Randy Hopper is a state senator in Wisconsin. A Republican. He is now holed up with his colleagues — his Republican colleagues — in the capitol. The Democratic senators have apparently fled the state. Hopper says, “None of my colleagues from the minority party decided to come to work today.” The Democrats are denying the Republicans the quorum necessary to vote on key fiscal legislation. Hopper says, “I spent two years in the minority, and I came to work every day, even when I didn’t like the bills the majority was passing. I thought it was my job.” The Democrats,...

One of our correspondents sent a link to this post on the DC voucher program with a very brilliant idea: if the Republican Party is serious about doing something to reach out to the black community by making a gesture on behalf of the 1,700 minority kids Obama has consigned to the worst public schools in America, they’d spearhead an effort to revive the DC voucher program using private funds. $15 million is not a tremendous amount of money to raise if RNC chair Michael Steele would throw his weight behind an effort to get it done, and I would...

SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION No. _____ A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging the honorable Barack Obama, President of the United States, the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States, in Congress assembled, and the President of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives of each State's legislature of the United States of America to cease and desist, effective immediately, any and all mandates that are beyond the scope of their constitutionally delegated power. An oft-repeated aphorism instructs us that we can have our own opinions, but not our own facts — or at least not unless we get to stand behind the podium at the White House. When Barack Obama explained his economic package last night to the American people in a prime-time press conference, he made two flat-out false statements regarding his opposition. He also added a completely incorrect reading of history, one that turns out to be very instructive about his own economic incompetence.

How refreshing, then, that this presidential campaign season has given us not one but two political husbands to speculate about. First gentleman manqué Clinton is now out of the running, and we know more than we ever wanted to know about him anyway. The other is would-be second gentleman Todd Palin.

If the issue weren’t so serious for our nation, the irony would be delicious. Eric Holder, President Obama’s choice for Attorney General is justly criticized for many things. But the fact that he recommended that President Clinton pardon and release from prison unrepentant FALN terrorists while at nearly the same time advocating that law-abiding gun owners be imprisoned if their registration papers are not in order reveals a hard core left wing agenda. Eric Holder’s agenda is to make exercise of Second Amendment rights a minefield where an innocent misstep will land you in the penitentiary. When I testified against...

The primary function of any just government is to prevent and punish the taking of innocent human life. To but state the proposition is to prove it. Nevertheless, 36 years ago today, in the tradition of Scott v. Sanford, the Supreme Court of the United States took it upon themselves to declare that a certain class of humans were not really humans at all. In Dred Scott, the Supreme Court declared that certain humans were not humans and therefore could be enslaved. In Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court declared that certain humans were not humans and therefore not entitled...

Corruption: Wooten - Tip of the Iceberg Oct 2 Written by: Seth Church 10/2/2008 1:31 AM My turn: "Troopergate" allegations expose new corruption By Jim Crawford - I've known and respected many Alaska State Troopers in my 60 years in Alaska. But amazingly, now it appears that the most corrupt 'Good Old Boy' network is Alaska's Department of Public Safety. "Troopergate" allegations that Gov. Sarah Palin, her staff, or husband, Todd, used undue influence to get Trooper Mike Wooten fired were unfounded since he wasn't fired. The "Troopergate" investigation, however, documented the reasons why he should have been. I believe...

In the increasing flurry of this election's negative political ads, the Barack Obama campaign produced a TV commercial that not only attacks Republican rival John McCain, but also takes aim at an unusual target: a 31-year-old woman who was born alive after her mother's botched abortion. Obama's commercial predictably takes shots at the GOP campaign, calling John McCain's ads "the sleaziest ever, truly vile." But when the screen shows clips of abortion survivor Gianna Jessen and the ad she made asking Obama to reverse his stance on born alive infant protection legislation, the Obama ad calls Jessen's appeal "a despicable...

Your children could be paying double the rate in taxes paid by today’s American workers in ten years but Republicans want to stop this trend in its tracks. The latest effort to restore fiscal responsibility comes in the form of a Spending Limit Constitutional Amendment. The Republican Study Committee (RSC) is targeting out of control federal spending in order to equalize federal government spending with national economic growth. Their goal is to decrease the burden on American families, so that the budget does not increase more than the collective incomes of those families. RSC members at a press conference yesterday...

Thoughts on Growing Cell Phone Use, Polls, and Election Integrity Will the growth in households with no landlines and only a cell phone begin to skew poll results in the near future? Some pollsters are concerned: With more American households giving up their old-fashioned land lines and using cellphones for all calls, public opinion researchers are facing a challenge of how to make sure they are getting representative samples when conducting polls. Since the 1970s, pollsters have relied on sampling techniques that depend on talking with people on their home land line telephones. For the most part, the polls sample...

Giving the Gift of English By Ken Blackwell Thursday, December 6, 2007 One of the most unreported stories of the past month is Democrats in Congress refusing to protect the Salvation Army and other similar organizations from lawsuits for requiring their employees to be able to speak English on the job. This policy issue is also important politically, and Republicans will benefit politically by doing the right thing. John Fund’s recent Wall Street Journal article reveals this absurd situation. Lawsuits have been brought by individuals and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission against employers like the Salvation Army for requiring their...

ICYMI: Thompson would be "bullish" for stocks as President Larry Kudlow : Allright, were back with Michael Metz and Don [Luskin]. ...Mike Metz, you heard Fred Thompson talk about social security. He is the only candidate on the campaign trail with that kind of detail. He wants to slow down benefits and he wants to allow people some 401-k savings accounts, he's not afraid to take the heartburn. What do you make of this? Michael Metz: I was very impressed. I came skeptical, I think he did a good job. I think it is a problem that has to be...

The media have designated the front-runners for Republican and Democratic nominations for the 2008 presidential election and seem to expect American voters to line up behind one of them right now even though the national nominating conventions won't take place until next summer. Most Republicans are still shopping, and here are some of the statements they would like hear from a presidential candidate. Republicans want a president to appoint only judges who will enforce the U.S. Constitution as it was written. They want our president to appoint only judges who publicly reject the liberal notion that the Constitution is "evolving,"...

Here's a breakdown on the electability of the top tier GOP candidates in 2008. Keep in mind that a list like this is, by its very nature, is arbitrary and debatable. Moreover, I'm going to assume that Hillary will be the nominee these candidates would run against which is the most likely bet, but certainly not a sure thing. As a trailblazer in her own right, Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) was not impressed with Hillary Clinton’s crybaby performance following the most recent Democratic presidential debates. Blackburn, the first woman to represent Tennessee’s 23rd Senate district -- and since 2002 holder of Tennessee’s Seventh Congressional District seat -- knows well the self-restraint and stamina required for a woman to run a successful campaign amidst a male-dominated profession. Blackburn said she was surprised by Clinton’s negative response to heavy criticism from opponents and noted that “part of the discretion of serving in leadership is…knowing when to bite your tongue.”

These are my real time thoughts on Fred's speech. I think it is safe to say that his and Romney's are the most important for this crowd to hear) He came in to the strains of Johnny Cash's "I've Been Every Where." Jerri, Fred, and the family. The crowd went wild. Then he starts speaking. He begins with a seemingly distracted aside about his daughter not wanting to get off stage. People laugh. But then he revs up. It's his usual folksy style. Now here is the interesting thing about Fred. As of now, he really hasn't put out a...
