I'm not asking for much. I just don't want to be sick in my mouth. I don't want to leave the cinema feeling like I've paid £7.50 to be mocked, patronised and kicked in the face. I don't want to be filled with despair at Hollywood's increasing inability to conceive of women in comedic films as anything other than self-obsessed babies with breasts. And I don't, most of all, want to spend two hours watching dreams and memories from my youth being trampled into humiliating self-parody. Is that too much to ask?

We met in college. I was from Pennsylvania, she was from Oregon. We both worked in the cafeteria. Somehow the topic of birthdays came up - she was born in December, so was I. She was born on the 16th, so was I. She was born in 1967, so was I. She was born at 10:40 am (pacific time), I was born at 1:58 pm (eastern time). Given the time change, she is 18 minutes older than I am. Any freeper advice as we crest the big hill tomorrow?

NEW YORK -- The credit card generation is getting younger. A recent poll of teenagers who participate in the Junior Achievement program found that more than 11 percent are carrying credit cards, and some of them are as young as 13 or 14 years old. In addition, three out of 10 teenagers have checking accounts, and many are likely linked to automated teller machines with debit cards. "We were a little surprised at the numbers," said Darrell Luzzo, senior vice president for education at JA Worldwide, which is headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colo. "Having a credit card is not necessarily...

The board of the Log Cabin Republicans, the largest group for gay men and lesbians in the party, has voted overwhelmingly against endorsing President George Bush for re-election because of his support for a proposed constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. The decision ends six months of soul-searching as the group, which endorsed Mr Bush in 2000 and Bob Dole in 1996, has wrestled with its divided loyalties. Although the group was immediately critical when the President announced his support for the amendment in February, it refrained from ruling out an endorsement. Its effort to balance loyalty to the party with...
