Sen. John McCain faces questions in a defamation lawsuit about leaks leading to publication of the now-infamous dossier that alleged Donald Trump’s campaign had connections to Russian operatives, McClatchy has learned. The dossier compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele and his London firm, Orbis Business Intelligence Ltd., amounted to a collection of uncorroborated reports of collusion gathered as political research for sale to Trump’s opponents. It proved explosive when published by online news site BuzzFeed on Jan. 10.

Several military officials were reportedly caught off guard by a White House statement Monday night that indicated Syria was engaged in "potential preparations" for a new chemical attack, The New York Times reported.... ...The reported lack of communication between military channels also appeared to be corroborated by a BuzzFeed News report that cited five defense officials who said they did not know of the details regarding a potential chemical attack, and were not aware of the White House's plans to release a statement. Shortly after the White House statement was released, Nikki Haley, the US ambassador to the United Nations,...

Well, this tweet from BuzzFeed's media reporter isn't disconcerting at all: Steven Perlberg ✔ @perlberg Well then. Bed bugs detected at BuzzFeed NYC HQ. Fumigation happening tomorrow, employees asked to WFH "out of abundance of caution" 12:07 AM - 22 Jun 2017 Bedbugs, while a disturbingly common problem in New York, are still the stuff of urban nightmares. Hopefully the issue is exterminated swiftly. My thoughts will be with all BuzzFeed—or BugzFeed (I'm so sorry)—staff who may or may not be carrying the insects. Good luck, but please stay away from my apartment. CGW

Buzzfeed News’ activist campaign to intimidate Sean Hannity’s sponsors into dropping advertising on his show is sparking a counter-boycott of the companies that are dropping out. Buzzfeed News “reporter” Mary Georgantopoulos has announced that she is reaching out to Hannity’s advertisers in response to Hannity asking questions about murdered DNC staffer Seth Rich’s reported involvement in the Wikileaks release of DNC emails in 2016. Buzzfeed “reporter” Brianna Sacks is assisting in the effort. Julian Assange has strongly suggested that Rich was the Wikileaks source, which Assange friend Kim Dotcom stated outright. Fox News reported that a federal investigator with knowledge...

Lawyers for a Russian tech mogul suing online news site BuzzFeed for defamation will seek within the next two weeks to take sworn testimony from its editor and several reporters. The suit stems from BuzzFeed’s decision to become the first news operation to post online a former British spy’s dossier about Russia’s alleged scheme to help Donald Trump win the presidency last fall. A federal judge in Miami on Monday rejected BuzzFeed’s bid to move the case to New York. In a phone interview Tuesday, attorney Val Gurvits, representing a Russian web hosting company and its owner who were named...

BuzzFeed, the outlet behind the infamous and absurd “Golden Showers” dossier, has more than a bit of disdain for President Donald Trump — as proven through these leaked conversations from their private workplace chat. In screenshots exclusively provided to Big League Politics by former BuzzFeed employee Tim “Treadstone” Gionet, better known as Baked Alaska, the website’s Director of Social Media Maycie Thornton wishes for Trump’s assassination as co-workers laughed and cheered her on. “Maybe someone will assassinate him,” said Thornton. Michael D. Cohen, President Trump’s personal attorney, says he has instructed his own attorney to investigate legal action against BuzzFeed, which posted an opposition research “dossier” that accused Mr. Cohen without proof of a conspiracy with Russian agents. Mr. Cohen told The Washington Times that he also is considering a lawsuit against former British spy Christopher Steele, who wrote the gossipy 35-page dossier that the liberal news website posted on Jan. 10. Mr. Steele was paid by a Hillary Clinton supporter, via the Democratic Party-linked firm Fusion GPS, to gather dirt on candidate Trump last summer and fall. GPS circulated...

The FBI has been bad about processing FoIA requests for years now. It’s about time somebody did it, even if it’s the goofy cat-video website Buzzfeed. I’m talking about suing the Federal Bureau of Investigation which is apparently violating federal law by failing to process Freedom of Information Act (FoIA) requests in a timely manner. In this case Buzzfeed wants the FBI file for the late Andrew Breitbart and hasn’t been getting it.

