  • St. Louis usurps Detroit to become most violent city in the US: (tr)

A list of the most violent cities in each state has been released, with St. Louis, Missouri taking the top spot. Compiled from data released by the FBI charting crime in the first six months of 2015, the 'Gateway City' is followed by Memphis, Tennessee, Detroit, Michigan, Birmingham, Alabama, and Rockford, Illinois, to round out the top five. The violent crimes listed by the FBI include rape, robbery, aggravated assault, and murder. Because the data excludes states with cities that do not have populations over 100,000, Delaware, Maine, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming are not listed and ranked.

Then in October, the company announced that local authorities in Hebei province revoked some of its production permits and manufacturing certificates over local safety and environmental concerns. They also asked that the company relocate some facilities away from residential...

Fighting Words: An Open Letter to Publisher Arthur Sulzberger, Jr. The New York Times just published the newspaper's first front page editorial in 95 years. It urged America's legislators to outlaw civilian ownership of semiautomatic battle rifles. This editorial twisted words to castigate our militia arms as follows: "These are weapons of war, barely modified and deliberately marketed as tools of macho vigilantism and even insurrection." The editor went on to urge: " Certain kinds of weapons, like the slightly modified combat rifles used in California, and certain kinds of ammunition, must be outlawed for civilian ownership. His brother and father are also infected, and more than 150 people with whom the boy may have come into contact are now being monitored, according to Reuters. The zombie narrative, popularized by the hit television series The Walking Dead, in which a small group of Americans attempt to survive in a zombie-ridden, post-apocalyptic world where they’re not only fighting off flesh-eating ghouls but cannibalistic humans, plays to our fears and paranoia. Yet as journalist Syreeta McFadden points out, while dystopian stories used to reflect our anxieties, now they reflect our reality, mirroring how we as a nation view the world around us, how we as citizens view each other, and most of all how our government views us. Fear the Walking Dead—AMC’s new spinoff of its popular...

Colorado HealthOP announced Friday that the state Division of Insurance has de-certified it as an eligible insurance company.
