(Bill) Brady Bashed as Anti-Union

Gov. Quinn and House Speaker Michael Madigan took turns Wednesday attacking GOP candidate for governor Sen. Bill Brady as an anti-labor politician who would work to abolish the minimum wage. Speaking at a gathering of the Illinois Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Quinn told the pro-union crowd that Brady owned a construction company that only hired non-union workers, and Madigan said the Republican senator from Bloomington would work "to spread that gospel all over the state of Illinois........"

Introducing the next Governor & Lt. Governor of Illinois

Hope my fellow freepers don't mind the vaniety, but Monday was the official campaign kickoff for our newly minted CONSERVATIVE Republican ticket in Illinois. Bill Brady's election night victory on Feb. 2nd had been in limbo for a month until the closest competitor in the race (a favorite of the GOP establishment) conceded a few days ago. Senator Bill Brady and his running mate, Jason Plummer, started off the general election on campaign on Monday, March 8, 2010, with an eight-city flyaround the state to thank his supporters and launch the newly merged Brady/Plummer campaign team. The toured ended...

Illinois Dems Find Something To Investigate

Burdened by a $13 billion deficit and a rash of political scandals that make even jaded Chicago pols blush, the state's ruling Democrats would seem to have a full plate. But the Illinois Senate found time for two days of hearings on state Sen. Bill Brady's fiscal 2012 budget plan. Yes, 2012. So why did Democratic lawmakers set aside today's gaping budget holes and look to the future? Well, Brady is the GOP nominee for governor as of Friday. So Democrats decided to imagine the horror if he won the election and made good on his promise to slash the...

Dillard Concedes Gubernatorial Race

Campaign for Dillard issues the following News Release: (Chicago) – State Senator Kirk Dillard today threw his support behind State Senator Bill Brady in the race for Governor, saying it was “close,” but that Brady had won the Illinois Republican Primary. “I will help Senator Brady in any way I can to ensure the Republican Party wins back the Governor’s office in November,” Dillard said. Dillard had waited until the Illinois State Board of Elections had reported the final totals in the February 2 Primary election had been counted before conceding because of the narrow margin of Brady’s lead. “It...

Brady backs off bill allowing mass killing of shelter animals (Let the smearing of Brady begin!)

SPRINGFIELD — The GOP’s likely nominee for governor, state Sen.
Do Stricter Gun Laws Lead to Higher Murder Rates

The Brady Campaign to prevent gun violence has compiled a scorecard for each state, according to how they (the Bradyites) view each state’s gun laws. These statistics are through 2009. More restrictive states received higher scores. Utah received the best—or worst, depending on your perspective—score (0), and California received the worst (79). The score had several components, such as whether laws were in place to forbid bulk purchases, and whether there were “assault” weapons bans. Complete details are available at their site. The Guardian, doing the job American papers have forgotten to do, and using the Fed’s data, compiled each...

Local election officials face a deadline today to submit their Feb. 2 primary vote totals to the state, amid increasing pessimism from state Sen.
Brady Scorecard of States, Gun Laws 2010

Today, the Brady Campaign came out with their state scorecard for 2009. As it was hard to find a compilation of the state scores for comparison purposes, I have assembled the one below. While my own state, Arizona, does pretty well with a score of 2, we have some legislative initiatives in the works that I hope will bring us even with Utah, which has the top score of 0. Here is the Brady scorecard: AK 2 AL 2 AR 4 AZ 2 CA 79 CO 15 CT 53 DE 21 FL 6 GA 8 HI 42 IA 14 ID...

With Crime Dropping, The Bradys Lament "Lax" Gun Control Laws Nationally With New State Scores

With crime down ten percent almost across the board nationally in 2009, the Bradys are complaining about lax gun laws in most U.S, States. This is contrary to the proven proposition that more guns equals less crime. About 20% of all Brady instant checks (14 million of some 60 million total background checks) since they began in 1994 were conducted last year in 2009. Struggling to appear to be relevant, here's the latest Brady attempt at grasping at gun control straws. "WASHINGTON - February 18 - Most states have weak or non-existent gun laws, helping feed the illegal gun market...

Imagine the turmoil that would erupt if a shrill lobbying effort were mounted against a well-known American business, demanding that this company refuse service to Muslims, or servicemen and women in uniform, or people with lip rings or tattoos, or some other identifiable group. So, why should we allow an extremist group of gun prohibitionists to browbeat a Seattle-based company because it caters to armed citizens same as anyone else? The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence has launched a campaign to force Starbucks to close its doors to legally- armed citizens exercising their constitutionally protected civil right to keep...

SPRINGFIELD -- The GOP gubernatorial front-runner Wednesday proposed changing the state Constitution to ban same-sex marriages, make it more difficult to pass state tax increases, impose term limits on lawmakers and overhaul the process of redrawing legislative boundaries. "I'm trying to give the government back to the people," said Sen.
The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence has declared war on a Northwest institution, and in the process perhaps the public will discover the extremes gun prohibitionists will go in an effort to push their radical agenda. The Brady Bunch has Starbucks squarely in its crosshairs, hoping to browbeat the coffee giant into refusing service to an evidently growing clientele of law-abiding firearms owners. In an e-mail message sent out this week, Brady Campaign President Paul Helmke laments that, “Starbucks is refusing to prohibit open carrying in its stores, despite protests from loyal customers.” Over the past few months, more...

Learning Lessons Right and Wrong from the Illinois 2010 Primary

As the road salt settles in the wake of Illinois primary election, both local and national commentators are in agreement on several general themes: - Toni Preckwinkle’s victory for Cook County Board President proves that Illinois Democrats are committed to reform. - The low turnout shows that Illinois voters aren’t really all that angry. - Mark Kirk’s victory for the U.S. Senate proves that Illinois Republicans really are moderate after all. All are of course incorrect. Cook County Commitment: In fact, Toni Preckwinkle’s victory only proves that Illinois Democrats are committed to winning. Does anyone honestly believe that they would...

The Brady Campaign against their own words

Back in late October, I wrote "Brady Campaign hypocrisy," chiding the Brady Campaign--specifially, their Vice President for Law and Policy, Dennis Henigan--for his accusation that the "gun lobby" tries to hide the truth. This accusation positively reeks of hypocrisy, on a couple levels. First, Henigan himself, in arguing on a video clip that the Second Amendment did nothing to protect the individual's right to keep and bear arms, recited the amendment in its entirety--except for the "of the people" part--the very part that poses the biggest problem for the now discredited "collective rights" interpretation of the Second Amendment. Second, when...
