Former Senator and presidential candidate John Edwards must testify before a judge about his relationship with his former mistress, Rielle Hunter, a North Carolina judge ruled on Friday. The private testimony will come during a deposition set for June 20 as part of a civil suit brought by Hunter against Edwards' former aide, Andrew Young. Hunter has sued Young and his wife Cheri to force the return of a videotape that allegedly shows Hunter and Edwards having sex. Young says he found the tape while packing boxes in a home near Chapel Hill, North Carolina where Hunter lived with the...

Here is a picture of Frances Quinn Hunter, whose last name should be Edwards, according to sources. It’s from her first birthday, on Feb. 27, just one week ago. With her is her mother, Rielle Hunter, the filmmaker and ex-lover of former Sen. John Edwards. Edwards has admitted the affair, but denied that the baby is his. There is no father’s name on Frances Quinn’s birth certificate.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Democratic presidential contender John Edwards on Monday criticized former President Clinton, arguing that he allowed corporate insiders to shape the 1993 North American Free Trade Agreement that has cost U.S. jobs. Edwards' complaints about the former president beloved by voters in his own party was a defiant move meant to highlight rival Hillary Rodham Clinton's relationship with special interests. It comes two days after Clinton refused Edwards' challenge to stop taking campaign donations from lobbyists, saying many represent good causes. "It's time that the president stood up and fought for American workers," Edwards told a crowd...

Al Qaeda has a new opening graphic for its propaganda tapes: the U.S. Capitol under "attack." "The Islamic State of Iraq...March Toward Washington" reads the headline in English superimposed over a digitally created scene of the U.S. Capitol under attack in the introductory sequence of one tape released on the Internet this week. Another from al Qaeda's "as Sahab" production arm announces "Holocaust of the Americans in the Land of Khorasan" and shows an image of the U.S. Capitol to introduce a short clip of al Qaeda fighters. "This is a disturbing new trend," says Laura Mansfield, an Arabic expert...

Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards is calling on his supporters to turn this year's Memorial Day into a day of antiwar activism, saying that the best way to honor the troops is to demand an end to the Iraq war. "Each of us has a responsibility as Americans, a duty to our troops and to each other, to do all we can to support the troops and end this war," the former senator from North Carolina said yesterday during a commencement address at New England College in Henniker, N.H. Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, at New England College's commencement, encourages...

Presidential candidate and former Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.) denounced House Democrats’ new Iraq proposal as “a perpetuation of war crimes against humanity.” “What Senator Reid calls a ‘compromise’ is really a concession,” Edwards said. “This proposal may not give George Bush all the money he wants, but it gives him all the money he needs to keep the war going.” “Representative Murtha (D-Penn.) has made it clear that our troops are ‘cold-blooded killers,’” Edwards exclaimed. “Senator Durbin (D-Ill.) has rightly condemned the tortures carried out by our military prison guards. Continuing this war for even a minute longer continues the...

Edwards has a new website showing how "we" can end the war. He said while "we" are at it "we" should send goodies to the troops and posts links to Anysoldier.com and OpGratitude.com. WHAT AN INSULT TO OUR TROOPS. Send them a box of candy while they work to undermine all they have fought and died for.

In a commencement address to New England College, Democrat Party presidential candidate John Edwards has issued a call to turn Memorial Day from a day to celebrate our troops to a day pushing a political message that attacks them. He has also created a new website to further that goal and the Washington Post is helping him advertise it breaking their more common practice of not posting links taking the reader outside their own website. How often do you see MSM sources giving direct links to websites outside their own site? How many times have you seen a story mentioning...

Throughout our history, military men and women and their families have sacrificed for America. The troops in Iraq and their families continue to sacrifice today. So this Memorial Day Weekend, John Edwards is asking the American people to give some part of their weekend in return—to honor and remember all those who have gone before in service to our country, and to let our government know we want to honor our troops by ending the war and bringing them home. This Memorial Day weekend, John Edwards is asking that we all take responsibility for the country we love and the...

April 23, 2007 For the fourth straight week, Illinois Senator Barack Obama (D) has gained ground and he has finally caught New York Senator Hillary Clinton in the race for the Democratic Presidential nomination. It’s now Obama 32% Clinton 32% and former North Carolina Senator John Edwards holding steady at 17%. New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson is a distant fourth at 3%. Senators Chris Dodd and Joe Biden each attract 1% support. So does General Wesley Clark. Obama has been steadily gaining ground during April. Last week, Clinton had a two-point lead. Two weeks ago, it was Clinton by five....

NEW YORK -- Three weeks after I wrote that I thought John Edwards might be going someplace in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination, I found out where he was heading: to the barber shop. The candidate, who has been looking pretty and pretty impressive in defining "Two Americas" -- one for the rich and privileged, a lesser place for everyone else -- came up with a wonderful device to show us all what he meant. His campaign spending reports, required by the Federal Election Commission, revealed that he has been paying $400 for haircuts by a Beverly Hills...

"...imagine that Ann Coulter is seated in Smith's place. Anything to say to her?"...... Edwards, his right fist curled, feigned a punch and said: "No, there's absolutely nothing. Grow up." AUSTIN -- Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards feigned a punch Thursday when asked what he'd like to say to Ann Coulter, the conservative commentator who seemingly characterized his sexual orientation in remarks at a political confab last week. Edwards, appearing on Texas Monthly Talks, was asked by host Evan Smith to momentarily imagine that Coulter was seated in Smith's place. Anything to say to her? Edwards, his right fist curled,...

