  • The Case For George P. Bush-IMHO

    05/23/2022 7:17:37 AM PDT · by DIRTYSECRET · 105 replies
Incumbent Ken Paxton-8 years in office. Shouldn't he move on to something else? George P's a Trump supporter who went against the entire Bush klan without disowning them. Too many here see him as the family scapegoat. He's been a loyal republican who didn't support Hillary. The left calls us all haters and I can see an element of it here. He'd do well at the job and the case can be made for a change based on party health alone.

Interviewing Donald Trump, GOP front-runner, requires two things of a reporter: a tape recorder to catch each and every one of Trump’s rapid-fire responses, and a willingness to chat. Unlike most contenders, Trump doesn’t really sit for an interview, calmly answering question after question. Instead, he plunges into a roiling, tangential, and humor-spiked conversation from the moment his assistant, Rhona Graff, connects you with his line at Trump Tower. Earlier this week, Trump had a 35-minute call with The Washington Post. Several of his observations and answers made it into Thursday's story on the long-simmering melodrama between him and the...

A pro-Rand Paul Super PAC is out with a new “Bailout Bush” digital advertisement Monday that criticizes former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush for his position on the 2008 Wall Street bailout and accuses him of taking a bailout of his own when his father was president. The ad from America’s Liberty PAC comes on the heels of a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll that found Mr. Paul, Kentucky Republican, has lost some ground since mid-June among the 2016 candidates and that Mr. Bush continues to run near the front of the pack with Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin and...

Jeb Bush says that the prospective confirmation of attorney general nominee Loretta Lynch “sounds to me like a victory” because “getting rid of” current Attorney General Eric Holder has “gotta be a win.” The former governor of Florida said last week that President Barack Obama deserves the opportunity to have the team he wants. He also took shots at Holder then, saying that Republicans should consider that the longer they take to confirm Lynch, the longer he will be in office. “I said that they should have a vote,” Bush told radio show host Michael Medved in an interview Tuesday....

In a Wall Street Journal op-ed, co-author and former Florida Governor Jeb Bush argued that it was important to send the majority of the 50,000 unaccompanied minors back home. “Except for those deserving few who may demonstrate true cause for asylum or protection from sex trafficking, these children must be returned to their homes in Central America,” he wrote in the op-ed, which was co-authored by Clint Bolick. Bush argued that the 2008 anti-trafficking law - allowing children to stay in the country - should be changed to help stop the flow of children crossing the border, who then claim...

Former Florida governor Jeb Bush is urging Congress not to use the current crisis on the southwestern border as an "excuse" for not passing comprehensive immigration reform. Bush and Clint Bolick, co-authors of a 2013 book on immigration, write in a Wall Street Journal op-ed published Wednesday evening that surge of Central American children crossing the border illegally should not be a reason for House Republicans to refuse to pass immigration reform.

Bush trails by 13 points. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton holds a wide lead over former Florida Governor Jeb Bush in Iowa, according to a hypothetical 2016 Presidential poll conducted by Quinnipiac University. Clinton holds 49 percent while Bush trails with 36 percent. Clinton leads all potential 2016 contenders, but holds the greatest margin over Bush. She leads 47-41 percent over Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.), 46-40 percent over Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.)

As it sought to recruit well-heeled investors, an untested and unprofitable Miami company named InnoVida brought aboard a trusted Florida figure in 2007: Jeb Bush, the former governor and the brother of a sitting president. For potential stockholders, the imprimatur of Mr. Bush, who joined InnoVida as a paid consultant and a member of the board of directors, conferred credibility on the young start-up. That credibility did not last long. It turned out that the leaders of InnoVida, a manufacturer of inexpensive building materials, had faked documents, lied about the health of the business and misappropriated $40 million in company...

A mention of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R), a potential 2016 presidential contender, brought boos from a conservative crowd in New Hampshire on Saturday. Speaking at the New Hampshire Freedom Summit, a gathering of conservative activists and figures organized by Americans for Prosperity and Citizens United, billionaire Donald Trump said Bush’s recent comments on immigrants coming to the U.S. as an “act of love” were “out there.”

