In China, every citizen is being assigned a credit score that drops if a person buys and plays video games, or posts political comments online “without prior permission," or even if social media "friends" do so. The ACLU said the credit rating system, an Orwellian nightmare, should serve as a warning to Americans.

With the temperature outside slowly but surely dipping into winter levels, that annoying little tradition otherwise known as hindsight starts to rear its unabashedly annoying head. 2015, though we still have a little less than three months to completely upend this assessment, has given us the rise (or, in the case of these two gentlemen, the rebirth) of many a legend of pop culture, though two titans of headlines snatching reign bafflingly supreme: Donald Trump, that guy you kind of recognize from that one reality show you could never really bring yourself to watch, is still running for president. Rand McGowan stayed still amid the gunfire. The 18-year-old was in the writing class where a killer opened fire Thursday, killing nine at Umpqua Community College in Oregon's deadliest mass shooting. McGowan told family members that the gunman didn't specifically target Christians but asked them about faith. The shooter, apparently planning to die during the massacre, told students: "I'll see you soon" or "I'll meet you soon."

Her 12-year-old son reported to supervisors that an 18-year-old boy was pointing a knife at him and others inside Regents Park Library. But what that supervisor did next could have cost the little boy his life.

BELGIUM (Christian Examiner) -- A 24-year-old woman in Belgium is set to die by euthanasia later this summer simply because she has felt since childhood that she wanted to die. According to LifeSite News, euthanasia for psychological reasons is allowed in Belgium when a psychiatrist says a person's psychological pain cannot be relieved in a manner acceptable to the individual. "That means Laura (last name unknown) may be treatable, but Laura has decided that the only acceptable 'treatment' is death," the pro-life news service reports.

Those red eyes you get from swimming aren't caused by chlorine, according to an official with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. And the substances in the pool that do cause your bloodshot eyes will probably make you a little seasick. “Chlorine binds with all the things it’s trying to kill from your bodies, and it forms these chemical irritants. That’s what’s stinging your eyes. It’s the chlorine binding to the urine and sweat,” says the appropriately named Dr. Michael J. Beach, associate director of the CDC's Healthy Water program.

Lorenzo Ayala saved more than $16,000 to buy tractor parts while on a road trip to Montana to visit a woman he met online, but he ended up unwittingly contributing it to the state's first K-9 unit. Ayala forfeited his wad of cash after a state trooper became suspicious that the California farmer's generous amount of cologne, cluttered car and disputed criminal history were signs of drug trafficking. Ayala, of Palo Alto, was never charged with a crime — but Montana kept his money. This year, Montana became the fourth state to overhaul what activists call "policing for profit." Beginning...
