The wife and I Purchased an electric car about a month ago. I'm as far as a tree hugger as you can get but we needed a vehicle. Our son will be starting collage soon so a another vehicle was needed. Her total commute is close to 6 miles, the car had 2,560 miles when we bought it. it's a 2012, fairly well equipped with air, power windows, mirrors, power locks, heated seats, etc. Since the range is only an estimated 62 miles it works for us.My Car is not restricted on distance since it's petroleum powered so it should...

An economic recovery bill authored by Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D.-Conn.) seeks to empower struggling families by directing the federal government to distribute free diapers through day care centers. The Diaper Investment and Aid to Promote Economic Recovery Act (DIAPER Act) would “relieve some of the stress on families facing hardship in this economy” by providing this direct service, DeLauro said in a letter to congressional colleagues urging them to co-sponsor her bill. Without diapers, children are not allowed to attend day care, said DeLauro, who described those in need as a “lost generation of Americans.” “In fact, over one in...

Leah Ward's American flag stood at the end of her driveway in Colebook, a tribute to her husband, a Marine serving in Iraq. This week, someone burned it, the second act of vandalism involving the flag since June. Ward said it's a painful reminder that not everyone supports the troops. She's offering a $650 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person or people responsible. Ward, of 113A Beech Hill Road, woke up Monday morning to find the flag at the end of her driveway destroyed by fire. All that remained was a smoldering wooden flagpole and a...

Whose woods these are I think I know. His house is in the village, though; He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow. My little horse must think it queer To stop without a farmhouse near Between the woods and frozen lake The darkest evening of the year. He gives his harness bells a shake To ask if there is some mistake. The only other sound's the sweep Of easy wind and downy flake. The woods are lovely, dark, and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I...

His shirt stained with blood from stab wounds inflicted on him by a man whose car he mistook for his own, Jeffrey Bradley nodded his head toward his girlfriend but said nothing when he faced Judge Cara Eschuk on Tuesday in Bantam Superior Court. Bradley's bond was reduced from $50,000 to $1,000, an amount he posted after pledging not to break any more laws or drink. Torrington police are still unraveling the events that prompted Bradley to spar with 72-year-old Edward Kittle Jr., of Torrington, in the parking lot of the Burger King on Torrington's East Main Street on Monday...

TORRINGTON — A police officer flirted and had sex with female dispatchers on duty for four months, and he and the two dispatchers involved, with whom he had separate affairs, used a city messaging system to exchange sexual suggestions and arrange their encounters. Nearly 700 pages of messages and internal reports revealed that Donovan had sex with the dispatchers in the women's locker room at the Torrington Police Department while on duty. He and Goodfield, who began having sex in February or March, arranged for trysts in the parking lot of Torrington Middle School and the Torrington Industrial Park. Donovan...

I'll keep it short, I was laid off last month.Insurance, mortgage payments etc. will be strapping the finances very soon. I went for an interview and recently a second. I really need this job, it has good benefits including overtime.Working in the manufacturing sector leaves my opportunities very limited here in the northeast. The wife is starting to freak since we can't afford the Cobra payments and we won't have any insurance. A wish for some luck (or prayers, is that okay?) would be appreciated. Thanks to my friends here on FR in advance.

A certain New York Yankee slugger should beware: A 13-year-old taking a tour of Fenway Park yesterday was attacked by a red-tailed hawk that swooped down from its nest, drawing blood from the girl's scalp. Her name: Alexa Rodriguez. "She's fine, a little shaken but OK," said Vince Jennetta, a teacher who chaperoned Rodriguez's trip from Memorial Boulevard Middle School in Bristol, Conn. The eighth-grader was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and was treated for the small scratch on her scalp.

I recived an email from John McCain's fundraisers today, here is the message and response from me. Dear Friend, Last night, we did it. We won the Republican nomination for President. It was a long, up and down journey, but we worked hard, spoke honestly to the American people, and our steadfast determination has paid off. As we come to the end of our party's primary contest, we begin what will certainly be a spirited and hard-fought campaign against the Democratic nominee. In November, Americans will have a clear choice to make. And I intend to fight as hard as...

When the dust settles, the uproar over Barack Obama’s religious beliefs will have taught us little about the candidate and his loyalties that we don’t already know. If we look closely, however, we can learn a great deal about American Jews and their anxieties. More pointedly, we can penetrate the mystery of the power of the so-called Jewish lobby.Snip Reports of Obama’s supposed Muslim leanings began surfacing a full year ago, not in anonymous e-mail blasts but in signed articles published openly on conservative Web sites. One of the first appeared on FreeRepublic.com, an arch-conservative site based in central California....

MEDIA ADVISORY, Jan. 14 /Christian Newswire/ -- Senator Fred Thompson is far and away the best conservative candidate to represent those who live in Jesusland, according to David Jeffers, author of Understanding Evangelicals: A Guide to Jesusland. "Evangelicals are looking for a candidate who is strongly pro-life, is for traditional families, and who is an actual Reagan Conservative." Jeffers explains, "Every GOP candidate is espousing Reagan-like characteristics, but only Thompson has the record to back it up." Jeffers claims that many in Jesusland are enamored with Governor Mike Huckabee because of his Southern Baptist roots and strong social conservative values....
