I was born in Landstuhl, Germany U.S. Army Hospital, 1952. I have a German birth certificate which has been a pain in my butt my whole life, having to prove I’m a U.S. citizen on many occasions. My father was Army, my brother was Army, my daughter was Army, but I’m the black sheep of the family for choosing Air Force.
It’s true that Georgia has a small income tax, but for retirees, IRA distributions, pensions and Social Security are not taxed. I think at the moment, retirees would have to make over 65K in earned income before taxes would kick in.
My mother, who lives in “no income tax” Tennessee pays over $1000 a year because she has investments in securities. If she didn’t make a penny from her investments, she would still pay just because she owns them.
When I moved from Florida back home to Georgia, I kept getting political flyers from Florida. I had to write a letter and send it to my former county election board to have my name removed. It’s not automatic. I’m probably still registered in 3 other states.
