Geordies are known to be some of the friendliest people on the planet but, get on our nerves, and we can quickly put you in your place. It’s been confirmed Tyneside was the birth place of the word ‘charva’ and you can barely walk through Toon on a Friday night without hearing someone being described as a ‘workyticket’. Here’s a look at some of the best Geordie put-downs. Charva/Charv Usage: “How man, have a deek at them charvas gannin’ radgie owa there”. It’s basically the Geordie word for ‘chav’. The Oxford English Dictionary’s online service confirmed the term was born...

As the clock strikes three, the low notes of the organ rumble softly round the chapel. The last of the winter sunshine catches the greens, golds and deep reds of the stained glass windows, while the half-light of 1,000 candles illuminates the glorious fan-vaulted ceiling. The building is packed, as it is every Christmas Eve — and yet an expectant hush has descended. Only the microphones hanging low above the pews bear witness to the millions across the world who also listen and wait.

Britain should apologize for its 1917 declaration endorsing the founding of a Jewish homeland in Palestine, and should recognize Palestine as a state, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas told the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday. Abbas said that the Palestinian people had suffered greatly because of the Balfour Declaration, in which Britain said it favoured the establishment of a national home for the Jewish people in Palestine but that this should not undermine the rights of others living there. “We ask Great Britain, as we approach 100 years since this infamous declaration, to draw the necessary lessons and to bear...

The long-lost ship of British polar explorer Sir John Franklin, HMS Terror, has been found in pristine condition at the bottom of an Arctic bay, researchers have said, in a discovery that challenges the accepted history behind one of polar exploration’s deepest mysteries. HMS Terror and Franklin’s flagship, HMS Erebus, were abandoned in heavy sea ice far to the north of the eventual wreck site in 1848, during the Royal Navy explorer’s doomed attempt to complete the Northwest Passage.

Note the date, this is an older article, however, I did a search and did not get any hits so I thought others would enjoy this as well. British SAS attack ISIS in Burkas! Here's an ISIS story that will make your day! This is one time you will actually appreciate how useful the burka can be! British special forces troops donned the full-length Islamic dress to sneak undetected through the ISIS' de facto capital Raqqa and take down their terrorist commander, news reports. The eight-man SAS squad also eliminated several jihadi fighters after lifting up their burkas and opening...

An American woman was killed and five other people injured in a stabbing attack in London’s Russell Square by a Norwegian man of Somali origin who was arrested after the incident, authorities said. "So far we have found no evidence of radicalization or anything that would suggest the man in our custody was motivated by terrorism," Rowley said. He said the woman who died was a 60-year-old American, and the five injured people are British, American, Israeli and Australian. None had life-threatening injuries. Two remain in a hospital, while three others have been discharged.

Which is why the elite don't see what the problem is To listen to the howling and wailing from the political and media elites, you’d think the British people were forcing their government to close all the hospitals and burn all the schools down. The reaction to Britain’s exit from the European Union has been that over-the-top hysterical. The British Empire survived for many centuries before anyone ever conceived of the EU – which was only established in 1993 – and I think it can probably do just fine once again not being a member of it. But you’d never...

srael and Britain’s relations will not change once Britain leaves the European Union (EU), British ambassador to Israel David Quarrey said on Friday. Speaking to Channel 2 News after UK residents voted to leave the EU in a referendum and Prime Minister David Cameron announced his resignation, Quarrey said, “The relationship between Britain and Israel will not change significantly.” "...lies...more lies...self delusion..." .....

President Barack Obama stands by his comment that Britain would move to the back of the queue when it comes to trade deals with the United States if it left the European Union, the White House said on Friday. "Obviously, the president stands by what he said and I don't have an update of our position," White House spokesman Eric Schultz told reporters at a briefing. Obama urged Britain to remain in the EU when he visited London in April and warned that a trade agreement between the two countries would not happen anytime soon if Britain left the bloc.

A British Special Air Service (SAS) sniper took out two Islamic State bombers with a single shot, saving hundreds of lives in the process. The SAS sniper took his shot from just over half a mile away, killing the terrorist driver in a split second. But the story doesn’t end there. The bullet passed through the driver’s head and also hit his accomplice in the neck — an incredible feat, given these two targets were moving.

Sadiq Khan, London’s first Muslim mayor, announced Monday that “body shaming” advertisements will no longer be allowed in London’s public transport. “As the father of two teenage girls, I am extremely concerned about this kind of advertising which can demean people, particularly women, and make them ashamed of their bodies. It is high time it came to an end,” Khan said. The mayor added, “Nobody should feel pressurised, while they travel on the Tube or bus, into unrealistic expectations surrounding their bodies and I want to send a clear message to the advertising industry about this.” Khan was not clear...

The BBC has warned English football fans not to dress as crusaders when attending the Euro 2016 tournament this summer as they might cause offence to Muslims. The advice comes via their ‘iWonder’ website, aimed at a younger audience, which asks such pressing questions as “Was Shakespeare a feminist?” and “How green is my commute?” Posing the question: “Is it wrong to dress as a crusader for an England match?” the answer appears to be a resounding “yes”. “Crusaders were the perpetrators of violent attacks across Europe and the Middle East on Muslims, Jews and pagans,” the website intones, suggesting...

A few paces west of the public beach in Yorktown, Virginia, is a little cave looking out toward the water. We all know Yorktown from history class. This is where, in October 1781, the British army commanded by Lord Cornwallis surrendered to the Americans under General George Washington and the French under the Comte de Rochambeau. It’s not much of a cave, really, but tourists by the thousands stop to peep into it, as they have for more than two centuries. It is known to this day as “Cornwallis’s Cave,” and for most of our history visitors have been told...

It is high time for me to put an end to your sitting in this place, which you have dishonored by your contempt of all virtue, and defiled by your practice of every vice; ye are a factious crew, and enemies to all good government; ye are a pack of mercenary wretches, and would like Esau sell your country for a mess of pottage, and like Judas betray your God for a few pieces of money. Is there a single virtue now remaining amongst you? Is there one vice you do not possess? Ye have no more religion than my...

Boris Johnson was accused of 'dog whistle racism' and likened to right-wing 'Tea Party' politicians in the US this morning after his attack on the 'part-Kenyan' Barack Obama. The Mayor of London spoke out against the US President after he urged British voters to stay in the EU and mentioned his African ancestry as he criticised the decision to remove a bust of Sir Winston Churchill from the Oval Office shortly after Mr Obama entered the White House. Mr Johnson - who is favourite to succeed David Cameron as Prime Minister - suggested the President got rid of the statue...

Half of British Muslims want gay sex to be made illegal, according to a new poll. The survey for Channel 4 found there was a “chasm” between views among the British Muslim community and mainstream opinion in this country. It found 52 per cent of Muslims said homosexuality should not be legal in Britain. Of more than 1,000 British Muslims polled by ICM, 39 per cent agreed “wives should always obey their husbands”, and 31 per cent said it was acceptable for a man to have more than one wife. The survey also found 23 per cent said they supported...

In the early days of the Revolutionary War, the British held a tight grip on the city of Boston. On April 19, 1775, colonial forces attempted to confront the British in Lexington and Concord. Although the British prevailed, this was the beginning of the siege of Boston.General Artemas Ward was given control over the various groups of militia by Brigadier General William Heath on April 20. Ward found it difficult to fully control the different militias but managed to position them in a siege line that ran from Roxbury to Chelsea which blocked in Boston and Charlestown.Ward’s forces were bolstered...
