Tea Party Republican and one-time congressional candidate David W. Hedrick pleaded not guilty on Monday to one count of fourth-degree assault domestic violence, court records show. Hedrick was arrested at his Camas home early Sunday morning after his wife alleged he struck her twice in the back of the head during an argument. Hedrick was arraigned Monday and released on bail. He is due in court for a pre-trial hearing Nov. 2. If convicted, he faces up to a year in jail and a possible $5,000 fine. Reached by phone, Hedrick declined comment.

Republicans received further encouraging word in Southwest Washington's open congressional seat Thursday morning. A new poll from SurveyUSA taken for KING-TV in Seattle shows Republican Jaime Herrera, a state representative from Camas, leading Democrat Denny Heck, 54 percent to 41 percent. The two are vying to replace retiring Democratic Rep. Brian Baird of Vancouver. Interestingly, the poll result is not far off the vote totals gathered by the two parties in last week's non-partisan primaries. The latest results show Republicans with 53.7 percent of the vote to 42.4 percent for the Democrats.

Keith Ellison, widely hailed as America's first Muslim congressman, could more accurately be described as CAIR and Hamas' man in Congress. Congressman Ellison has been a regular presence at CAIR fundraisers and at pro-Hamas rallies in the United States. As a former member of Farrakhan's Nation of Islam , Ellison has enough anti-semitic and Islamist credentials to satisfy anyone, and had expressed openly anti-semitic beliefs in the past. Since Ellison got his start with CAIR , his attempt to provide support for Hamas is completely unsurprising. Both Hamas and CAIR are projects of the Muslim Brotherhood, which also helped...

Gordon said in a statement that, after a quarter-century in Congress, it’s time to retire. “Every decision I have made in Congress has been with their best interests in mind,” he said. “I hope the people here at home feel that I have served them as well as their good advice and views have served me. “When I was elected, I was the youngest member of the Tennessee congressional delegation; now, I’m one of the oldest. WASHINGTON (AP) - Democratic Rep. Brian Baird said Wednesday he will not seek re-election next year so he can spend more time with his family and pursue other ways to serve. The six-term congressman who represents southwest Washington said the job has been the highest honor and greatest responsibility of his life. Baird, 53, of Vancouver, serves on the House science and transportation committees. While his 3rd District seat is considered competitive, he easily won re-election in 2008 and was not considered in jeopardy this cycle. Threat to Baird not serious, FBI says The FBI said Tuesday it has closed its investigation of an alleged death threat against U.S. Rep. Brian Baird after concluding that the message left on Baird's Washington, D.C., office phone in August did not constitute a serious threat. "The information I received from our agents was that upon investigation, our special agents did not feel that the caller posed any threat and did not intend to conduct any act of terrorism," said Lindsay Godwin, spokeswoman for the FBI's Washington, D.C., field office. "The investigation is now closed."

There was a lot of noise made back in August of this year over Congressman Brian Baird, (D. Wa.) canceling out on all of his town halls over alleged death threats he claims he received. Baird was under fire from both sides for not holding face to face meetings with constituents and was strongly criticized for incendiary comments made comparing town hall attendees to “Nazi’s,” “Brown Shirts,” “Timothy McVeigh” and the like, which he eventually apologized for and agreed to hold some town halls. The day after the first town hall, Baird again came under heavy criticism for what was...

There is a Marine in Southern Washington, Camas to be exact, who became famous because of YouTube and a sternly worded lecture at a Town Hall meeting. David Hedrick had the fortitude to bluntly call Representative Brian Baird to account on several issues. Health care, the teaching of our children, and the upholding of one’s oath to the Nation, were among the issues this brave Marine took Baird to task for.

