On this episode of The Conservative Beacon Podcast, host Josh Price applies Thomas Paine’s ‘The American Crisis’ to America’s modern crisis: The quasi-dictatorship of the Obama regime. Josh discusses the Obama’s regime’s plan to grant refugee status to illegals from Honduras, allowing them to receive welfare and other public assistance; the FEC could try to ban online conservative media outlets; and the real reason behind income inequality. Many American colleges and universities are in the thrall of “diversity,” but none more so than my institution, the University of Wisconsin. This spring, the university adopted a new plan that, according to Board of Regents policy, “[p]laces the mission of diversity at the center of institutional life so that it becomes a core organizing principle.” That is, promoting diversity appears to be more important than teaching students. This Framework for Diversity and Inclusive Excellence sailed through our Faculty Senate without the least bit of attention, much less the “sifting and winnowing” on which it prides itself. Although much of...

On ABC's "This Week" on Sunday, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, who happens to be black, suggested that opposition to him and President Barack Obama in part is due to racial animus. For that, he has been vilified. He has been accused of trying to scare people to the polls (as if listening to the evening news wouldn't already do that), stoking racial divisions and throwing down the race card. And he is asked rhetorically "is it possible to oppose Obama and not be a racist?" The response to the attorney general's words has been very heated, and there is...

Today we celebrate the 238th birthday of American independence, but what was and should continue to remain the purpose of America? For me, no one has captured more eloquently or precisely just what America was created for than Abraham Lincoln: It is in order, that each of you may have through this free government which we have enjoyed, an open field and a fair chance for your industry, enterprise, and intelligence. He continues on the importance of fighting for this freedom: It is for this the struggle should be maintained, that we nay not lose our birthright–not only for one,...

Plutarch has been called as one of the most important writers who ever lived. Among his roughly 227 works, the most significant are the Parallel Lives (Bioi parall?loi), in which he chronicles the noble acts and characters of Greek and Roman soldiers, legislators, orators, and statesmen, and the Moralia, or Ethica, a sequence of over 60 essays on ethical, religious, physical,...

Fellow Freepers, I'm excited to announce the return of The Conservative Beacon blog and podcast after a brief hiatus. This country is rapidly approaching a point of no return to the vales that created and defined America for over ~200 years--just before the Sexual Revolution. The task before us requires more than singular focus on politics or the economy, or even solely on culture. As Constitutionalists and freedom-lovers, we must engage and influence every component that comprises American civilization, particularly two profoundly key areas: education and media/entertainment. This surely doesn't mean that we ignore politics or the day-to-day governmental operations....

You might not expect a child with Down syndrome to grow up and become a small-business owner — but that’s exactly what Tim Harris did. From the time he was 14 years old, his parents say, Harris was determined to own a restaurant. His dream came true several years ago when his father helped him get it off the ground. Today, “Tim’s Place” is thriving in the business of “breakfast, lunch and hugs.” The “Tim’s Place” website offers a famous quote from Walt Disney to explain the driving force behind his dream: “If you can dream it, you can do...

50 years ago on May 22, 1964 President Lyndon B. Johnson gave a historical Commencement Address at the University of Michigan. That speech introduced America to his utopian vision called the Great Society, the most recent stage in the evolution of Woodrow Wilson’s Progressivism and Franklin Roosevelt’s Second Bill of Rights socialist revolution. Until I started researching for this article I did not know that those grainy recordings I heard of LBJ touting his Marxist vision for America was made at U of M, yet I am not surprised. From 1985-87, I attended graduate school at U of M and...

The gifts have been exchanged and opened. Santa has returned to the North Pole to begin work for next Christmas Eve. The turkeys or Christmas hams are roasting in ovens across this great country. The commercial side of Christmas is over for another year. Now we honor the true and real purpose of our Christmas celebration: the birth of our Savior, Christ the Lord. Many of us will gather our families around the TV this Christmas Eve to watch Frank Capra’s It’s A Wonderful Life. The story behind the movie is well known, so I won’t bore you with reiterations of such. Capra based It’s A Wonderful Life on the short Christmas story, The Greatest Gift, by Philip Van Doren Stern. His adaption on the big screen of the ultimately undeniable importance and fragility of each and every one of our lives has become a gift to us in and of itself. A Saint to the bitter end there he continued his evangelism among his fellow prisoners and even with the Nazi guards some of whom were compassionate and aided Bonhoeffer to smuggle his letters out of prison to his student and best friend, Eberhard Bethge, family and to others, and these uncensored letters were posthumously published in volumes 7...

The globalist, progressive propaganda campaign deifying South Africa’s Marxist revolutionary and former president Nelson Mandela should be galling and disgusting to all people of good will who love truth, real history and hate lies. The Big Lie is that yes, Mandela experimented with communism in the 1940s early in his political career at the dawn of the black struggle against the racist White Afrikaners and that he and his organization, ANC (African National Congress) only turned to armed struggle in the early 1960s once he saw the futility of overturning capitalism while seeking to establish Black majority rule in South...