Former Democratic vice presidential nominee John Edwards intends to enter the 2008 race for the White House, two Democratic officials said Saturday. Edwards, who represented North Carolina in the Senate for six years, plans to make the campaign announcement late this month from the New Orleans neighborhood hit hardest by Hurricane Katrina last year and slow to recover from the storm. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they did not want to pre-empt Edwards’ announcement.

John Edwards defended his decision to mention the sexual orientation of Vice President Dick Cheney's openly gay daughter in a 2004 debate, rejecting Mary Cheney's criticism in a newly released book. Attending a labor rally in New York on Wednesday, Edwards, a former North Carolina senator, was asked about Mary Cheney's comments about the 2004 Democratic vice presidential nominee. In her book, "Now It's My Turn," Cheney called Edwards a "total slime" and argued that he tried to use her sexual orientation as a political tool against her father. She said she mouthed an expletive after Edwards praised the Cheney...

CONCORD, N.H. - While Democratic strategists debate which new face they should rally around to try to retake the White House in 2008 -- Sen. Hillary Clinton or perhaps a less controversial man with experience as a governor -- at least two Democrats who had their shot and lost are laying the groundwork for another try. Sen. John Kerry and his former running mate, John Edwards, both have said they are seriously considering another run. Former Vice President Al Gore, who lost to President Bush in the contested 2000 race, has discouraged the notion he will run again. Gore isn't...

U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore brought former Sen. John Edwards to Milwaukee on Monday to talk about poverty in what was billed as a "community forum" on its effects in the city. But the event had the strong hint of another presidential campaign in the making for Edwards. An overflow audience turned out at the Hillside Family Resource Center, 1452 N. 7th St., to hear Democrats Edwards and Moore discuss poverty and its impact on the nation and Milwaukee. The event was the beginning of what Moore says will be an ongoing dialogue between her office and the public on poverty...

MUSCATINE, Iowa — Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards (search) accused the Bush administration on Thursday of ignoring problems ranging from scarce flu vaccine to the war in Iraq while officials campaign in battleground states and asked, "Who's minding the store?" Edwards, speaking in a high school gymnasium during a bus tour of eastern Iowa, cited national security adviser Condoleezza Rice (search), Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson (search) and Commerce Secretary Donald Evans (search) as examples of Bush officials who are campaigning while pressing issues remain unresolved. "There's a solution for this," Edwards said. "In America, that's called...

MAPLE GROVE, Minn., Oct. 10 - If there was any doubt that Senator John Edwards is trying to raise his profile in the final weeks of the campaign, it should have been put to rest Sunday when he appeared on five news and political talk shows. His television blitz followed appearances last week on the ABC morning talk shows "Regis and Kelly" and "The View." And on Tuesday, on the eve of the final presidential debate, he is a scheduled guest on NBC's "Tonight'' show. It is all a decidedly higher profile for a vice-presidential candidate who until recently had...

FLASH: Dem vp hopeful John Edwards cut to the chase last night on ABCNEWS NIGHTLINE: ABC'S BOB WOODRUFF: "He has avoided the kind of negative attacks that can make national news, although recently, he has stepped up his rhetoric." SEN. JOHN EDWARDS (D-NC) (clip of a speech): "I'd say if you live in the United States of America and you vote for George Bush, you've lost your mind." WOODRUFF: "There's been criticism that you have been too soft." EDWARDS: "Do I seem soft to you?" END Tue Oct 05 2004 08:57:47 ET

SEDALIA, Mo. (Reuters) - From the platform of the same train car from which U.S. President Harry Truman gave Republicans "hell" in 1948, John Kerry (news - web sites) and John Edwards (news - web sites) caught fresh jeers. "Four more years," chanted dozens of backers of President Bush as the Democratic ticket emerged from their train late on Thursday and waved to hundreds of supporters. "Flush the Johns," one man shouted. Fans of presidential nominee Kerry and running mate Edwards outnumbered taunters, yet the scene was reminiscent of a rowdy hockey crowd. As Bush backers again chanted, "Four more...

WASHINGTON - Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites) held a brief, secretive meeting with potential running mate John Edwards (news - web sites), a spur-of-the-moment session in the Capitol that capped an unusual day of hurry-up-and-wait in the heavily scripted life of the Democratic presidential candidate. The two men met Tuesday in the President's Room, whether they knew the name or not, an ornate sitting room just off the Senate chamber, and they declined to speak with reporters afterward. While the brevity of the session indicated it was less than a full-fledged vice presidential interview, it came roughly a...

Edwards' persuasive powers Having long taken an interest in the career of North Carolina Sen. John Edwards (see Sept. 16, Aug. 27 (talk about bad predictions!), Aug. 5, earlier posts), we are not entirely surprised that the silver-tongued trial lawyer/politician did so well among Iowa Democrats, not to mention charming such commentators as Mickey Kaus (scroll to second "P.P.S." item) and Andrew Sullivan (second item). As we've had occasion to note, before entering politics Sen. Edwards had some of his greatest success representing families of kids with cerebral palsy against the doctors who'd allegedly botched their deliveries -- this despite...
