Former Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin defended his pardon of a man found guilty of raping a 9-year-old child, saying the conviction was not based on physical evidence. Micah Schoettle was in the second year of a 23-year sentence when Bevin controversially pardoned him of rape, sodomy and other sexual crimes last week. "There was zero evidence," Bevin said during a 17-minute radio interview with talk show host Terry Meiners on Thursday, according to The Courier-Journal. He noted the girl's sister was in the room during the alleged incident and denied the sexual assaults occured. "Both their hymens were intact," he...

Former Republican Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin drew widespread condemnation last week when reports highlighted that he had pardoned more than 400 convicted criminals in his final days in office. Bevin justified his actions by telling The Washington Post, "I'm a believer in second chances." In a wide-ranging interview with Kentucky's WHAS on Thursday, Bevin offered a fresh defense for perhaps his most controversial pardon, that of Micah Schoettle, a 41-year-old man who was convicted of raping a 9-year-old last year. Bevin's justification: There was no physical evidence of abuse and the girl's hymen was "intact."

LEXINGTON, Ky. — It’s not clear if Betty Carnes was killed by asphyxiation or by the eight blows to her head that Delmar Partin delivered with a metal pipe. The coroner couldn’t tell which killed the mother of three first, but it was very clear that her head was then chopped off and placed on her lap in a 55-gallon barrel that was destined for a toxic waste site. On Monday, departing Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin pardoned and commuted the sentence of Partin, who was convicted of killing her at the factory where they both worked in Barbourville in 1994....

In his last days in office, Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin pardoned some of Kentucky’s worst murderers. Among those he released from prison was a convicted killer whose brother was a big campaign donor. Such pardons will incite more crimes, because studies show that harsh penalties deter and prevent crime, especially murder.

The election of Beshear has been eating at me. It shouldn't have happened, and now that it has a lot of voters, teachers, and teachers unions in the commonwealth are feeling pretty smug with themselves. But they shouldn't because this is one of those, "be careful what you wish for" lessons. Here is what I'm talking about: Gov Bevin was a great advocate for individual liberty in the commonwealth. Bevin fought for the 2nd Amendment rights to protect yourselves and got constitutional carry passed, over the objections of Beshear. Gov. Bevin fought for your 1st Amendment rights and was able...

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Republican Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin's campaign requested a recanvass of vote totals that show him losing his reelection bid. His campaign sent a statement Wednesday afternoon saying it is doing so due to the close nature of the gubernatorial race and multiple reports of voting irregularities. “The people of Kentucky deserve a fair and honest election. With reports of irregularities, we are exercising the right to ensure that every lawful vote was counted," Bevin said in a news release. In a 5 p.m. news conference on Wednesday, Bevin expanded on the irregularities.

There is a silver lining to the Kentucky Governer's election results that should scare the hell out of dimocrats and give new hope to Bluegrass Republicans. 1. Bevin had a bad case of foot in mouth disease. However, he wasn't any worse than any other non-politician. What made it so bad was the fact that ALL major TV and news papers in the Commonwealth are virulently liberal. When Bevin did good things the media would turn it around and trash him. When he slipped up they made seem like he was the second coming of Hitler, and then they plain...

Republican incumbent Gov. Matt Bevin refused to concede late Tuesday in Kentucky's gubernatorial race, citing "irregularities" -- potentially kickstarting weeks of uncertainty as the closely-watched contest with national implications remains too close to call. The history-making evening also saw Republicans decisively hold onto the governorship in Mississippi despite a fierce Democratic challenge, while Democrats took complete control over the Virginia statehouse for the first time in 26 years. On Monday, Trump had called on an "angry majority" of voters to boost the relatively unpopular Bevin in Kentucky, in a nod to Richard Nixon's "silent majority" and Ronald Reagan's "moral majority."...