Hedrick's first confrontation at a Town Hall Meeting occurred on August 18, 2009, in Clark County, Washington. This time, Hedrick took the microphone and introduced himself, telling Baird, "God must be smiling on me, because you have made the unlucky choice of picking my number again." Brian Baird Town Hall meeting Sept 2, 2009 this video is an exchange between a young conservative man and Rep. Baird became a little incensed at the way the young man personalized one key part of his statement. Brian Baird’s rebuttal was interesting in the sense he started to go to half-truths and painted an illusion that the Republican Party was the problem with debt. Because of the spin there is 2-minute segment that address the half-truths and bring some reality back to the issue. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYp0BetIZAE

Did he or didn't he? It has been a bit of whirlwind especially on a few blog sites. We're talking about whether our Congressman Brian Baird reported a death threat to Capitol Police. Let me back up a little: -- Baird opted not to hold public town hall meetings on health care. He made the decision because he was concerned about what he was seeing out there at other town hall meetings. Safety issues. -- Baird said part of his decision was based on some death threats he had received. -- He called some of the tactics he had seen...

Hedrick has really made an impact with his remarks. His words have resonated because he encapsulated in a few words what millions of Americans are feeling about ObamaCare and what Democrats have been saying and doing. Brian Baird still hasn't decided how he'll vote on a proposed health-insurance reform bill, but he has some key principles in mind, the Vancouver Democrat told about 6,000 Southwest Washington residents Friday afternoon: • If you have a health-insurance policy you like, you can keep it. • Reforms will ensure that people can't be denied coverage. • The U.S. House of Representatives bill won't add to the national deficit. • Any public option wouldn't be subsidized by other revenue. • If it's socialized medicine, Baird won't support it. Those were among Baird's responses and introductory comments during a...

Secret Service looking into Obama-Joker fax By Eric Messinger Posted: 08/07/09 05:03 PM [ET] The Secret Service may investigate a fax sent to a Democratic lawmaker that depicts President Barack Obama as the Joker and warns of “death to all Marxists.” The black-and-white fax portrays Obama in makeup similar to that worn by actor Heath Ledger in his portrayal of the Joker in last summer’s “The Dark Knight.” On Obama’s forehead is a communist hammer-and-sickle insignia, and beneath the image is the text: “Death to All Marxists! Foreign and Domestic!” Rep. Brian Baird (D-Wash.) received the fax and passed it...

For fear of being 'ambushed' by Republican "lynchmobs," Democratic congressman Brian Baird (WA-3) said he refuses to hold in person town hall meetings over the summer month long congressional recess. Citing the G.O.P.'s "Brown Shirt tactics" as the impetus for his decision, Baird told the Columbian he will instead hold a telephone town hall. ...

Over 10 years in Congress, U.S. Rep. Brian Baird has stayed tethered to his district, flying back to Southwest Washington for more than 300 sometimes-bruising town hall meetings during Congressional recesses. But this year, he's literally decided to phone it in. Instead of appearing in person, where "extremists" would have "the chance to shout and make YouTube videos," Baird said Wednesday, he's holding what he calls "telephone town halls" instead. Baird said he's using the new system because he fears his political opponents may be planning "an ambush" to disrupt his meetings, using methods Baird compared to Nazism. "What we're...

A US congressman plans to brief fellow members of Congress and the Obama administration about his recent trip to Gaza, saying the US should pressure Israel regarding border closures and reassess its military support for the Jewish state. Slideshow: Pictures of the week Rep. Brian Baird, a Democrat from Washington state, visited Gaza last week with fellow Democratic Rep. Keith Ellison of Minnesota and was struck by "the level of destruction, the scope of it, specifically the civilian targets - schools, hospitals, industry." Baird also said Israel had "apparently willfully destroyed any capacity of the Palestinians to rebuild their own...

During the opening segment of "Special Report with Brit Hume" today, the presentation was about Chairman of the Federal Reserve Ben Bernacke testifying in front of Congress again, and Southwest Washington Congress Critter Brian Baird (D. WA) made a very interesting statement when quizzing the Chairman about the wisdom of "investing" in large Public Works projects back home as yet another Federal Economic Stimulus... "In my District, schools, roads, bridges, water treatment projects are waiting to be done; permitted, designed, ready to go, they lack the capital." I live in Brian Baird's 3rd Congressional District, and to my knowledge there...
