This is just an FYI post regarding budget deficits and surpluses. It's interesting to note that since 1968 only a Republican Congress has run a budget surplus and that was from 1998 - 2001. In fact, Clinton was running quite a healthy yearly deficit until Newt Gingrich showed up with the 'Contract with America.' In terms of public debt, that increased 5% during Clinton's terms and about 5.1% during Bush's terms. The surplus/deficit is listed under the column 'Total' at the link.

The Democrats control Congress and in particular the Houses of Representatives which controls all money spent. So far in 2008 the Democrats' deficit is $455 billion. That's more than Bush ever had in 1 year. And the year 2009 is projected to have a $1 trillion dollar deficit caused by the Democrats. Wednesday, October 29, 2008 The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows Barack Obama attracting 50% of the vote nationwide while John McCain earns 47%. This is the first time McCain has been within three points of Obama in more than a month and the first time his support has topped 46% since September 24. Among those who “always” vote in general elections, Obama leads by just a single point.

Obama has 84% Democrats, 7% Republicans, and 42% Independents. McCain has 7% Democrats, 85% Republicans, and 37% Independents. The Backdrop to the RNC Convention is a NIGHTMARE! Are there any FReepers reading this who have direct access to the RNC people controlling the backdrop of the speakers at the RNC Convention? On TV the shot is close cropped and all you see is a horrible solid light blue while people like Fred Thompson, Joe Lieberman and others speak. Both candidates have lost some support from a month ago, with the Democrat now favored by 45% while his Republican opponent earns the vote from 40%. When “leaners” are included, Obama’s lead is down to just three points, 48% to 45%. A month ago, Obama led by six when leaners were included.
