  • Tom DeLay Conviction Overturned By Texas Appellate Court (Tom DeLay for Speaker)

A Texas court ruled Thursday to overturn the conviction of former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas), who was found guilty of money laundering in 2010. According to KHOU 11 and the Associated Press, the Third Court of Appeals in Austin said the case's evidence was "legally insufficient to sustain DeLay's convictions," formally acquitting the former congressman on charges of money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

Eustace Conway, chronicled in the Mountain Men TV series is not the only NC Mountain Man fighting the government over Private Property Rights. When Phillip Byrd’s father was dying, he had one wish that he passed on to his son: “Promise me Phil that you will have the state of North Carolina honor the agreement regarding Locust Knob Tower Road.” For forty years, the Byrds have been fighting off and on with state officials to induce them to honor the State’s contractual agreement regarding the Byrd’s property rights on a strikingly beautiful mountain between Asheville and Boone.

When I raised my own objections to the treaty to Sen. Hagen of North Carolina, I specifically questioned why we would want to accede our sovereignty to a foreign entity. She told me that we would not have to cede any rights to the U.N. that were counter to our own laws. Were that true, why sign the treaty, I asked? If it is ineffectual, at best it is a waste of time. And if it is not ineffectual, why were we relinquishing our national authority? How was that in our best interest? She did not respond.

I was at a party with several law enforcement folks target shooting and eating some pretty awesome barbecue. Guns have a way of loosening the tongue, and one new friend asked me if I was aware of the NC policy that allows convicted felons, including murderers, weekend furloughs home. “Haha,” I laughed, “That’s a good one!” I am known for being gullible and the host of this particular party loves to catch me being stupid. Are government officials upset that someone can survive without them? Thirty years ago, Eustace Conway bought 100 acres in North Carolina with a vision of a self-sufficient, simpler life style. Turtle Island Preserve became his home and livelihood, with income earned by teaching eager groups self-dependence using nothing but the land and their wits. He lives simply without the need for a single government subsidy, program, or hand out. The now 1000 acre settlement is a working, educational farm, with every building and facility made from materials and often forgotten skills once utilized by our pioneering ancestors. This lost art...

The skein of alleged corruption in NC politics is unraveling. First, there is evidence of illegal online registration by NC Democrats in the presidential election. Now, a 501c(3) nonprofit group, specifically forbidden to engage in partisan politics was inconveniently exposed for doing just that. Based in Raleigh, Blueprint North Carolina is an advocacy and policy group which is, as noted on its website, “strictly non-partisan” (wink, wink). In addition, they claim, “Blueprint activities will not be coordinated with any candidate, political party or other partisan entity.”

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - Business conditions at manufacturing firms in the Philadelphia region worsened in May, according to the monthly survey issued Thursday by the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. The Philly Fed index fell to -5.8 from 8.5 in April, well below expectations. Economists polled by MarketWatch had expected the index to increase to 10.0. Reading below zero indicate that more companies are contracting instead of expanding. The new-orders index dropped to -1.2 from 2.7 in April and the employment index, a gauge of hiring expectations, also turned negative.

One of the most contentious issues in public education in this country, in addition to teachers unions, is school vouchers. But to me, it's pretty straight forward. Vouchers help parents pay for private schools - giving their kids more opportunity, and in some cases, a safer choice - without putting their retirement on the line, and going broke in the process. And I’m not alone in that thinking. Nineteen states and Washington D.C. have a voucher system or similar program, according to the Wall Street Journal Read more: http://www.foxbusiness.com/on-air/willis-report/blog/2012/04/12/give-parents-choice?link=mktw#ixzz1rwHjWA2J
