US school student arrested for 'burping audibly' in class Washington, Dec 3 : A seventh-grader in a US school was reportedly arrested after he ‘burped audibly’ during a class. The 13-year-old from Cleveland Middle School alleges that after he burped, his teacher called the school resource officer, who in turn called the authorities to have him arrested for ‘interfering with public education’. The student has filed a civil rights lawsuit naming his teacher, principal and a police officer. It also claims that school authorities transported him from the school to the detention facility without notifying his parents. “They are using...

November 29, 2009 Australia's answer to global warming - breed a burp free sheep Anne Barrowclough in Sydney The Australian Government's plans to enact a law for an emissions trading scheme are in chaos and the opposition Liberal party is in meltdown over the climate change legislation. But Australian scientists have their own cunning plan to stop global warming - breed a sheep that doesn't burp. Farting cows and sheep have been blamed for most of the methane emissions that have helped take Australia to the top of the world's carbon footprint league table. Around 12 per cent of the...

Thursday, March 05, 2009 By Andrea Thompson Aquatic animals that feed on lake and stream bottom sediments burp out small amounts of nitrous oxide, a potent greenhouse gas, a new study finds. While the biological emissions from these critters pales in comparison to the nitrous oxide emitted by fossil fuel burning, their contribution could increase as more and more nitrogen-rich fertilizer runs off into lakes, streams and seas, the authors of the study said.Nitrous oxide (N2O) is more commonly known to anyone who has sat in the dentist's chair as laughing gas.In the atmosphere it is a powerful greenhouse gas, packing...

In the wake of Benazir Bhutto’s assassination, Wolf Blitzer of CNN made much of an e-mail, exclusively provided to him by a close associate of Bhutto and a Hillary Clinton supporter, casting blame on Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf for her murder. We can now understand why Musharraf’s November 3 state-of-emergency decree took foreign news outlets like CNN off the air. Musharraf, who is one of the main targets of the Al Qaida international terrorist organization, recognizes that the so-called “CNN effect” in global affairs can destabilize foreign governments, including his own. It’s no wonder that he recently complained about being...

(As Prepared for Delivery) July 17, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Mr. President, these are very difficult days in our history. The war in Iraq continues to impose an unacceptably heavy toll on our military, their families, our national security, and our ability to lead the world. I intend to vote for the Levin-Reed amendment, and I urge the Senate to approve it. America is paying an enormous cost for a war we never should have fought, and it’s time to bring it to an end. The war has divided us here at home, and it has made us more isolated...

LONDON (Reuters) - Manners aside, getting cows to burp less can help reduce global warming. Using modern plant-breeding methods to find new diets for cows that make them belch less is a way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, scientists said on Monday. The key is developing new varieties of food that are easier for cattle to digest and also provide a proper balance of fiber, protein and sugar, said Michael Abberton, a scientist at the UK-based Institute of Grassland and Environmental Research. This could open up plant-based solutions as alternatives to reducing stock as farmers look for ways to cut...

OSLO, Norway, April 2 -- The owner of a dog that was caught on tape sneaking into a Norwegian gas station to steal candy says his pooch is a repeat offender. The 7-year-old bull terrier named Conan spent some time behind bars last week before his owner, Liss-Hege Jeremiassen, bailed him out, Aftenposten reported Monday, quoting a story in the Norwegian-language newspaper Adressavisen. "He is incredibly fond of food in general and sweets in particular. He has run off a few times before and he always heads for food stores," Jeremiassen said. The dog apparently snuck out Wednesday night and...

Could a dangerous gas buildup at the bottom of the ocean bubble up and wipe out most life on Earth? According to some researchers, it already has done so; several times. Scientists mostly agree that it was an object from space that crashed into Earth 65 million years ago, killing off much of the planet's life, including most of the dinosaurs. But geologists have found evidence of four other major mass extinctions and more than a dozen other smaller similar extinctions over the past 500 million years. In addition they've not found any corresponding evidence of a collision from an...

The Indian-Israeli terror nexus Shireen M Mazari The present situation in the Middle East shows the desperate need for the UN to include state terrorism within any international convention on terrorism. Israel's unleashing of its military might against the Palestinian Authority and Palestinian people and against the hapless Lebanese state shows most starkly the terrorism a state with massive military resources can unleash. With US President Bush and his faithful sidekick Tony Blair, continuing to declare their absurd refrain of Israel's "right to defend itself", the international community has been reduced to a frustrated spectator to this latest act of...