To the 65,910,437 people who voted for Obama in Nov. 2012 I ask: Based on the above statement where Obama gleefully cites “statistics” showing America’s level of “income inequality” to socialist hellholes like Jamaica and Argentina, I ask: Who has been president of the United States over the past 6 years?! 30 years ago I used to be a liberal Democrat until I used critical thinking techniques to convert to conservatism during my senior year in college. When I think back why I ever voted Democrat my only logical answer is tradition. My parents always voted for the Democrat Socialist Party (although my maternal grandfather and uncle was named after Theodore Roosevelt, a Republican). I grew up believing without question the racialist propaganda from the NAALCP (National Association for the Advancement of Liberal Colored People), Jesse Jackson, the Congressional Caucasian Caucus (aka Congressional Black Caucus). I even remember watching Walter Cronkite,...

Like most American households tomorrow morning, the Prices’ television will be tuned to the 85th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The parade has been a part of my Thanksgiving celebrations for as long as I can remember. Growing up, my parents and I would be the beneficiaries of two (count ‘em, two) Thanksgiving meals each year, one with my father’s side of the family and another with my mother’s family. Thanksgiving, and the holiday season for that matter, would kick off for us by watching the beginning of the parade coverage at 9AM while we were all getting ready for...

Did LBJ have JFK killed? This critical question has endured ever since that fateful day of 50 years ago—Nov. 22, 1963. Former Nixon White House advisor Roger Stone makes this central argument in his new book, The Man Who Killed Kennedy: The Case Against LBJ. Stone’s interesting narrative isn’t another “conspiracy theory” book to add to the already voluminous number of fantastical JFK assassination claims. Roger tells Reason Magazine Editor, Nick Gillespie that, “The whole term ‘conspiracy theorists’ is a pejorative that the mainstream media uses to denigrate anyone who questions the government’s version on virtually anything… I’m not talking...

Prologue Two phony words the political Left (including the U.S. Supreme Court) has used to great political advantage over the centuries are “secular” and “neutral.” These two words in my opinion only exist to obfuscate, to deconstruct and to pervert the truth. For example for 160 years the U.S. Supreme Court has shamefully perverted the Constitution using secular and neutral jurisprudence to promote and defend policies championed by the modern Democrat Socialist Party including unconstitutional even fascist doctrines like— Loyalists treason during the American Revolution, slavery, Jim Crow racial segregation; America’s first progressive President Theodore Roosevelt’s trust busting cases (1901-09);...

Thomas Hobbes (1588-1679) lived in exceedingly tumultuous times. Leviathan was written after the protracted Thirty Years’ War (1618-48) and during the brutal English Civil War (1642-1651) a war, like the Civil War was to Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, a traumatic event that completely changed his worldview from theism to atheism, and perverted his political thinking and writings making Hobbles value peace and constancy above God, truth and liberty. Leviathan argues for a “social contract” and rule by an absolute sovereign (as pictured on the original frontispiece above). Hobbes, being the de facto secretary to Sir Francis Bacon followed Bacon’s utopian...

Dort, wo man Bucher verbrennt, verbrennt man am Ende auch Menschen. (Where books are burned, they will, in the end burn people, too) –Heinrich Heine (1797-1856), German Poet Eric Metaxas in chapter 10 of his celebrated book, “Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy,” in a subsection called “Where Books Are Burned . . .” in dramatic fashion chronicles the rise of Nazi book burning in early Nazi history just four months after Hitler assumed power on January 30, 1933. Eric Metaxas in his revelatory book on the great German theologian and martyr Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who on April 9, 1945 was murdered at Flossenbürg concentration camp just three weeks before the Allied Powers defeated Hitler and the Nazis, wrote about “Nazi Theology” in chapter 11 and opened with this passage: “One sometimes hears that Hitler was a Christian. He was utterly pragmatic. In public he often made comments...

In 1972, Duke University professor James David Barber brought out a book that immediately was heralded as a seminal study of presidential character. Titled The Presidential Character: Predicting Performance in the White House, the book looked at qualities of temperament and personality in assessing how the country’s chief executives approached the presidency—and how that in turn contributed to their success or failure in the office. Although there were flaws in Barber’s approach, particularly in his efforts to typecast the personalities of various presidents, it does indeed lay before us an interesting and worthy matrix for assessing how various presidents approach...

The Republican Party was born in the darkest days of the American Republic. In the next few days it will die. The Republican Party saved the Union and abolished slavery. The Republican Party stood against Franklin Roosevelt’s internment of Japanese Americans during World War II and against Jim Crow laws in the 50’s. On a hot summer day, the most famous Republican of the Twentieth Century stood before one of the great icons of tyranny, and over the objection of his cowardly, country club Republican advisors, Ronald Reagan demanded, “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” In 1975, Reagan told conservatives...

We know our current situation and its continued decline should the course not be altered. I am interested in what America will look like in 30-50 years should we reverse our current course.
