Thursday, January 31, 2008 JOHN MCCAINMcCain Picks Up Ted OlsonLooks like when Giuliani made his endorsement, one of his key backers moved with him: Jen Rubin hears Ted Olson, former Solicitor General (and a guy mentioned in recent Supreme Court and Attorney General vacancies) is backing McCain. I guess he's not worried about the comment in the Fund/Novak columns. 01/31 05:42 PM

Senate Republicans on Wednesday fired a warning shot at Democrats on the White House’s still-unnamed attorney general pick as Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) declared that front-runner Ted Olson would not be confirmed. The early sparring over the successor to Alberto Gonzales, who cedes power at the Justice Department on Friday, foreshadows a brutal confirmation battle to come. Minutes after Reid declared former solicitor general Olson was too partisan for the job, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) fired a salvo at Democrats who would delay Gonzales’s replacement. “If they were serious when they cried out for new leadership at the...

Might be a good time to revisit how we all heard about the the attack on 9/11 and how we reacted to the darkest day in American history. What emotions were strongest for you on that day? How did you find out? Did you stay at work? Did you go Home? Who did you call?

I'm in. And I'm in to win. Today I am announcing that I will form an exploratory committee to run for president. And I want you to join me not just for the campaign but for a conversation about the future of our country -- about the bold but practical changes we need to overcome six years of Bush administration failures.

In the next few days you’ll hear a lot about the nearly 3,000 people killed on September 11, 2001. I’d like to tell you about just two of them, two people whose names I look for every time I see a list of the casualties. Let me tell you about Ted’s wife and Ryan and Dylan’s dad. Barbara Olson started out as a ballerina and ended up as a famous lawyer. She danced with the San Francisco Ballet and the Harkness Ballet in New York City, then moved on to Hollywood because working as an assistant producer would allow her...

Just wanted to give thanks on this day for our great Solicitor General, Ted Olson, as he endures more than almost anyone can imagine, rmembering his dear wife, Barbara, on his birthday. Happy Birthday!!!

As part of the U.S.'s heavy bombardment against Taliban strongholds in Afghanistan, B-52s dropped at least one 500 lb bunker-buster in honor of the late heroine-author Barbara Olson, who was killed in Osama bin Laden's 9/11 kamikaze plane hijackings. Fellow author and American Enterprise Institute resident scholar Michael Ledeen, who's also a close friend of Olson's husband, Solicitor General Ted Olson, told San Francisco radio host Melanie Morgan this week that the bomb, emblazoned with Olson's name on it, was dropped on Sunday. Morgan shared news of the Pentagon's tribute to Barbara Olson with the Washington Times on Wednesday, saying, ...

BARBARA K. OLSON MEMORIAL LECTURE FEDERALIST SOCIETY NOVEMBER 11, 2005 A. RAYMOND RANDOLPH CIRCUIT JUDGE UNITED STATES COURT OF APPEALS FOR THE D.C. CIRCUIT It is good to look out and see so many old friends. But one is missing. This is for Barbara. It is well-known that Henry J. Friendly was one of the greatest judges in our nation’s history. Along with Holmes and Brandeis and Learned Hand, he was certainly one of the most brilliant. What is not known is that in 1970, three years before Roe v. Wade, Judge Friendly wrote an opinion in the first abortion-rights...

I'll start. Everytime I saw you on TV, whenever I picked up your book for a quick reread of a chapter, I drew strength from your convictions and your resolve. I know you are in a better place now, but, I will still miss you. God speed fine lady.

Who Killed Barbara Olson? Her many killers. September 13, 2001 12:00 p.m. ay before yesterday there were three Barbaras, close as sisters, joined by their zest for life, their volcanic passions, their total commitment to their loved ones, their fearless work for freedom. Barbara Olson, Barbara Comstock, Barbara Ledeen. All three chose to fight for their convictions. All three were singled out by the Left for slanderous attacks, dehumanizing slogans, the usual stereotypes. Had there been a feminist movement worthy of the name, they would have been its heroines; instead, because they rejected the fashionable causes, insisted on traditional virtue,...

Forgive for the vanity, but this morning I really started thinking about what Barbara Olson's reaction would have been to Zell Miller's speech last night as well as the speeches of Rudy Giuliani and Gov. Schwarzenneger. Boy, do I miss her!It reminded me just how horrible the events on September 11 were and how we must continue to fight this war on terror. I think it would do her memory a proper honor for all of us to pause and think of her for a moment.

The American Spectator took a break Wednesday from whacking Democrats. It let Democrat Zell Miller do the honors.

The Georgia senator, whose book "A National Party No More: The Conscience of a Conservative Democrat" is the buzz about town, served up a spirited keynote address at the Washington Club Dinner at the Willard InterContinental. The event was sponsored by the American Alternative Foundation, which is affiliated with the magazine.

From a speech by Solicitor General Theodore Olson to the Federalist Society on Nov. 16, 2001. Mr. Olson's wife, Barbara, was one of the airplane passengers murdered on Sept. 11, 2001.

September 11, 2001 was unprecedented in our nation's history. Our country has been attacked before. Our soldiers and innocent citizens have been the victims of terrorism before. But never before in our history have so many civilian citizens, engaged in the routines of their daily lives, who neither individually nor collectively had done anything to provoke the savage attack that they were to experience that day, been brutally murdered for the simple reason that they were Americans, and because they stood, in their countless individual lives, for all the things that America symbolizes.

Members of the D.C. Chapter of FreeRepublic.com stood vigil at the Pentagon Memorial on Saturday, March 16, 2002, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., as we paid our respects to those murdered on September 11 in the terrorist attacks. We also showed our continuing support for President Bush and the men and women in our armed forces as they conduct Operation Enduring Freedom. It was a cloudy day filled with intermittent rain. Luckily for us, the rain stopped while we were there tending to the memorial and talking to the many visitors who still flock to the hillside to spend...
