  • Iconic stone arch collapses in southern Utah park (Breaking News, Bush's Fault)

Yes, it is a loss, but the writer of the article seems to want to make it worse than it was. I used to live in Moab and often hiked up into Arches NP to sit in awe of the beauty of these magnificent arches. But I have to point out (yet another!) important error in the AP article made by that stupid and sloppy reporter. In the article it erroneously mentions that another, longer and even more impressive arch, namely Landscape Arch, had collapsed in 1991. That is Totally WRONG!

Landscape Arch is STILL standing and is considered to be the longest natural arch in the world, with a measured span of 290.1 feet(88.4 m). Since 1991, however three slabs of sandstone measuring 30, 47, and 70 feet (9.1,14,and21m long) have fallen from the thinnest section of Landscape Arch, prompting the Park Service to close the trail that once passed beneath it.

So, Landscape Arch still stands, despite what the MSM tries to say.

I have heard repeatedly that one foolproof way to prevent leaving your child in the back seat is to put your purse or briefcase (something that you will need) in the backseat. That way, even if you do forget it, you will hopefully quickly realize you left something even more important in the car.

Did anyone else wonder what Obama was talking about when he referred to insurgents in the "Fatah" region of Pakistan? Fatah is a Palestinian political/terrorist organization in so-called Palestine. I was hoping Morris would answer O'Reilly's question about Obama's mistakes tonight by saying "Never heard of Pakistan's 'Fatah' region". Anyone else catch that?

GeraldD, one of the BostonGlobe readers wrote in and made some very worthwhile observations about Obama's decision to keep Hillary away from the protest:

Why Hillary Declined Her Invitation To Protest Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s visit.
When Hillary, & Obama realized that Florida was not going to vote Democratic, they made a decision to pull the plug on the Jewish vote there and instead, go after the Muslim vote in Michigan hoping to hold that state. Recent polls have shown Michigan to be in a virtual tie between Obama and McCain, with one poll actually showing McCain up by 1%. The Muslim vote there could swing the entire state. If Obama loses Michigan, he loses the entire election. Polls in Florida have consistently show McCain leading Obama by 4 to 8 points. Partisan political gamesmanship at the expense of not only the Jewish vote, but the Nation as a whole. Shameful

    Financier Norman Hsu's Sordid Past

ABC7 Exclusive Interview With Former Hsu Associate
    By Vic Lee
SAN FRANCISCO, Sep 7, 2007 (KGO) - Authorities are awaiting word on when fugitive financier Norman Hsu will be brought back to the Bay Area.

Hsu is the man who skipped out on two million dollars bail in San Mateo County Wednesday, only to be rearrested last night in Colorado, where he's now in the hospital.

He's been on the run for 12 years.

Hsu rubbed shoulders with the powerful and notorious as well.

Raymond Kwok Chow, alias "Shrimp Boy," is one of Hsu's known associates.

He was notorious gangster in Chinatown in the early 1990's, at roughly the same time when state prosecutors say Norman Hsu started his ponzi scheme with his latex gloves business.

Chow says he is now clean, and spoke with us about his relationship with Norman Hsu.

Chow dressed brazenly in white at the funeral of Allen Leung, the Chinatown business leader shot to death last year.

Chow was once one of the most feared gangsters in Chinatown.

"I grow up in crime. I grow up in the city and involved with the most crime," said Chow.

In the 1980's and early 1990's, San Francisco's Chinatown was the battleground of a bloody war between powerful gangs.

Chow's gang "Wo Hop To" finally won.

This was when Chow says he met Norman Hsu. He says Hsu dabbled in clothing, import and export and real estate. He adds Hsu was also in trouble.

"I guess he into a lot of financial problem back then and I loaned him some money," said Chow. "And I help him with my knowledge and with my strength. That's all there is."

In the early hours of August 28, 1990, Foster City Police stopped a car for making an illegal turn.

In the back seat, they found a frightened Norman Hsu. In the front were Raymond Chow and two associates.

Hsu told police he had been kidnapped.

"There was a 12 hour ordeal where there was discussions, arguments. Mr. Hsu claims he was assaulted several times and threatened," said Capt. Matt Martell, Foster City Police Department.

Hsu told police he had business dealings with Chow and there was a dispute over money.

"And what that dollar amount was, different dollar amounts ranged between $300,000 and a $1 million worth of claims," said Capt. Martell.

Chow says Hsu lied, and claims it was Hsu who called him for help that night because he owed people money.

"I met him because he was in trouble, and at that time, I helping him out a lot," said Chow. "The way he told me, I mean, he being extortion, he being a lot of people tried to hurt him.

