22 Ways To Be A Good Democrat [a case of contradictions] 1. You have to be against capital punishment, but support abortion on demand. 2. You have to believe that businesses create oppression and governments create prosperity. 3. You have to believe that guns in the hands of law-abiding Americans are more of a threat than U.S. Nuclear weapons technology in the hands of Chinese and North Korean communists. 4. You have to believe that there was no art before Federal funding. 5. You have to believe that global temperatures are less affected by cyclical documented changes in the earth's...

China’s central bank on Monday proposed replacing the US dollar as the international reserve currency with a new global system controlled by the International Monetary Fund. In an essay posted on the People’s Bank of China’s website, Zhou Xiaochuan, the central bank’s governor, said the goal would be to create a reserve currency “that is disconnected from individual nations and is able to remain stable in the long run, thus removing the inherent deficiencies caused by using credit-based national currencies”.

It is now spring; the vernal equinox was reached Friday morning. To celebrate, Barack Obama sent a video of himself to Iran. This was one of several end-of-week media performances, as Mr. Obama went back into "campaign mode" after a break of several months. The message of the polls is that he had better start selling his policies harder, because they are showing signs of not going over very well. Moreover, the unpolled elites, including those within the Democratic Party, have started to ask questions aloud about whether their man is competent; and as we know from painful history, such...

BACKGROUNDER: Compiled by Bill Gertz North Korean Missile Crossed Flight Path of Airliner U.S. officials are privately pleased by North Korea’s seven missile launches last week, as they highlighted the danger posed by the communist regime in Pyongyang and the need for missile defenses. The missile launches were carried out with no advance warning and were fired into a commercial air corridor used by numerous trans-Pacific airlines. One of the missiles crossed the flight path of a South Korean Asiana Airlines jet shortly before the plane passed through the area off the Russian coast of the Sea of Japan. U.S....

Government sent 50,000 immunity professionals to the region. The message is sent through posters, before farmers did not know the disease until there were people infected around them. By the time Boxun issues this message - 4pm (BJ time), XinHua News' web page still shows the death toll of July 30. There is only one item that was from yesterday. It seems that this warning is only for Sichuan Province.

Since democracy is the worldwide goal of the Bush Administration, we must face the stunning fact that the integration of different nationalities under a common European Union (EU) Constitution was rejected by decisive democratic votes. President Bush can thank conservative leaders for saving him from the embarrassment of endorsing the EU Constitution, shortly before it was so soundly defeated in France and the Netherlands. The EU Constitution was defeated, because Western Europeans don't want to be politically, economically, or socially integrated with the culture, economy, lifestyle, or history of Eastern Europe and Muslim countries. North Korea has resumed construction of nuclear reactors at Yongbyon and Thaechon that were frozen under the 1994 Agreed Framework with the United States, Japan's Nihon Keizai reported last week. U.S. intelligence agencies said the two graphite-moderated reactors are capable of producing plutonium for nuclear warheads. Aboveground work was underway on a 50,000-kilowatt reactor at Yongbyon and ground-leveling work had begun at Thaechon for a 200,000-kilowatt reactor. Government sources said the North Koreans had informed the United States about the resumed construction. The information has not been made public in the United States. The Bush administration acknowledges a major increase in the sale of U.S. components and technology that could bolster China's military. Sources said the administration has reduced export restrictions on numerous high-technology items required by China's military. They cited computer hardware, general-purpose microprocessors and equipment to manufacture semiconductors. The boom in sales of dual-use technology comes at a time when the Pentagon is sounding the alarm on the rapid growth of China's military and when the U.S. has pressed Israel to significantly reduce military exports to Beijing. In 2004, U.S.-China trade rose by more than 22 percent and included advanced dual-use...

Blockading China China’s economy survives at the mercy of the United States Navy. For thousands of years, China has been what is known as a “continental power.” That is, it had everything it needed right at home and was not dependent on seaborne trade to survive (like Britain and Japan, which are classic examples of “Oceanic Powers.”) But now China is an Oceanic Power, with over half of its GDP coming from exports to foreign nations. Moreover, nearly all the oil China uses is imported via seagoing tankers. China is now more dependent on access to the sea than Japan,...

After reading the choices available in the current sidebar poll (Priorities for the 2nd Term), it seems that one choice is missing. I'm sure that there are plenty more among FReepers, but I'd like to see the removal of the UN from our shores and the rescinsion of our membership in the UN listed as an option - and I'd really prefer to see UN membership become one of the litmus tests we apply to our elected officials. It used to be that the 2nd Amendment stance of a politician would tell you everything you needed to know about them...

An Army Ranger was on vacation in the depths of Louisiana and he wanted a pair of genuine alligator shoes in the worst way, but was very reluctant to pay the high prices the local vendors were asking. After becoming very frustrated with the "no haggle" attitude of one of the shopkeepers, the Ranger shouted, "maybe I'll just go out and get my own alligator so I can get a pair of shoes made at a reasonable price!" The vendor said, "By all means, be my guest. Maybe you will run into a couple of Marines who were in here...

StrategyPage's Military Photos Return to Military Photos IndexTwo JDAMs At Once on the Same Target In Iraq, a JDAM explodes as another, headed for the same aiming point, plunges into the dust and rubble. A common tactic with JDAMs GPS guided bombs is to drop two bombs on the same target, releasing the second as quickly as possible after the first. Sometimes this is done to make sure a vital target gets taken out, in case there is a malfunction ( about ten percent of the time there is a fuse or guidance system failure.) At other times, two...

Ran into these photos over at Strategy Page.com, and decided to post a couple of them for everyone's enjoyment. If you click on the source link, it will take you to the series of photos (11 in all) - they're all worth seeing, but I didn't want to use the bandwidth for those like me on dial up servers. Please note the proximity of the wingtip on the left side of the photo, as well as the nose of the aircraft on the right. You want to fly how close, and how fast? And do what??
  • C-130 Crack Up (When NOTAMs Really Matter)

At an American military airfield in Iraq, work was being done on the runway, but no one had bothered to issue a NOTAM (notice to airmen). Aircraft landing during the day were able to avoid the work site, but a C-130 came in at night on December 29th, hit the work area, and was totalled. There were several injuries among the crew and passengers, but no fatalities. There will, however, be some fatal effects on the career prospects of one or more air force officers (the ones responsible for distributing NOTAM information.)

This is a short video satire on life in Israel, presumably by the Israeli government - but I don't know for sure. At first blush it's funny, but when you think about it, it's horrible that any nation collectively has to live like that. Hopefully the Palis react reflexively whenever they hear an aircraft of any type, or the sound of tank/bulldozer tracks. To see the video (16 seconds is all - short download even on dial up like I have), click here.

Just when you thought that a Minigun or even a Vulcan might make you the talk of the show at Knob Creek this year, along comes something new. Yes, that really IS a 25mm chain gun that you normally find in the turret of a Bradley fighting vehicle - but pedestal mounted. Imagine the hours of fun you could have with this!!!!
