The governor has spent much of her public life in high-pitched feuds—but taking on late night’s prince shows a complete lack of political sophistication. Top 10 lists about Sarah Palin's attack on David Letterman are already being written but really there is only one reason Palin should relent—she’s not a good enough politician to play. Palin has spent much of her public life in feuds with the state legislature, with her ex-brother-in-law, with John McCain’s staff, with Levi Johnston’s family. An early fight with the chairman of Alaska’s Oil & Gas Commission paved the way to the governor’s office. She...

Governor Sarah Palin issued the following statement in response to another ethics complaint filed today. Filed by an Anchorage political blogger, the complaint alleges the governor “… improperly used her position and state resources to serve her personal financial interests by being a walking billboard for Arctic Cat ...” "Are Alaskans outraged, or at least tired of this yet - another frivolous ethics charge by a political blogger? This would be hilarious if it weren’t so expensive for the state to process these accusations and for me to defend against these bogus harassments. Yes, I wore Arctic Cat snow gear...

I WAS standing just down from the radio station 3RRR at ... in Melbourne when my phone rang.... I flipped open the batphone ... and found out that Steve Irwin was dead. I swore loudly as the moment fused, possibly forever, into memory. Something similar happened millions of times over in this country alone. Perhaps hundreds of millions of times across the world. You almost certainly remember exactly what you were doing when you heard. ... Not everyone is mourning, however. ... ... Germaine Greer pulled on her redundant fright mask and charged into print to bitchslap and rake at...

Thanks EJ Dionne, for explaining to me that I’ve been used again. The entire week surrounding the vote on the Marriage Amendment, social conservatives were treated to liberal commentary like yours claiming that Republicans were cynically distracting the country from more important issues, like Social Security and repealing the estate tax. According to you and your liberal colleagues, I shouldn’t care about social conservative issues, like gay marriage or abortion. I should really care about George Bush selling me out for issues like “privatizing Social Security and cutting taxes on rich people.” I’m sorry to have to tell you this,...

I read through this thread and I got to thinking... "Gosh, I wanna be a newbie." So I figured I'd ante up and take my beating. :) My name is Aaron and I'm a newbie. The first step to recovery is admitting I have a problem. Beat down, boys. I won't flinch. :)

E-mail Author Author Archive Send to a Friend <% printurl = Request.ServerVariables("URL")%> Print Version November 05, 2004, 1:15 p.m. Openhandedness by BushHow far must the president go to make the losing party feel better? A friend — a born-again Republican — asks just what might President Bush do to live up to his promise to represent all the American people. It is natural, if one has only recently joined the communion of saints, to worry about persistent sinners. What can Mr. Bush do to win their confidence? To make them feel better? To answer that question requires that we...

(1010 WINS) (Connecticut) Sen. Joe Lieberman said Tuesday he was caught "completely off guard" by the revelation that former Vice President Al Gore was endorsing Lieberman rival Howard Dean for the Democratic presidential nomination. "I was surprised," Lieberman acknowledged in a nationally broadcast interview, but he said, "I'm more determined than ever to fight for what I believe is right for my party and my country." Asked on NBC's "Today " program about whether he felt betrayed by Gore, who chose him as his 2000 campaign running mate, Lieberman said, "I'm not going to talk about Al Gore's sense of...

THE 13 states seeking European Union membership endorsed its new compromise policy on Iraq yesterday. But even as that rift was papered over, another gaped open. The applicants from Central and Eastern Europe rounded on President Chirac of France for accusing them of speaking out of turn, and of rushing to support the United States in the crisis over Iraq. After an ill-tempered dinner of EU leaders in Brussels on Monday, M Chirac maintained that the 13 should have consulted the Union before issuing joint statements backing the US, and complained that they had “missed a great opportunity to shut...

Station management at WTDY/AM 1670 has decided to clip the phrase "bitch slap" from its talk radio lexicon after the words drew furious reaction from domestic abuse prevention groups. Talk show host Chris Krok, who used the phrase Thursday and Friday mornings against state Rep. Terese Berceau, among others, said it had been part of the station's "street vernacular." "A bitch slapping is like a pillory or excoriating somebody. You know, verbally lashing them with your tongue," Krok said Friday. But Berceau, D-Madison, didn't see it that way. And neither did many members of violence prevention groups. Former mayoral candidate...