Buzzfeed is being sued for defamation regarding Russian interference in U.S. election. Aleksei Gubarev, a Cyprus-based businessman, is suing the tacky “news” and media outlet Buzzfeed for defamation in regards to their publishing of “an unproven dossier on President Donald Trump’s purported activities involving Russia,” along with allegations of Russian interference in the recent U.S. election. Gubarev alleges that his companies, as well as himself, were linked without validity in the dossier to the Russian hacking of Democratic Party figures. The damages Gubarev is seeking from Buzzfeed and Ben Smith, their top editor, is currently unspecified.

Thursday's New York Times has a report on how the highly suspicious dossier alleging that Donald Trump was compromised by Russian intelligence agents came into existence. Among the other interesting revelations was that the dubious opposition research report was put together by the research firm Fusion GPS: The story began in September 2015, when a wealthy Republican donor who strongly opposed Mr. Trump put up the money to hire a Washington research firm run by former journalists, Fusion GPS, to compile a dossier about the real estate magnate's past scandals and weaknesses, according to a person familiar with the effort....

You can be a guy with a vagina that bleeds for a week every month. There’s nothing wrong with you. You are beautiful. We asked the BuzzFeed Community to tell us about their periods, and we heard from a lot of trans and nonbinary people who want you to know they menstruate too. 1. “But you’re a guy…guys don’t get periods?” Whenever my period comes, all my friends will hear about it. Buzzfeed was sued by the Russia-tied tech firm named in the dossier that contained unsubstantiated allegations against President Trump for including “libelous, unverified” information about the company, McClatchy reported Friday, citing the lawsuits. The defamation suits were brought by XBT Holdings. Company lawyers reportedly filed complaints against BuzzFeed and its editor Ben Smith. A former British spy and his company were also named in complaints. The company seeks an “undetermined compensation for the damages.”

A Russian-tied tech firm named in a controversial dossier containing uncorroborated allegations about President Donald Trump and the hacking of Democratic National Committee email accounts announced late Friday that it has filed defamation suits against the online news site BuzzFeed, its editor in chief and a former British intelligence agent. The lawsuits were brought by XBT Holdings, a Cyprus-based company owned by Russian tech magnate Aleksej Gubarev. RUSH: Let’s start here with the fake news, because there’s a lot of it out there today. I had a story, I was talking to the vice president yesterday on the program, and I told him that I had a list of stories, 30 fake news stories, 30 out-and-out lies in just the last five days, and that was yesterday. And, of course, we add more to them today. And it’s always a bit of a fun challenge to determine where to start with the fake news on each and every day. Ben Smith, editor in chief of the website Buzzfeed, called Monday for news organizations to adopt "new rules" in order to properly cover the Trump administration, and said that may even require sometimes publishing "unverified information." In an op-ed published Monday, Smith said President Trump and his team frequently push falsehoods and aren't sufficiently transparent, and said a new type of journalism is needed to foster "trust" with the public. "[W]e need to develop new rules that adhere to the core values of honesty and respect for our audience," he wrote in the New York Times. "That means debunking falsehoods,...

At the moment, media outlets want nothing to do with BuzzFeed, the “news” website that published unverified, “fake” allegations against Donald Trump. The allegations are so flimsy that even Trump’s political opponents never used them. What few know is that BuzzFeed founder Jonah Peretti has a history of knowingly spreading false information. He has used fraudulent websites and email accounts to pretend to be people he wished to defame. I was one of his victims.

President-elect Donald Trump fired off a flurry of tweets early Friday morning, ripping everyone from “sleaze bag political operatives” to Hillary Clinton’s former campaign staffers. Among other things, Trump dismissed a salacious, unverified dossier published by BuzzFeed earlier this week as “phony allegations.” The memo contains details the U.S. intelligence community has not been able to verify, was reportedly drafted by a former British spy, Christopher Steele, on behalf of first Republicans who opposed Trump as their nominee and then Democratic rivals as Trump transitioned from the primaries to the general election. U.S. intelligence services reportedly informed Trump about the...

Donald Trump once enjoyed a fairly friendly relationship with the mainstream media. Then he ran for president. As a Republican. On an "America First" platform. The relationship soured quickly. As bad as Candidate Trump’s relationship with media was, President-elect Trump’s relationship with media is worse. It appears that some media organizations are willing to risk everything in an effort to bring him down. While organizations such as the New York Times and the Washington Post maintained at least a semblance of credibility by staying away from the story about the less-than-credible "dossier" on Trump, others — CNN and BuzzFeed in particular...
