  • Obama: Don't come over until women have 'settled down'

    The Washington Times ^ | April 6, 2012 | Susan Crabtree
President Obama's conference on women got off to an awkward start Friday when Mr. Obama seemed to play on some throwback stereotypes about women lacking professional decorum in his opening remarks. "I was going to head over here earlier, and they said, no, no, this place is full of women and they're still settling down," Mr. Obama told the room. "I said, what do you mean settling down? What are they doing over there? Just creating havoc." It wasn't clear from his remarks who told the president to wait until the women had "settled down" before coming over to the...

A gay couple will use the traditional White House Easter Egg roll Monday to lobby President Obama to sign an executive order banning workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation. Jarrod Scarbrough and Les Sewell of New Mexico, partners for 18 years, will bring their eight-year-old daughter to the event to try to influence Mr. Obama on the proposed order that would cover federal contractors. "I work for a federal contractor, and there's a piece of paper sitting on President Obama's desk that would give me a little more security for my family," Mr. Scarbrough, who works for United Healthcare, said...

The Financial Survival Network ^ | 04/06/2012 | Kerry Lutz presents: Ellen Brown has been studying the government debt problem for years and believes she has a solution. Rather than governments borrowing money from banks and outsiders, they should be borrowing directly from central banks. Thus any interest owed would be paid back to the government, eliminating a large portion of the resulting debt burden. Combine this with borrowing only for projects that will generate sufficient revenues to self-liquidate the loans and you have a prescription for responsible government finance. Canada did this successfully until the 1970's, when the Bank for International Settlements stepped in and helped end the...

The Obamacare individual mandate demands that everyone have insurance coverage and penalizes those who do not carry insurance. The fine for not purchasing health insurance under PPACA is $95 per person in 2014 (or 1% of taxable income, whichever is greater), $325 in 2015 (or 2%), and $695 in 2016 (or 2.5%). Thereafter, the mandate is indexed to inflation. But hold on, there are exemptions: In addition, many people are exempted from the mandate, such as those for whom premiums exceed 8 percent of household income. Hence, as premiums increase, more and more people will be exempted from the...

I have had enough. The progression that has driven the original, relatively constrained welfare system of the United States to its present, cradle-to-grave assurances of absolute support for whatever form of Taking or Faking one chooses to pursue has taken quite a lot of Americans, including this one, to a completely different destination. Here's a sample of the fuel that's propelled us: “I believe that in a society as wealthy as ours, we should have a commitment to our seniors and to the disabled,” Obama said. “That’s not a sign of weakness. That’s not socialism.” Obama called “the basic American...

SANFORD, Fla. — New analysis of calls to police made by George Zimmerman, who shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, show a man who never offered up race as a descriptor of suspicious people in the neighborhood watch area until being prompted by a dispatcher. On the calls he made to Sanford, Fla., police he seems reluctant to take initiative in pursuing one suspicious man. Since August 2011, Zimmerman called in to a non-emergency police line seven times, according to documents released by the Sanford Police Department. Of those calls, five were made to report a “suspicious person.” In the...

Americans are sharply divided by race in their opinion of the shooting of an unarmed black teenager in Florida by a Hispanic neighborhood watchman. A Gallup/USA Today poll finds that most black Americans (73 percent) think Trayvon Martin's shooter, George Zimmerman, would have been arrested if Martin had been white. Only 33 percent of non-Hispanic white people said the same thing. The racial divide on Zimmerman's guilt was also big: 51 percent of black people said Zimmerman is "definitely guilty" based on the information available, compared to only 10 percent of whites. About 20 percent of both whites and blacks...

According to the BLS, employers in the U.S. added fewer jobs than forecast in March. The 120,000 increase in payrolls , the fewest in five months, followed a revised 240,000 gain in February. Expectations were for 205,000. My ex-colleague from Deutsche Bank, Joe LaVorgna, called for +250,000. Unemployment fell to 8.2%. And U6 unemployment fell to 14.5%. Still, 14.5% is still numbing. But the most revealing employment rate, the employment to population ratio, fell to 58.5%. That means that the nonemployment ratio rose to 41.5%. And 164,000 Americans quit looking for work. And teen unemployment rose to 25%! But that...

