Wearing Mossy Oak's new Duck Blind camo pattern, Blackpowder Guns & Hunting editor Chad Schearer and his wife Marsha used CVA's new Electra electronic ignition muzzleloader last month to bag wild Florida porkers. Chad Schearer, editor of Blackpowder Guns & Hunting and a prostaffer for both CVA and Mossy Oak, made history on a January 14 hog hunt in Florida. Schearer is the first person to take an animal with an electronic ignition muzzleloader, CVA’s Electra. “What a way to start the New Year. I got to hunt with the first electronic ignition muzzleloader in history, I got to wear...

Supreme Court Says Muzzleloaders are Legally Firearms Cheyenne- Posted 6/28/06 Associated Press The ruling comes in an appeal by a convicted felon who says he thought he was allowed to own a black powder rifle. Such rifles are excluded from the federal definition of firearms. A spokesman for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department says the ruling will come as a blow to some Wyoming residents who have felony convictions in the past but who are now dedicated black powder hunters. Governor Freudenthal says he would favor changing the state law to allow convicted felons to continue to hunt with...

Splitting ornery firewood in a flash June 27, 2005 By Burr Morse It started with a telephone call I got the other night. The lady said she had a friend from South Carolina who had heard that maple trees can suddenly explode. He wanted to know if it was safe to let his children go near a maple tree. The lady was a little embarrassed, having to seek out an expert maple guy, but she needed an answer for her friend. I laughed, wondering if the guy had been into the sap beer, and considered making up some wise-crack answer....

A priceless relic of Victoria's history, the Plains rifle once carried by Juan Linn, the city's last Mexican-rule alcalde and first Republic of Texas-era mayor, has been found, restored and will soon be put on public display. Gary Dunnam, Victoria County's heritage director, gave those attending Monday morning's meeting of county commissioners court the first public peek at the restored muzzleloader. "This is Juan Linn's rifle," Dunnam said as he pulled the long, iron-barreled antique from a modern-day camo-print case and handed it to the commissioners for their inspection. "It is a significant artifact which reminds us of one of...

I am now a full member of a Tennessee deer camp and courtesy member of another camp in Mississippi. Both are archery and blackpowder only with stringent buck management and only allow large bucks and mature does to be harvested. I have historically relied on sidehammers but have decided to purchase an inline for optics capabilities and reliability. I have simply missed out on some decent shots at big bucks at dusk last season due to the blurring of iron sights at low light. Therefore, I'm going to take the plunge on a decent in-line. I've looked at the Remington...
