at a news conference in the room where large machines print off the licenses. "I anticipate we're certainly going to hit that 125,000 mark....

Copyright 2012 JPFO Ted Nugent and Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership go way back. We may not agree with Ted on all of his high-volume pronouncements, but on the Second Amendment, Ted Nugent and JPFO see eye to eye. Chair of the Democratic National Committee, Debbie Wasserman Schultz is presently alleging that Nugent threatened the life of President Barack Hussein Obama. Judge for yourself – go here. [UPDATE: In an email late this evening, Ryan McMillan has confirmed the validity of this story.] When the Bank of America was founded back in 1904, no one ever thought that it would one day truly be the Bank of America. As in (partially) government owned. Just like Government Motors, Chrysler, the entire student loan industry and more, the federal government’s insatiable grasping tentacles are woven throughout one of the world’s largest commercial bank and brokerage operations. And as has always been true, if you take the king’s shilling, you’re damned well going to do his bidding. The folks...

KINGWOOD - Residents at a Forest Cove town home community had quite a scare Thursday morning when they found a military rocket launcher-type weapon lying on top of some boxes laid out for trash pickup. “I was pretty sure it was real when the garbage people wouldn’t pick it up and said they weren’t messing with it,” said neighbor James Earl. Agents with the Houston division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms responded to the 900 block of Marina Dr. around 11 a.m. April 19 and confirmed that the fear-inspiring object was indeed a military guided missile device....

McMillan Fiberglass Stocks, McMillan Firearms Manufacturing, McMillan Group International have been collectively banking with Bank of America for 12 years. Today Mr. Ray Fox, Senior Vice President, Market Manager, Business Banking, Global Commercial Banking came to my office. He scheduled the meeting as an “account analysis” meeting in order to evaluate the two lines of credit we have with them. He spent 5 minutes talking about how McMillan has changed in the last 5 years and have become more of a firearms manufacturer than a supplier of accessories. At this point I interrupted him and asked “Can I possible save...
  • Tampa may seek Gov. Rick Scott's help keeping guns away from RNC protests

TAMPA — Frustrated by a Florida law that blocks all local regulation of guns, Mayor Bob Buckhorn expects to reach out to Gov. Rick Scott for help keeping concealed firearms away from protests during the Republican National Convention. The 2011 state law pre-empts the ability of cities and counties to pass any laws regulating firearms or ammunition. So while Tampa plans to ban a wide range of weapons (clubs, switchblades, Mace) and things that could be used as weapons (chains, glass bottles, water pistols) outside the convention, it cannot prohibit guns carried with a concealed weapons permit.

The Obama years have proved to be a boon to the nation’s gun industry, which has posted strong gains in jobs, sales, economic impact and taxes paid in the teeth of an economic downturn. The economic impact of the firearms and ammunition industry - a figure that includes jobs, taxes and sales - hit $31 billion in 2011, up from $19 billion in 2008, according to a survey released Thursday by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF). Background check requests for firearms purchases set records in 2010 and 2011, according to FBI data. Jobs in the firearms business jumped 30...

Everyone in the country has heard of Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman but few know the name of Trevor Dooley--a central Florida man who shot and killed a neighbor, David "DJ" James, and is defending himself using Florida’s Stand Your Ground law. The James case has a number of similarities with the Martin case, but has not been the subject of the mainstream media meltdown nor the focus of cries of racism, even though the shooter and the victim were both of different races (Dooley is black, and James was white). Critics of the authorities' handling of the Martin case...

TAMPA — Trevor Dooley's lawyers say it was an act of self-defense — pulling the trigger kept him alive. David James was on top of him, hands around Dooley's neck. Dooley couldn't breathe. He tried to warn James by poking him in the leg twice with a handgun. When it didn't work, Dooley fired. Lawyers for Dooley, the man accused of killing his Valrico neighbor, submitted their argument Thursday in a motion asking a judge to dismiss the manslaughter charge against him. Their main defense? Florida's "stand your ground" law. The law allows a person to use deadly force to...

Zimmerman was treated at the scene by paramedics, then cuffed and driven in a police cruiser to the Sanford police station. He was questioned for hours and later released. In police surveillance video obtained last month by ABC News, Zimmerman's wounds are not apparent, and there were no bandages on his head. Zimmerman was not admitted to a hospital or given stitches the night of the incident. The person who took the photograph of a bloodied Zimmerman, asking not to be identified, told ABC News exclusively that they did not see the scuffle that night, but did hear it. The...