As Mitt Romney assumes the role of presumptive Republican nominee, polls suggest a competitive general election matchup between the former Massachusetts governor and President Obama. Typically, both candidates poll in the mid-40s, while 10 to 12 percent remain uncommitted to either side. Among these uncommitted voters, Rasmussen Reports polling shows that just 22 percent approve of the way the president is handling his job. Seventy-two percent (72 percent) disapprove. As for intensity, just 2 percent strongly approve, and 40 percent strongly disapprove. At first glance, this seems like good news for Romney. These uncommitted voters will be difficult for the...

Two years, three months, and seven days after his inauguration, Barack Obama finally offered evidence to prove his eligibility for the presidency. On the White House website, officials posted an electronic document purported to be a scan of Barack Obama's long-form birth certificate. It was a grand "I told you so" moment for the media and the left, which had worked feverishly to marginalize "birthers" as the radical counterpart of the zany "truther." You do not need to stock 20 years worth of food to be properly prepared. As a matter of fact I would advise against it. Stockpiling a large food and water supply means you have to stay put and defend it. That may not be your best option in a lot of scenarios which means you would lose that investment. Do you think you really have enough ammo to defend a 20 year food supply for...

While Mitt Romney was governor of Massachusetts, he signed into law the "Massachusetts Climate Protection Plan." So not only has Romney taken the lead on imposing universal health care, but also on combating climate change. The mainstream media (MSM) has obviously not be doing their job vetting the candidates since this hasn't come up at all in the debates. I have begun analysis of the Massachusetts Climate Protection Plan, and may follow this up later with my thoughts. Until then, here are some comments from Governor Romney and Secretary Foy on the law. Since taking office in January 2003, this...

Former Vice President Al Gore, America’s green guru, is a man who rarely says anything good about Republican politicians. But that’s until Gore read Mitt Romney’s ‘Climate Protection Plan,’ that outlined his cap-and-trade initiative in 2004, while he served as governor of Massachusetts. Grist, an environmental news website, quotes Romney as saying, “I believe the world’s getting warmer … I believe based on what I read that the world is getting warmer. And number two, I believe that humans contribute to that … I think it’s important for us to reduce our emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases that may...

Texas Republicans are calling for an Emergency Texas GOP meeting to go to winner take all. Texas is tired of being overlooked and not having a voice in Presidential Races. This might keep Romney from getting 1144 delegates and force a Brokered Convention!
  • Obama's top attorney tells the court, "Nevermind."

When our president, a, ahem, constitutional scholar, berated the court for having the audacity to consider overturning an unconstitutional law, he implied justices should think twice before doing such an unprecedented thing. Of course, Barack Obama was revealing himself to be anything but a constitutional scholar. A mere appellate court judge got so miffed he ordered the Obama Administration to submit a three-page, single-spaced paper today explaining how judicial review is something the court has the authority to do. So, Eric Holder, who currently holds the position of Attorney General in the admnistration, submitted the letter. Here’s what Holder had...

The Financial Survival Network presents: Andrew Horowitz of fame stopped by today to talk about the booming stock market. While some of us believe the rise is due largely to the Federal Reserve's unabashed money printing and convenient liquidity injections, the market is going up and the trend is also up. Therefore, if you don't mind dipping your feet into paper, you might as well maximize your odds of winning. David's new service is a good place to go and as a listener of the Financial Survival Network, you can get a discount off of the first month...

A major potential negative catalyst for financials globally is rapidly approaching as 114 banks are on review-for-downgrade by Moody's across 16 countries. Why do we care so much about ratings given their historical credibility?...In Europe, the fun heats up in the next few weeks as first Italian banks (4/16), then Spanish banks (4/23) and then Austrian (4/30) face from 1 to 4 notch downgrades and the potential to lose their short-term (funding-/CP-related) Prime-1 top rating, implicitly raising funding costs (and liquidity concerns) even further.

A virtually unseen video has surfaced that highlights the high-powered political rhetoric and unrealized promises put forth by President Barack Obama and Michigan’s top Democratic politicians regarding the heavily subsidized and now-troubled A123 Systems battery manufacturer. The video, which had just over 600 views since it was posted in Oct. 2010 on Youtube, has Obama, U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm and U.S. Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow singing the praises of the now-troubled advanced battery manufacturer A123 Systems. A123 Systems, which opened its lithium-ion battery manufacturing plant in Livonia in September 2010, saw...
