  • (Senator)Barrasso: Obamacare Deductibles So High, No One Gets to Use the Insurance

The Department of Health and Human Services insists that the Affordable Care Act not only expanded health insurance to many more Americans, but it also "made everyone's insurance better." But some Republicans are asking, what good is the health insurance if sky-high deductibles mean you never get to use it? The Democrats' Affordable Care Act is a mandate -- "not to get care, but to get coverage," Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) said on Tuesday. "And many people are finding the coverage is not at all of value to them because they can't get care. Either...their doctors don't take Obamacare or...

Capitol Hill Republicans are aiming to take the air out of President Obama's push for a global climate deal at next week's international summit in Paris, warning they will block vital funding if he tries to circumvent Congress. Obama and other world leaders are charging ahead with the two-week U.N. conference starting Monday, under heightened security in the wake of the Paris terror attacks. At a press conference alongside French President Francois Hollande, Obama cast the climate summit as a global statement of solidarity. "What a powerful rebuke to the terrorists it will be when the world stands as one...

Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today delivered a speech on the Senate floor citing the Obama Administration’s persistent negligence of immigration law enforcement and bolstering the Stop Sanctuary Policies and Protect Americans Act (S. 2146), of which he is a lead cosponsor, as a small step in the right direction. In addition to stripping certain federal funds from sanctuary jurisdictions, the legislation also incorporates critical elements of Kate’s Law, which Sen. The repeal of ObamaCare is the priority of the Republican party, Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) said on Sunday. There will be a vote on repeal. The president, in the White House, will veto that, he said of the symbolic gesture offered by GOP lawmakers still unsatisfied with the healthcare legislation. However, Barrasso told NBCs Chuck Todd on Meet the Press that there would also be other bills that strike at other parts of the Affordable Care Act some of which have gained bipartisan support including a repeal of the medical device tax and the employer mandate. President Obamas pick to replace Gary F. Locke as commerce secretary faces an uphill Senate confirmation battle. Even before the White House handed in the name of John Bryson for the job, Senate Republicans had vowed to block any nominee over administration foot-dragging on free-trade agreements. The selection of this particular leftist for a business-outreach post is rallying the opposition. Republican Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming introduced legislation Monday afternoon that would prohibit federal agencies from regulating greenhouse gases without a direct mandate from Congress. The Defending Americas Affordable Energy and Jobs Act seeks to stop bureaucracies from unilaterally passing economically unsound regulations for the sole purpose of addressing climate change. It has seven co-sponsors, including Republican Sens. Mike Enzi of Wyoming, James Inhofe of Oklahoma and John Thune of South Dakota. Its time for the administration to face the facts: Americans rejected cap and trade because they know it means higher energy prices and lost jobs, said Barrasso in...

Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) is introducing his Climate Change Pre-emption bill, an initiative that would prevent the EPA and other such agencies from unilaterally regulating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions without explicit Congressional Authorization. The Supreme Courts ill-advised decision in Massachusetts v. Environmental Protection Agency (2007) gave the EPA a mandate to issue an endangerment finding on CO2 and related GHG. Since this finding was issued in December 2009, the EPA has expanded its influence by leaps and bounds, regulating everything from hospitals to cars based on their tenuous relation to man-made global warming. Republicans have had little hesitation in pointing out the stagnant job-creation numbers during the Obama administration, but to be fair, theyre also predicting a big hiring boom, too. Unfortunately, that hiring boom would come at the IRS, which is tasked with enforcing the individual mandate in ObamaCare and in determining what kind of medical coverage qualifies. The Obama administration denies that it will hire more IRS agents, while HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius predicts no more than a couple of hundred extra agents. The head of the Environmental Protection Agency said Tuesday a finding that greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide are a public-health danger won't necessarily lead to government regulation of emissions, an apparent about-face for the Obama administration. The new position follows revelation of a White House document that warns the EPA of the wide-ranging -- and potentially economically harmful -- consequences of an agency finding last month that proposes declaring greenhouse gases are a danger to the public. The White House memo also undermines the EPA's reasoning for the "endangerment" proposal. EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson has previously said such a...

The [EPA] ignored major economic and scientific questions in its April proposal to regulate carbon dioxide and other climate-altering gases, according to an internal government critique.
