Some brush/scrub, but quite alot of rather impressive forest, too. Cobb Mountain is thick with springs and associated ecosystems. Was once (perhaps) the most famous resort destination in California. Google “Hoberg’s Resort” for a glimpse of what’s been lost.

Uh-Oh... Here come the corny jokes.... Like...

A grasshopper walks in to a bar. The bartender says “Hey there! Did you know there’s a drink named after you?” “Really?’” says the grasshopper, “there’s a drink called a Jeremy?”

“An ex-girlfriend from years ago would always seem to complain or be somewhat rude to the wait staff even if they were doing a fine job. Kinda bugged me out.”

When a Young Man (which I once was) an Old Guy (which I am now) gave me some very sage advice regarding women: “Watch how they treat store clerks, wait staff, house cleaners, etc. THAT’s how they will treat YOU once they figure they’ve got you.” Could not be more true. Look for kindness, grace, and true class over ANY other attributes, Young Men.

For those interested in what Thompson had to say, I would (very highly) recommend her book “Dorothy Thompson’s Political Guide”. In this short, well-written effort, she distinguishes true liberal thought from collectivism in any of its manifestations.

Dare I say it would make a fine Christmas gift for students, perhaps especially those prone to confusing Obama’s spirit-crushing, soul-draining, idiocy with actual social progress?

“...more creative ways to teach it.” AMEN. I struggled (got D's) in both HS and JC Algebra. It wasn't until I took physics at a genuine University that I understood why: Algebra (excepting the word problems) had to me been like a language with nothing to say. Once I realized that algebra (and all of math, really) is the language of the sciences (and thus, the key to solving some very, very interesting puzzles), I was hooked.

If I had been taught algebra in the context of physics in HS, it would have clicked. Just the way my brain is wired.

Commenting on the foolishness of the original article, I'd have a few years ago been shocked by such “thinking”. No longer. Our nation seems now to be overrun (or run) by a bunch of “big thinkers” from junior high who, because they've had smoke blow up their rears for so long, honestly believe that any opinion they happen to develop is a) correct, and b) beyond brilliant.

The introduction of such notions to The People via the media is fundamental to attainment of the ultimate goal. While there is far, far too much money involved in politics (from all sources, but in many cases, largely unions, etc.), a revision to “improve” our Constitution's First (and possibly most vital) Amendment would in all probability serve only to make matters much worse. However, if a leader of our Congress suggests that such a dramatic solution should be considered a valid, reasonable response to a timeless problem, The People will be numbed, and finally, unresponsive, when the End Game begins. Ms. Pelosi’s spew is not hysterical or idiotic; it is cool and very purposeful.

Obama will win, and by a landslide. We are living in a country whose people are no longer guided by wisdom, and who, in fact, disdain it. The population has been intentionally dumbed-down, as evidenced by the fact that it elected Obama to office. There is no opposition to his rule; if there were, there would be legitimate candidates being offered up from the Republican “side”, which I am beginning to doubt exists any longer.

Thanks for the post, Dude. A most remarkable man, that Mr. Reagan.

A worthy forward to our “liberal” friends (I consider myself liberal, but by today’s standards am considered a right-wing nut-job...).

One can only imagine the contrast between this speech and the one our current President will someday, hopefully sooner than later, give.

By the time we, as a nation (as opposed to us here on FR...), begin to think “this is too bizarre to be happening”, it will be far too late. What seems to be happening, however, is that spectacularly bizarre things keep happening, and we just don’t seem, as a nation, to give a damn. Far more important, it would seem are skank-filled “reality” shows (unlike many others, I actually believe such shows DO capture the reality lived by a great number of people...) and televised sports (which I, too, confess to enjoying perhaps a bit too much...). Unfortunately, we have passed the point of no return, and the transformation/disfiguration of our culture will continue apace.

A telling graphic. Absent Faith, Western Civilization has fallen. WIth Faith (however misdirected it may be), the Islamic World has filled the void. “Ultimately, the Self proves too limiting for sustained enthusiasm.” Our fascination with Self has drained enthusiasm for life from our culture, and dimmed our interest in the future; hence, little interest in the building of families.

While successful foreign policy requires that our President have a firm grasp on the inner workings of other nations, it also requires that these same nations have a clear understanding of where our President stands, and that he stand for the U.S.

The first can be acquired; the second is a matter of character and integrity, and so cannot. With Cain’s executive style and intelligence, any possible shortcomings in the global arena would be quickly overcome, and are thus of limited concern to me.

(Recall, for example, the effectiveness of Reagan: much of his success in this area, I believe, was a direct result of our enemies —and friends— knowing exactly what he believed, and that he was a man of principle; there was no doubt in their minds that he meant what he said.)