Chow and the others were arrested, but charges were later dropped when Hsu became uncooperative with prosecutors.

Now Hsu faces prison time for grand theft. Chow spent most of the recent past in prison, but he says he's changed.

"Today, Raymond, myself, I upfront to face up to all the past I have done, and to try to correct my life," said Chow.

Chow is now the chairman of the Chinese Freemasons, the position Allen Leung held before he was killed.

Chow says he's hurt that police, and even many of his fellow Chinese, believe he had something to do with Leong's murder.

We asked him for the record if he had any involvement with Mr. Leong's death.

"Oh. Mr. Leong? No," said Chow.

Allen Leong's murder is still unsolved. Police have never identified a suspect.

Chow says that alleged kidnap incident in 1990 was the last time he saw Norman Hsu.

Soon after, Hsu was and arrested and charged with grand theft.

In case you're wondering, Chow says his grandmother gave him the nickname "Shrimp Boy."

    Norman Hsu Hospitalized After Fall

Norman Hsu is listed in fair condition tonight at Saint Mary's hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado.

He was taken by ambulance there after falling ill on an Amtrak train bound for Denver.

ABC7 has learned that while on board, Hsu apparently fell down and in the words of a paramedic "became delirious."

Hospital officials contacted authorities, who arrested Hsu last night.

"When he is fit to leave the hospital, to be released from the hospital, he will be transported to a federal magistrate in Grand Junction. That magistrate will give him his initial appearance and advise him that he has federal UFAP charges against him. He will be ordered then transported to the northern district of California," said FBI spokesman Joseph Schadler.

It's not clear when Hsu will be transported back to San Mateo County, where he jumped bail on Wednesday.

He surrendered a week ago today after skipping out on his sentencing for grand theft charges in 1991.

Hsu surfaced in recent years as a top donor to Democratic candidates like Senator Hillary Clinton.

Perhaps they got their cue to proceed with jihad from Slick Willie when he went to Bosnia and dedicated a monument to AL QAEDA!

Ok, I fully realize that this website is very pro-Serb and thus not at all objective. But pictures DO NOT lie. In 2003, Clinton was in Bosnia and did dedicate a monument written in Arabic that was dedicated to alQaeda fighters in Bosnia! Also note, neither Serbs, Bosnians nor Albanians ever use arabic script. This was clearly dedicated to foreign ie alQaeda fighters.

Somebody recently forwarded this amusing dialog from a Rolling Stone (!) article on trutherism:

BUSH: So, what’s the plan again?

CHENEY: Well, we need to invade Iraq and Afghanistan. So what we’ve decided to do is crash a whole bunch of remote-controlled planes into Wall Street and the Pentagon, say they’re real hijacked commercial planes, and blame it on the towelheads; then we’ll just blow up the buildings ourselves to make sure they actually fall down.

RUMSFELD: Right! And we’ll make sure that some of the hijackers are agents of Saddam Hussein! That way we’ll have no problem getting the public to buy the invasion.

    CHENEY: No, Dick, we won’t.

    RUMSFELD: We won’t?

CHENEY: No, that’s too obvious. We’ll make the hijackers Al Qaeda and then just imply a connection to Iraq.

RUMSFELD: But if we’re just making up the whole thing, why not just put Saddam’s fingerprints on the attack?

CHENEY: (sighing) It just has to be this way, Dick. Ups the ante, as it were. This way, we’re not insulated if things go wrong in Iraq. Gives us incentive to get the invasion right the first time around.

BUSH: I’m a total idiot who can barely read, so I’ll buy that. But I’ve got a question. Why do we need to crash planes into the Towers at all? Since everyone knows terrorists already tried to blow up that building complex from the ground up once, why don’t we just blow it up like we plan to anyway, and blame the bombs on the terrorists?

RUMSFELD: Mr. President, you don’t understand. It’s much better to sneak into the buildings ourselves in the days before the attacks, plant the bombs and then make it look like it was exploding planes that brought the buildings down. That way, we involve more people in the plot, stand a much greater chance of being exposed and needlessly complicate everything!

CHENEY: Of course, just toppling the Twin Towers will never be enough. No one would give us the war mandate we need if we just blow up the Towers. Clearly, we also need to shoot a missile at a small corner of the Pentagon to create a mightily underpublicized additional symbol of international terrorism — and then, obviously, we need to fake a plane crash in the middle of fucking nowhere in rural Pennsylvania.

RUMSFELD: Yeah, it goes without saying that the level of public outrage will not be sufficient without that crash in the middle of fucking nowhere.

CHENEY: And the Pentagon crash — we’ll have to do it in broad daylight and say it was a plane, even though it’ll really be a cruise missile.

