The officer said the man, who'd quietly refused to pay his bill, became loud and obnoxious when officers arrived. When one officer, speaking to him in Spanish, told him he would be pat frisked, he allegedly slurred: "If I had a gun, I would've shot you, you guys would already be dead."

The mother of the 6-year-old boy who was wounded by gunfire in Roxbury lashed out at Mayor Martin J. Walsh last night, calling him a “liar” and insisting her son’s father was not the intended target of Sunday night’s shooting. “Mayor Walsh is a liar,” the mother told the Herald during a brief phone conversation from Boston Medical Center, where her son is hospitalized. “He lied about my kid’s father that he said that he was a target, when he was not a target. We were innocent bystanders. He did not say that. He didn’t speak to him at all.”

NOVA SCOTIA, Canada -- What would you think if you saw the words "Grab Her" on a license plate? Someone who saw that in Canada complained to the country's department of transportation, but it turns out that the plate is not an insult. The plate spells out a driver's last name, but that did not stop Transport Canada from canceling the plate.

The Senate voted to kill Obama-era online privacy regulations, a first step toward allowing internet providers such as Comcast, AT&T and Verizon to sell your browsing habits and other personal information as they expand their own online ad businesses. Those rules, not yet in effect, would have required internet providers to ask your permission before sharing your personal information.

In a letter to the Hawaii Republican Party on Wednesday, Rep. Beth Fukumoto wrote about the partisanship she saw from her colleagues on the right, which included criticism from her own caucus that she felt was due to her participation at the Women's March in Honolulu in January. "This election, I saw members of my party marginalizing and condemning minorities, ethnic or otherwise, and making demeaning comments towards women," Fukumoto wrote in her letter. "So, when I listened as our now top office holder refused to condemn the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II, speaking out didn't seem...

When the University of Arizona started accepting a generic graduate school exam for law school applicants last year, the national group that oversees such admissions chastised the university and threatened to oust it from its membership. But now that Harvard, the gold standard, is following suit, there is growing hope that dropping the traditional Law School Admissions Test as a requirement for applicants across the country could lead to a larger and more diverse group of lawyers entering the field.

A big chunk of those "likes," "retweets," and "followers" lighting up your Twitter (TWTR)account may not be coming from human hands. According to new research from the University of Southern California, up to 15 percent of Twitter accounts are in fact bots rather than people. The research could be troubling news for Twitter, which has struggled to grow its user base in the face of growing competition from Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and others.

The owners of a Washington wine bar have sued President Trump over what they claim is unfair competition, saying he is using the power of the presidency to lure business to his luxury hotel near the White House. The action, filed in District of Columbia Superior Court late Wednesday, is the latest legal attempt to pressure Trump over the unprecedented potential conflicts presented by his worldwide business holdings — including the Trump International Hotel, in a former Post Office building that Trump is leasing from the federal government.

  • Is the ‘Day Without a Woman’ protest elitist?

    Washington Post ^ | March 6, 2017 | By Dan Steinberg
The organizers of the massive post-inauguration women’s marches have called on female workers to stay home Wednesday, raising concerns among some supporters of the burgeoning feminist movement that the burden of the protest will fall too heavily on the poor. The debate over “A Day Without a Woman” has been simmering on social media and flared in North Carolina last week, when the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools superintendent decided to cancel classes March 8 because so many staff members plan to participate. While some applauded the school district’s decision, praising it as a gesture of support for its overwhelmingly female...

To some, they might seem an unlikely twosome: a former president and former first lady from two different administrations, different political parties, different generations and different upbringings. But George W. Bush tells PEOPLE that he feels a real fondness for Michelle Obama. “She kind of likes my sense of humor. Anybody who likes my sense of humor, I immediately like,” says Bush, in an interview to launch his first art book and new exhibit, Portraits of Courage: A Commander in Chief’s Tribute to America’s Warriors, a collection of his paintings of post-9/11 war veterans.

So when John Angelos, the Orioles executive vice president and chief operating officer, appeared on a local podcast this week, he was asked about the idea of inviting President Trump for a first pitch at Oriole Park. “Ultimately that decision is with the ownership group as to what major politicians and political figures and societal figures they want to invite,” Angelos said on the B-More Opinionated podcast. “I know that the administration has taken a lot of criticism for its controversial positions; I think more so perhaps for statements made both during the campaign and since the administration came in...
