At $50k a pop though, they aren’t cheap. Especially when a kassam rocket can be made for a few hundred bucks. Better than the alternative (i.e. no shield) but crazy expensive.
Just because it’s not Andrew or Katrina doesn’t mean it’s not doing damage. 18” rain in one day for the entire east coast is nothing to sneeze at. And don’t count out the storm surge either. Could do a lot of damage on Long Island, as it’s perpendicular to the storm’s movement and will likely be hit at high tide.
Otherwise, we might have never known for sure. Also, we wouldn’t have the huge trove of computers, hard-drives, etc. that we picked up. Could very well be key to averting terrorist attacks that were in the works.
The only problem, is that it usually takes something like the massacre of an entire town for the rest of the people to decide to do something about that 1%.
I fear for the lives of these people. The cartels don’t like it when people stand up for themselves. Hopefully, these people will be prepared when it happens.
I know I was pretty pissed off at Fox News yesterday. They had an “Alert” that said “North Korea at it Again”. Got all worked up but when none of the other channels had anything on it, I started to get suspicious. Of course, nothing was happening and it was just Fox News being sensationalist again, ala the “Dog Stuck on Ice on Hudson River” Breaking News Alert.
Amazing that Ebert is still writing after what he has gone through.
Ebert teamed with Richard Roeper for the television series Ebert & Roeper & the Movies, which began airing in 2000. Although his name remained in the title, Ebert did not appear on the show after mid-2006, when he suffered post-surgical complications related to thyroid cancer which left him unable to speak. Ebert ended his association with the show in July 2008,[10] but in February 2009 he stated that he and Roeper would continue their work on a new show.[11]
