“There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is its power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anybody? But just pass the kinds of laws that can neither be observed, nor enforced, nor objectively interpreted - and you create a nation of law-breakers - and then you cash in on guilt.” -— Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged, p. 406, 1957

Not to be hyper technical, but they ALL know better. However, personal reasons are more important than preserving the republic. The Democrats do it because they think their socialist world makes them even more important and powerful. The Republicans are just weenies that are afraid to do anything that might cause bad press, which could hurt their chances for reelection.
  • This Flowchart Could Help You Decide Whether To Buy Or Rent A Home

This chart ignores factors like whether home prices and/or interest rates are going up or down. Historically, buying was better because buyers could participate in appreciation while renters paid ever-increasing rents. Now I wonder whether I’ll be able to break even after improvements and paying real estate agent’s commission.

IMHO - The question about “have you lived in this area before” suggests that you are more likely to want to move away if you answer “yes”; thus, you should rent. Similar to the first question in its logic.

I don't think it's as obvious as you think it is. I don't have time to do all the legal research to know whether Bundy or BLM is correct. But, I feel certain, Bundy and the rest were doing just fine before the feds came in with an idea to regulate their actions. See this 1967 article from the “Montana Law Review” and see if you can easily conclude that the fed has the right to confiscate Bundy’s herd: http://scholarship.law.umt.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=2167&context=mlr

I just heard about this when I looked on Greg Brannon's website to see what events he would be attending. The weather is supposed to be great. Should be a great time with a few hundred fellow constitutional conservatives. Looks like a good program too.

The NC legislative session ends this Friday and GRNC is putting on a full court press to get an important pro-gun bill passed while there is still momentum. The bill passed both houses and is stalled in conference on one issue.

Republican-led NC General Assembly is now in a conference to reconcile NC House and NC Senate versions of a bill to restore some gun rights to our citizens. Whiners all over the state are coming out in droves to complain about various legislative initiatives (tax reform, voter ID, abortion restrictions, gun rights, etc.) and finding a sympathetic press. It's an exciting time as the tides have turned after decades of Democrat control in NC.

How can the press not cover this press conference? Did a Google News search this morning. 19 hits. World Net Daily, Fox News, Washington Times, some local Fox affiliates. NOTHING from mainstream media. Wash Time piece is good - http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/may/9/seals-families-hit-2011-afghan-mission/?page=all

Everyone should call their local news outlet and ask them to cover this story. People should be hearing about this.

  • Senate passes internet sales tax bill amid opposition from conservatives

You are correct. The current prohibition on out-of-state collection of sales tax on internet sales is a subsidy to online sellers. The current system makes me feel guilty when I buy items online because I know I am making a personal economic decision to save money (free 2-day shipping and no sales tax - Amazon Prime) at the expense of my neighbors. I also feel guilty annually when I don't remit the sales because I know nobody else is doing it. Unfortunately, when I drive through my NC hometown, I see way too many closed-up store fronts of retailers that had been fixtures for decades. I know there are more reasons than tax-free internet purchases causing so many business closures, but if the choice were price neutral, I know many would rather shop AND BUY at their local business. Now, because Amazon and others have a 6.75% head start, too many shop local and go home to complete their purchase on the internet.

This bill will result in me PAYING more sales tax, but I won't OWE more sales tax as a result. If NC can maintain its current conservative majority, I can hope they will reduce rates (income tax and sales tax) for the new revenue they receive if this bill becomes the law of the land.

I originally did the same thing - joined the NRA without owning a gun or ever shooting a gun (except a 22 rifle in a ROTC class in college). Then, because I thought it a civic duty, I bought an AR-15 shortly after the assault weapons ban expired in 2004. I owned that gun for about 4 years with no intention of ever shooting it unless I needed to. After having recurring dreams of needing to defend myself but not knowing how to use my gun, I decided to learn. Since then, I have developed a love for going to the range. I still have my AR-15 and have added 3 handguns. I also have a concealed carry permit. I carry a little S&W 380 in my pocket everywhere I go, except for the several killing fields established by law in NC. Unlike the route I took, I recommend that you sign up for a class on how to use a gun, but do it before you buy one. Most ranges have rentals that you can use until you decide what you want to buy.

Has anyone (in the modern era) tried to organize an armed demonstration of both our first amendment right to peaceably assemble and our second amendment right to bear arms? What would it be like if 100,000 (or more) armed citizens gathered in VA and marched across the bridges into DC to protest the intrusions on our rights, including a protest on the intrusion into our right to form a militia against a tyrannical government?

“It is time to start thinking logically and not emotionally. I fear we lose elections because people refuse to think logically.”

Absolutely correct. We need to revolt against the Republican Party. “Conservative” should mean “conserve the constitution.” We need to reshape the platform to focus on reigning in the federal government to its constitutional powers. Magic Fingers has a good point about eliminating some of the anti-depravity issues from the platform. I am a born-again Christian, but I will happily vote for any candidate that will defend the Constitution against all foreign and domestic enemies. The Democrats toss out these wedge issues on abortion, homosexuality, etc., to drive people away from Republicans. Be real - How much power does the President have to determine whether an anti-abortion bill has an exception for rape or incest? If the legislators legislated and the judges adjudicated and the president administrated based upon the Enumerated Powers, our federal tax burden would drop below our state taxes

We need to focus on fixing the GOP. After re-electing Obama, can't the majority of Republicans be convinced that being Democrat-lite and playing on their playground do not work. While the Democrats can't be honest about what they stand for and where they want to take the country, we can be because our position is morally and constitutionally sound. Unfortunately, it is difficult to explain why Robinhood was wrong, but it is about time we forced the GOP to try to articulate why it is immoral and unconstitutional for the federal government to be Robinhood.

The contribution to which you refer is a personal contribution from Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and his wife. It is not a contribution by Amazon, a public company. Every company will have officers or employees that are libs. I can't stop doing business with every company that does. From looking at the Amazon's website, they seem to be on the sidelines and not making political statements. I feel comfortable that I am not a hypocrite for keeping my Amazon Prime Membership and playing on my Kindle Fire.

"Until I read the above I was sympathetic to those who decided to stay away. Now, I think it is a witch-hunt, that Target is the victim of unfair PR, and that the Salvation Army itself is being very heavy-handed in laying the blame solely at the doorstep of Target."

I reacted the same way when I first read the story. Then I realized that, nevertheless, Target has folded to the demands of the politically correct and Christians should make a real statement in support of the Salvation Army. As Christians shrink to calls of "Happy Holidays," I applaud the Salvation for standing up and being heavy handed.

"Why does he say he is 52+?"

He says he has been married for 52+ years - not that he is 52 years old. It doesn't appear that Mr. Esseff has obscured anything. A little research shows the following, all of which is consistent with his ad:

GEORGE J ESSEFF SR YEAR OF BIRTH: 1929 1965-84 active as president of Cosmos Minerals Corp, sold shares successfully. 1975-present active with affiliate. 1975-present active here (i.e., owner of Stellar Resources Inc).