BUSH: Wait, why do we have to use a missile?

CHENEY: Because it’s much easier to shoot a missile and say it was a plane. It’s not easy to steer a real passenger plane into the Pentagon. Planes are hard to come by.

BUSH: But aren’t we using two planes for the Twin Towers?

CHENEY: Mr. President, you’re missing the point. With the Pentagon, we use a missile, and say it was a plane.

BUSH: Right, but I’m saying, why don’t we just use a plane and say it was a plane? We’ll be doing that with the Twin Towers, right?

CHENEY: Right, but in this case, we use a missile. (Throws hands up in frustration) Don, can you help me out here?

RUMSFELD: Mr. President, in Washington, we use a missile because it’s sneakier that way. Using an actual plane would be too obvious, even though we’ll be doing just that in New York.

    BUSH: Oh, OK.

RUMSFELD: The other good thing about saying that it was a passenger jet is that that way, we have to invent a few hundred fictional victims and account for a nonexistent missing crew and plane. It’s always better when you leave more cover story to invent, more legwork to do and more possible holes to investigate. Doubt, legwork and possible exposure — you can’t pull off any good conspiracy without them.

BUSH: You guys are brilliant! Because if there’s one thing about Americans — they won’t let a president go to war without a damn good reason. How could we ever get the media, the corporate world and our military to endorse an invasion of a secular Iraqi state unless we faked an attack against New York at the hands of a bunch of Saudi religious radicals? Why, they’d never buy it. Look at how hard it was to get us into Vietnam, Iraq the last time, Kosovo?

    CHENEY: Like pulling teeth!

RUMSFELD: Well, I’m sold on the idea. Let’s call the Joint Chiefs, the FAA, the New York and Washington, D.C., fire departments, Rudy Giuliani, all three networks, the families of a thousand fictional airline victims, MI5, the FBI, FEMA, the NYPD, Larry Eagleburger, Osama bin Laden, Noam Chomsky and the fifty thousand other people we’ll need to pull this off. There isn’t a moment to lose!

BUSH: Don’t forget to call all of those Wall Street hotshots who donated $100 million to our last campaign. They’ll be thrilled to know that we’ll be targeting them for execution as part of our thousand-tentacled modern-day bonehead Reichstag scheme! After all, if we’re going to make martyrs — why not make them out of our campaign paymasters? Shit, didn’t the Merrill Lynch guys say they needed a refurbishing in their New York offices?

RUMSFELD: Oh, they’ll get a refurbishing, all right. Just in time for the “Big Wedding”!

    ALL THREE: (cackling) Mwah-hah-hah!

Ok, I just got back from doing some errands and lo and behold, Glenn Beck is back on the schedule, along with the detailed info for the program

Glenn Beck ch 57 HN 4-5pm (PDT)
"Exposed: Climate of Fear" (2007) Glenn Beck examines global warming and what he sees as the media hype about it. Included: a critical overview of the Al Gore documentary "An Inconvient Truth; a look back at the "global cooling" fear of the 1970s (Talk)

OK, So I guess we can all put down our pitchforks and firebrands and go back to our villages. Sorry to get everyone so riled up. Hopefully it was just a delay in Comcast getting the info served up to their system and not some diabolical plot by the "algoristas".

Can you not record on their DVR in manual mode, by time and channel? That is weird. Glad I kept my TiVO.

Yes, I suppose one could, but the few times I have tried (usually on C-SPAN weekends, for which Comcast doesn't always have proper full listings) have been more unsuccessful than not.

Anyway, I emailed NewsBusters as well to see if they know anything or would be willing to investigate further. Hopefully this thread will come to Glenn's attention and his staff can get to the bottom of this and just maybe provide an explanation.

I already tried to alert the Glenn Beck program to thisby email, but thought that posting it here at FR would generate a far greater awareness. And I’m fairly sure that someone on Glenn’s staff reads FR even if they cannot get to all his emails.

Now I will be the first to admit that perhaps, PERHAPS the Glenn Beck program was to provide a ‘special’ listing for today, and it just hasn’t been incorporated into the tv listing grid, thus leaving the ‘to be announced’ field entry. And it may well be corrected before the program airs.
But if the Left can whine that Rosie is being ‘censored’, don’t we have the same obligation to raise the issue when tv programming listings as important as Glenn’s show mysteriously ‘disappears’ on the day it’s to air?

Could Denis Collins have been dishonest when being questioned for jury selection, or were Libby's attorneys just plain incompetent? If Collins lied, this verdict should be overturned and a new trial should be held in some place other than Washington DC!

