Florida Congressman Alan Grayson told radio host Alan Colmes Wednesday that if Ted Cruz is elected president, he “will file that beautiful lawsuit saying that he's unqualified for the job” according to the Constitution.Cruz was born in Canada to a native-born American mother, making the presidential candidate a dual Canadian-American citizen. It was not until a 2013 Dallas Morning News article that Cruz acknowledged his Canadian citizenry publicly. In 2014, the senator renounced his Canadian citizenship altogether.Lamenting the “appalling choices” Republicans have to choose among, Grayson told Colmes the Republican race “resolved itself into this weird reality show.”“It's not ‘The...
  • GOP debate rules could reignite questions about Cruz birthplace

Not surprisingly, the GOP presidential debates announced last week will be open only to candidates who can legally serve as president. That will make Fox News and CNN the first arbiters of Canada-born Ted Cruzs eligibility. By putting him on stage, they will implicitly be granting a seal of approval to the only contender born outside the U.S. The U.S. Constitution says a president has to be a natural-born citizen. Fox and CNN both listed Article II, Section 1 among the requirements for would-be debaters. Its inconceivable that either network would invoke that requirement to shut out the Texas senator....
  • ESTHER CEPEDA: Written all over his face (Already grasping at straws to attack him)

Rafael Edward "Ted" Cruz, native of Canada, junior senator of Texas and lover of Wagner, has thrown his hat into the ring to be the Republican nominee for the 2016 presidential election. But it's not his hat that many recoil from so much as it is the head beneath it. Let's talk about the elephant in Ted Cruz's presidential campaign: his face. OK, it's symmetrical in its composition, not too pudgy or gaunt -- all in all, a fine face, really. Some might even say he has the face of an angel. Not me, mind you, but some. Like the...

Earlier today, Alex Griswold told you about Wendy Davis doubling down on her campaign-imploding Look at the cripple ad. Or tripling down, or quadrupling down, or however many times its been at this point. She told Andrea Mitchell that the ad was fair. Oh, and Abbott is working to kick that ladder down. Well said, Wendy. But believe it or not, Mitchell said something even dumber. At about the 1:00 mark in the above video, she emitted this brainfart:.....

Cruz said in an interview with Fusion that because his mother is an American citizen he is a citizen as well. "I was a U.S. Citizen by birth and beyond that I'm going to leave it to others to worry about...legal consequences", he said.

  • Chin: Ted Cruz can be president, probably

The Constitution says that only "natural born citizens" are eligible to be president. Is Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas eligible, given that he was born in Canada of a U.S. citizen mother and a Cuban immigrant father? If Cruz runs, 2016 will be the third consecutive election in which there were questions about the right of a major party candidate to serve. Unfortunately, the Framers left few clues about exactly what a "natural born citizen" is; Congress has not used the phrase in citizenship statutes since 1790.