Jeb Bush gets the question at just about every public appearance these days: Will you run for president? The former Florida governor gives a well-worn answer: "I can honestly tell you that I don't know what I'm going to do." It's an answer that won't satisfy the GOP faithful for much longer. With New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie facing multiple investigations in a political retribution probe, many Republicans see Bush as a potent alternative: a two-term GOP governor who thrived in the nation's largest swing-voting state and could make the party more inclusive. Friends and advisers say he is seriously...

George P. Bush said on Tuesday that “it’s never too late” for Mitt Romney to take a leadership role in the immigration debate, but he acknowledged Republicans were outflanked by President Obama’s election-year decision to allow hundreds of illegal immigrants to remain in the country without fear of deportation. “Governor Romney had an opportunity to get in front of the president on the issue,” said Mr. Bush, 36, the son of former Gov. Jeb Bush of Florida. “But the president clearly has taken the initiative on it.” Mr. Bush, who is urging younger voters to increase their participation in the...

The slam against George P. Bush and his run for the GOP Texas land commissioner nomination is that he is campaigning on his dynastic name and harbors hopes for higher office. To which the easy responses are: It's a fine political pedigree in Texas, if not always on the national stage, and he has a record of personal accomplishments in business and the military in any case. Also, if ambition were a deal-killer, the state would have no elected officials. And there's this: Bush, 37, offers hope for a bridge to more thoughtful, inclusive politics as the state's demographic profile...

A prominent figure in the Republican party and one to watch as 2016 approaches, Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush Monday night offered a fiscal and social blueprint for the conservative movement, pushing for economic freedom and a repeal of Obamacare. Speaking before a crowd of who's-who in the Republican Party, Bush decried Washington's current fiscal path as bogged down with unnecessary bureaucratic regulations and laden with policies that benefit the rich while disenfranchising the working-class. "Our current policy awards portfolio Americans at the expense of pay check America while enabling the greatest sustained deficits in American history," -snip- "Much of...

Former president George W. Bush, who enjoyed healthy support among Latinos during his time in office, has broken a virtual five-year silence in national politics by calling on fellow Republicans to embrace immigration reform at a time when conservatives are rebelling against the idea. The question is: Is anyone listening? -snip- Rep. Raúl R. Labrador (R-Idaho), who last month dropped out of bipartisan talks to develop a comprehensive House immigration bill, said Bush’s views would have little impact. “Anybody has to take an ex-president’s word seriously, but he’s just another voice on this issue. He’s not going to be the...

DALLAS (AP) — Making a rare return to the political arena, former President George W. Bush urged Congress on Wednesday to reach a "positive resolution" on immigration reform, an issue that eluded him during his presidency and now confronts fellow Republicans in the aftermath of a 2012 election drubbing. In brief remarks at a naturalization ceremony at his presidential library in Dallas, Bush avoided wading into the merits of specific legislation pending in Congress, but said it was important for lawmakers to recognize the benefits of immigration to the nation's future. While he didn't directly endorse a Senate-approved plan his...

Former President George W. Bush wants Republicans to consider immigration on its own merits, not just as a party saving piece of legislation, he said during an interview on ABC's This Week. "Sometimes, it takes time for some of these complex issues to evolve. And it looks like immigration, you know, has a chance to pass," Bush said.

President George W. Bush cautioned against criticizing gay couples, saying in an interview on “This Week” that you shouldn’t criticize others “until you’ve examined your own heart.” Bush had waded into the revitalized same-sex marriage debate last week - if only barely - in a comment to a reporter in Zambia, who asked whether gay marriage conflicts with Christian values. “I shouldn’t be taking a speck out of someone else’s eye when I have a log in my own,” Bush said last week. In an interview in Tanzania with ABC News Chief White House Correspondent Jonathan Karl, the former president...