Rush said this morning that he got word from someone that the jury pool was so full of MoveOn.org members that the Defense simply ran out of presumptory challenges to get rid of biased jurors. Guess it wouldn't be too hard in DC to frontload the jury pool with BDS crowd.

All Novak had to do was get Armitage to agree to release his name as Novak's 'confidential source'. If Armitage refused, then he should have written a column immediately revealing exactly who Armitage was without revealing his name (like saying he was a high State Dept operative that has a bull neck and openly opposed the Administration) and plainly stating that his source was not from within the WH.

did you watch Hannity & Colmes tonight - the panel, including novak, david boies, and laura ingraham - took this verdict apart nicely.

What I really wanted Hannity to ask Novak is, "Don't you think that all this could have been avoided if only you had revealed that Armitage was your source within days of your initial column? Don't you feel any guilt in letting the WH twist in the wind, giving the Leftists like Wilson all the ammo they needed in their attacks on the Administration and letting Libby go to trial?"

Novak absolutely disgusts me for his allowing an innocent man to be tried and convicted in a Soviet styled Political Show Trial.

    Shame on you Novak! Shame!

    Armitage is total scum

Even worse IMO is Bob Novak who cowardly hid behind the journalistic BS of "protecting his source" all the while letting Libby and the entire Administration twist in the wind, and giving Wilson and the MSM all the ammo they wanted in keeping this sorry story alive for over 3yrs.

If Novak had only revealed that Armitage, not the WH as his source, in the first days or weeks of his initial column, instead of waiting more than a year!!, then all this "Fitzmas" crap would have easily been avoided, and a good man like Libby would now not be falsely convicted as a felon.

Yet he cowardly hid behind "protecting his sources" BS, and let an innocent man go to trial and possibly prison, and gave Wilson and the leftists in the MSM all the ammo they needed to damn the Administration. I think that Gibson is off target here-- we know that Richard Armitage is the source.
Novak, Woodward, and Armitage himself have come clean about it.

I really have great disgust now for Novak in all this. If only he had come clean immediately revealing that Armitage was his source, all this would have avoided. But NO, he had to keep his source "confidential" at the cost of an innocent man's career.

And don't say he had to protect his 'journalistic integrity'. IMO he no longer has any. We all know that if Russert were in his place and a Clinton were in Libby's, he would have disclosed his source's name within days. But it took Novak over a year, after the damage to Libby was done.

In the comments section, 'Rockhauler' made this addition:

Entering the keywords “iraq” and “chlorine” produced half a million hits.

    http://www.gulflink.osd.mil/declassdocs/dia/19950901/950901_511rept_91.html

A discussion of said document on Global Security .org:

Used as supporting evidence in a White House position paper 2002:
    http://www.whitehouse.gov/infocus/iraq/decade/sect3.html

A public document on a cia.gov web site discussing this further::
    https://www.cia.gov/cia/reports/iraq_wmd/Iraq_Oct_2002.htm#05

    On CNN circa 2003::
    http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/asiapcf/south/02/05/sprj.irq.chemicals/index.html

And printed in the Guardian that same year::

So what kind of ‘tanker’ truck was it? A propane tank, emptied of propane and filled with chlorine? A a tanker truck load of chlorine headed for a water purification plant? Or something else? What was the source of the chlorine? What quantity?

If you are interested in the fate of small denomination coins, remember the fate of the "farthing".
The British used to have a coin called the Farthing which was one quarter penny.
The Brits also had the ha'penny (half a penny).
Most of the older coinage, schillings, thrupence, etc went out of service when Britain converted to the decimal system in the early 70s, replacing eg the schilling (12d or 1/10th of a £) etc with the 20p "new pence" (which is also heptagonal).

If you've got a moment to research, it is a pretty interesting history in coinage going back to the 12th century, with explanation and usage of coins such as "Guinea", "Crown" and "Sovereign".

I think the new $1 should imitate the British 50 pence coin which is the about the same size as both the quarter and the Susan B, but is uniquely heptagonal, ie it has 7 sides.

Are the new coins going to the old size coins or those type that are about the size of a two bit coin?

Instead of repeating the same mistakes of making the new $1 coin the same size as the quarter, I think the US Mint ought to try making the new coin similar to the British 50p.
It is almost the exact same size as the quarter, but it is very distinctive and easily distinguishable in that it has 7 sides.
The British 1pound coin is the same size as the nickle but twice as thick which if we copied, would make it difficult for our vending machines to accept for now.
So I say, make the new $1 coin similar in shape to the 50p.

I find it absolutely disgusting that FNC thinks that ANS is what conservative America truly needs to hear about in the age of the GWOT. Especially when the Dhimmicrats are treasonously trying to lose the war in Iraq.