Can drinking it slow the aging process? A new study in Austria says yes -- but that may not be enough to help large domestic brewers. With St. Patrick's Day and March Madness soon upon us, Americans probably don't need any more reasons to toss back a few beers. But we'll give you some anyway. Researchers in Austria and the Czech Republic -- two nations that drink more than their fair share of suds -- have just released studies that suggest that beer is an anti-inflammatory and can slow the aging process. In a study published in the March issue...

Yeah! Made it to the weekend and it's hunting season. Since Turkey Day is just a few days away that means my two favorite football games are up. UT vs. TAMU and the Cowboy's Thanksgiving Debacle. But looming on the horizon is the dreaded Christmas gift-shopping. Maybe this year I'll get it done well before we head off to the folks place....nah, who am I kidding. Another couple of fine pieces from Prime Choice:

In case you missed it, I hope you are going to be as angry as I am. As the DemocRATS are celebrating the 2000th death of an American hero in the war, they can barely contain themselves. But Senator Edward "Ted" Kennedy has gone way over what anyone would consider decent behavior. On Tuesday, on the floor of the Senate, when discussing the 2000th death of a hero, he actually used the following words: "On this auspicious day . . ." I read it at mensnewsdaily.com Don’t think their[sp they're] celebrating? I give you Senator Edward (the Killer) Kennedy. He...

Brendan Walsh, 27, nearly killed Noel Duff when he stabbed him seven times in a drunken rage because he mistakenly believed his friend had attacked his sister, Karen, whom Mr Duff had started dating. Burp....scuze me, please pass the green bean casserole...WHAT? IT's GONE!??? Aunt Sherry TOOK IT?? Well gang, if you're a typical family and either hosted a party last night or today or went to the party, then you have two differing dilemmas. If you hosted the part, chances are good you have a fridge full of leftovers; enough to feed a small army or a couple of teenagers. If you attended a party, then did you sneek a bowl of broccoli and cheeze or some turkey for a sandwich. When you got home, was there a sense of 'emptiness' in YOUR...

Two 'highlights' from Elizabeth Edwards' just-completed interview on the Larry King show: 1. in describing the need to bring the country back together after the election, she expressed the fear W would be incapable of doing it, because he engaged in "character assassination" during the campaign; and 2. asked what her priorities would be if her husband and Kerry are elected, she mentioned her desire to be an advocate for military families, saying they haven't been fairly treated, and that military families hesitate to criticize W for fear of "recriminations by the Commander-in-Chief."

Burp vaccine cuts greenhouse gas emissions 25 September 04 Exclusive from New Scientist Print Edition. You cannot stop a sheep belching or farting, but you can make sure its eructations are less damaging to the environment. Belches and, to a far lesser degree, farts from sheep, cows and other farm animals account for around 20% of global methane emissions. The gas is a potent source of global warming because, volume for volume, it traps 23 times as much heat as the more plentiful carbon dioxide. To protect the planet from such ruminant effusions, a team led by Andre-Denis Wright of...

Kobayashi's dominance a lot to swallow By Darren RovellPage 2 CONEY ISLAND, N.Y. -- Three minutes into the Nathan's International Hot Dog Eating Contest, Japanese speed-eater Takeru Kobayashi had scarfed down 17 hot dogs and buns. There were nine minutes remaining, but Kobayashi had already bested the personal highs of more than half of the competitors. The numbers don't lie, even though they're nearly impossible to believe. For the third consecutive year, the event was no contest as Kobayashi dominated. Although he did finish six hot dogs and buns short of the record he set last year, Kobayashi's 44½...

WASHINGTON - Sen. Edward M. Kennedy snubbed President Bush yesterday, refusing to attend a Rose Garden speech on the ``No Child Left Behind Act.'' Kennedy and Rep. George Miller (D-Calif.), the top Democrats on the Senate and House education committees, boycotted the event, angered by inadequate funding for the measure they worked with Bush to enact last year. ``They simply won't cough up the resources to make school reform work,'' Kennedy said. The act redefines the federal role in K-12 education and aims to increase school accountability and parent involvement. ``The era of low expectations and low standards is ending;...
