"...It was no surprise that Gov. Jay Inslee was promising the state would take the feds to court over a proposed change in the Clean Power Plan rules regarding coal-burning generating facilities. "...The real surprise was one of Inslee’s reasons for challenging the proposed rule to allow states more control over emissions from coal-burning power plants, a reason that suggests either an unfamiliarity with geography or meteorology. (1st money quote - from the village idiot): "...“We’re breathing smoke from Mississippi,” he told reporters. “We’re breathing smoke from the rest of the United States.” "...Weather patterns generally go from west to...

The Seattle Times is running an unscientific poll in its on-line edition today that shows supporters of two Gonzaga University students who were put on probation after using a gun to defend their off-campus residence from a convicted felon last month outnumber their critics nearly 3-to-1, and there is still time to weigh in.

I got a call from Lieutenant Monique Patterson, the cop caught in the love triangle between former chief Warren Evans and Ralph Godbee two years ago. She said she had some text messages showing that she had sex with Godbee in exchange for a promotion. One text message from Godbee to Patterson said, "I want you, I think you, I breathe you, I taste you, I smell you, need I go on?" Another text message from Godbee to Patterson read, "I need a face to face so you can see that I say what I say because I'm in LOVE...

FRANKLIN, Ind. — Soldiers at Camp Atterbury are getting some help staying in the saddle before they head to Afghanistan. Three instructors are helping train 60 soldiers and airmen at the Indiana military training site to ride horses before they head to Panjshir Province, where mountainous terrain makes it easier to travel by horse. The 189th Infantry Brigade at Atterbury is paying for the lessons. In addition to riding, the soldiers learn grooming, handling and how to put a saddle and bridle on a horse. "We're a security element, so we have to learn this stuff," Senior Airman Justin White...

... “Despite the whining by industry about a tax increase, the time has come for Big Alcohol to pay its fair share of the cost burden of problem drinking in California. They’ve dodged the bullet for too long.” ... So here’s the lie. The neo-prohibitionists talk about how little taxes are paid on beer, as if breweries are getting away with something. ... Please explain to me how that’s different from the health risks posed by fast food, soda, red meat, and all manner of overindulgences? ... In addition to those taxes, breweries pay many other taxes on the beer...

...Led by Supervisor Yvonne B. Burke and City Councilwoman Wendy Greuel, the proposed effort asks Angelenos to simultaneously go dark between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, as San Franciscans do the same. Local officials are expected to vote on the plan next week. At the original event in Sydney, Australia, in March, 2.2 million people cut the lights, causing a 10% drop in electricity use. The so-called Earth Hour reduced 25 tons of carbon dioxide, equivalent to taking nearly 49,000 cars off the road for 60 minutes, organizers said....

(AgapePress) - A Canadian professor has been fined two weeks pay by a Nova Scotia university for telling a student that homosexuality is an unnatural lifestyle. But despite the disciplinary measures imposed against the educator, he says he refuses to succumb to the administration's "intimidation." Cape Breton University (CBU) fined veteran history professor David Mullan $2,100 in response to two human rights complaints filed by a homosexual student who coordinates the campus' Sexual Diversity Office. The student took umbrage at two letters the professor had written to his former Anglican bishop two years ago.
