CHICAGO (WLS) - A Chicago federal judge is rejecting the Illinois Republican Party effort to give overseas military members more time to mail back their absentee ballots. Several Illinois counties failed to mail absentee ballots to overseas military members from Illinois by a state mandated Sept. 18 deadline. The U.S. Justice Department went to court and last Friday announced it had reached an agreement with Illinois officials to rectify the situation. The agreement only affects six downstate counties and it means their overseas voters get an extra two to three days to return their ballots and still have them counted.

There literally were thousands of people jammed inside the open-air pavilion in front of New Lenox Village Hall. Because so many were waving protest signs and chanting their opposition to powerful Democrats, they didn't see the approach of the big bus. But dozens of others did. They split off from the bigger group, surrounding the vehicle....

Peace activist Cindy Sheehan wants to snatch House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's congressional seat from her in November, but first she's going to need the help - and signatures - of 10,198 friends and supporters. Sheehan was at San Francisco City Hall on Friday to take out papers for her independent run for Congress, but without those signatures from voters in the district, her name won't show up on the ballot. "It's an uphill battle," said Sheehan, who vowed to run against Pelosi in July after the speaker refused to start impeachment proceedings against President George Bush.

The Real Barack Obama Thursday, February 21, 2008 10:06 AM By: Ronald Kessler Article Font Size Michelle Obama’s comment that, for the first time in her adult life, she feels proud of America helps crystallize who Barack Obama is. To be sure, the wife of a candidate is perfectly free to have views that are distinct from her husband’s.
