The fracture of the Tea Party and 9/12 protest groups has begun, with some protesters following Republican Dick Armey into partisan activism and others chasing jet trails after anyone from Glenn Beck to John Birch. In North Texas alone, three different political factions are selling "Tea Party Training" or "Tea Party Boot Camp," where for $25 wannabe activists can learn everything from Armey economics to conspiracy theories taught by a "birther." So far, it’s been tough to tell who’s on which Republican or Libertarian team in the Tea Party protests. Actor Stephen Baldwin, a speaker at Armey’s Sept. 12 Washington...

BAHTIYAR MAHNUT, a detainee at the US military prison at Guantánamo Bay, learned a few weeks ago that the Pacific island nation of Palau had invited him to settle there. It should have been cause for celebration, especially for a man who desperately wants to be free. But, to the surprise of his lawyers, Bahtiyar has turned down the offer. He wishes to remain a prisoner, they say, so he can look after his older brother, a fellow detainee. The brothers’ saga, as related by their attorneys and military records, could transpire only in the context of Guantánamo Bay and...

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu said Wednesday that she will try to rescind $190,000 she recently secured in the federal budget for a nonprofit New Orleans organization incorporated by her brother. Landrieu was responding to an article published Wednesday in The New York Times, which reported that the money went to the Lake Mary Community Center. Her brother, Martin, helped incorporate the organization to convert an abandoned synagogue in 2007. The project never came to fruition because the group couldn’t secure the necessary private funding. Landrieu had contacted her brother about the center but was unaware that, as a...

In all of its searches, Canada Free Press (CFP) has found no comment from any official in the Obama administration repudiating the Forum.

Obamas may come out of woodwork: Just days before the election, the media focused briefly on the news that Barack Obama's paternal aunt was living illegally in public housing in Boston. While the story didn’t get much traction, it offered a glimpse of things to come: With the spotlight shining so hard on the next president, distant family members are likely to get caught up in the glare. The Obama family tree, by contrast, is a veritable ancestral Banyan, with roots and branches extending to four continents. There are many half-siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles. That means there may be...

Dear 1/2 Brother Barack: My Kenyan neighbors and I understand that you like helping your poor struggling African brothers. As you and I are brothers by birth, they said that I should write to you. My community has been discussing that after your country's election, we would welcome you to obtain employment as a "community organizer" here in Kenya. Maybe after Novermber, you will please leave behind your dreams of changing the bitter Americans, and reclaim your roots here in Kenya by blessing us with your organizing skills just as you did in Chicago. WASHINGTON — The younger brother of Republican presidential candidate John McCain has withdrawn from campaign activities and apologized for swearing at an emergency dispatcher after he called 911 to inquire about a traffic jam on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. Joe McCain, 66, said he was stepping aside to avoid becoming a liability for the Arizona senator before the Nov. 4 election. In an interview Saturday, he described the 911 call as "the biggest mistake I will ever make in my life, at least in politics," and said he thought he had hung up the phone before uttering an expletive. To follow Christ is to become more like Him. It is to learn from His character. As spirit children of our Heavenly Father, we do have the potential to incorporate Christlike attributes into our life and character. The Savior invites us to learn His gospel by living His teachings. To follow Him is to apply correct principles and then witness for ourselves the blessings that follow. This process is very complex and very simple at the same time. Ancient and modern prophets described it with three words: “Keep the commandments”—nothing more, nothing less. Developing Christlike attributes in our lives is...

A brother of Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Ahmed Wali Karzai, may be involved in the illegal drug trade, which is prompting serious concern among top US officials, The New York Times reported on its website Saturday. Citing unnamed US officials, the newspaper said the US ambassador to Afghanistan, the Central Intelligence Agency's station chief and their British counterparts, discussed the allegations against Ahmed Wali Karzai with Hamid Karzai as far back as 2006. But the Afghan president has so far resisted calls to move his brother out of the country, arguing he had not seen any conclusive evidence against Ahmed,...

The muddy lanes and rickety shacks of Huruma slum are known for their poverty, disease and outbreaks of gang violence — but for Barack Obama’s half-brother it is the place he calls home. Yesterday, as the Democratic nominee moved ever closer to the White House, George Hussein Onyango Obama, the youngest of his halfsiblings, responded to claims that his family had abandoned him by insisting that he was content with life in a simple wooden hut. “Life in Huruma is good. In other places you must lock yourself in to keep yourself safe,” he told The Times. “Here I am...

Microsoft is developing Big Brother-style software capable of remotely monitoring a worker’s productivity, physical wellbeing and competence. The Times has seen a patent application filed by the company for a computer system that links workers to their computers via wireless sensors that measure their metabolism. The system would allow managers to monitor employees’ performance by measuring their heart rate, body temperature, movement, facial expression and blood pressure. Unions said they fear that employees could be dismissed on the basis of a computer’s assessment of their physiological state. Technology allowing constant monitoring of workers was previously limited to pilots, firefighters and...

I have been providing portions from my book, Is the Mormon My Brother?, which define, from exclusively LDS sources, the teachings of Mormonism regarding the central definitional doctrine of any theistic religion: the doctrine of God. Given the presidential aspirations of Mitt Romney, a Mormon, this topic is once again in the public eye, and sadly, the general ignorance of LDS teaching on the part of the public at large is simply absymal. The idea of latter-day revelation opens up for us a second level of authoritative teachings from which we can glean a great deal of information about the...

AL ASAD, Iraq, Sept. 22, 2006 — While growing up, Daniel and Anthony Martinez, U.S. Marines from Michigan's Bay City, were typical young brothers - they fought and argued. But when Daniel was injured last month after a suicide bomber attacked his unit's post in Iraq's Al Anbar Province, everything changed. For the two Marines, who are just one year apart in age and both stationed in Iraq, communication has been sparse at best - Anthony serves at this sprawling U.S. airbase, while Daniel serves on a much smaller outpost northwest of Al Asad. Plus, the brothers' daily duties leave...

Boys with a number of elder brothers are more likely to grow up to be gay than boys with relatively fewer older brothers, younger brothers or sisters of any age - but is not the result of upbringing, says a study published today. For each additional older brother, a boy's chance of being homosexual increases by a third, it says. Prof Anthony Bogaert, at Brock University, in St Catherine's, Canada, says his research provides strong evidence that sexual orientation may be the result of biological processes in the womb. "If you have a biological brother, and you never even lived...
