Detroit Police dedicate police squad cars to escort Michael Jackson plush toys to Woodlawn Cemetary. So far as I know, this is NOT an Onion News Network piece.

I read a depressing poll two days ago that indicated a majority of American evangelicals in their twenties were going to vote for Obama. I'd be curious to see if any Freepers heard anything today at all from the pulpit about the obligations of a Christian in a representative democracy. I can't imagine there would be many pastors courageous enough to mention a name, from the pulpit, but did any of your pastors urged you to vote for the candidate who best represented the values the historic church holds dear--life, liberty, justice? Did any of them mention any of the...

John McCain is supposed to be the presidential candidate best equipped to tackle what he calls “the transcendent challenge of our time: the threat of radical Islamic terrorism.” His speech yesterday to the LA World Affairs Council demonstrates, however, that McCain doesn’t get it....

According to Karen Taylor of the California Homeschool Network, California Assemblyman Joel Anderson (R-El Cajon) has introduced a resolution supporting homeschooling and calling on the Supreme Court to reverse the Second Appellate Court ruling in the Long case. Although neither CHN nor any of the other homeschooling groups were involved in drafting this resolution, CHN is requesting that California residents supportive of homeschooling contact their legislators & ask them to vote for this resolution. If you do not know the contact info for your Assemblyman/woman, you can check here

When Ken Tomlinson calls for an investigation into the “cover-up” of U.S. Arabic broadcasting outrages, it is clear he understands where that probe would lead: to Karen Hughes, under secretary of State for public diplomacy and a long-time member of President George W. Bush’s inner circle...

The author of a U.S.-published book that accused a former Saudi banking executive of funding terrorism is battling a precedent that experts say could give any foreign libel law priority over U.S. free press and speech guarantees. The case involving Rachel Ehrenfeld is one of the "most important First Amendment cases of the past 25 years.."

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Christian, Jewish and Muslim leaders are urging President George W. Bush and Congress to take action against global warming, declaring that the changing climate is a "moral and spiritual issue." In an open letter to....

"God does not call the church to influence the culture by promoting legislation."            — John MacArthur, Why Government Can't Save You, 2000Now frankly, if you object to that remark by John MacArthur, it would seem to me that you would also have to object to the Apostle Paul's statement that "righteousness doesn't come by law."            -- Phil Johnson, John MacArthur ApologistThese two statements reflect, very dismally, the tendency of today's churchmen to render the gospel of Christ impotent.  Let's examine the first one:    God does not call the church to influence the culture by promoting legislation. Oh...

"On Sept. 14, 1847, American troops entered Mexico City, where they remained until peace was restored." --Answers.com Perhaps we need to have a holiday of our own--to counter the Mecha, Reconquista crowd?

From the very outset of the post 9/11 era our leaders have taken every effort to distinguish between the predominantly Muslim groups that have executed acts of terror and the faith itself, even to the point of extricating the word "crusade" from discourse and using the bully pulpit to pronounce "Islam" a "religion of peace." For some time, a close friend of mine has been involved, almost full time, in studying the historical record of Islam, with particular concentration on Wahhabism. His conclusions are that wherever Islam exists, its adherents work, openly or clandestinely, for total control and that Islam...

We have none other than John Adams, our second president, to thank for a definitive, and prophetic, quote on the proper way to celebrate Independence Day:The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations, from one...

Here's my letter to Kenneth Chan of the Christian Post. They seem to be doing everything they can to pretend there is no religious angle to the New Jersey killings. Please write Mr. Chan (kenneth@christianpost.com) and encourage him to dig a bit deeper: Dear Mr. Chan, Your article in the Christian post, published under the title "Christians, Muslims call for Unity in New Jersey," only included, that I could tell, a single comment from a single Episcopalian minister, but no updated response from Coptic clergy in the area. Did I miss something? Have you pressed federal and local authorities for...

Please pardon this vanity, freepers, but we live in a part of the country that is unlikely to get DSL anytime soon. Eight days ago I had a dish installed and it has just barely functioned 25% of the time. I'm beginning to think that unless you know someone in upper level management at Hughes, you can't expect to get competent technical or on site service. On the first level of service, you get very cordial East Indians who generally can't solve the problem. At "advanced" service, you get generally conflicting advice, and after you've exhausted them, and literally begged...

For anyone who might be a little discouraged about the direction of the country, or the erosion of our Constitutional Liberties, I thought I would pass on this story about a friend of mine, (we'll call him Jesse) who grew up in Western Montana: In his part of Montana, (I suppose this applies to the entire state), you can carry a pistol without a permit. As a teenager, Jesse carried all the time. His dad gave him a revolver, (I believe it was a .38), and then he saved up his money and by the time he was fifteen, he...

When Yuppies go N.I.M.B.Y.Zoning Issues and the Good Neighbor Policy In our mutual desire to preserve the rural felicities of our little valley, we must remember, that—above all else—being a “good neighbor” is the best way to preserve community peace. Here are some guidelines for being a good neighbor in these trying times of urban sprawl: 1. It almost goes without saying, but if you own property in our little valley and you haven’t built a home yet, consider not building. If you build a home, it might seriously impact our views of the valley, and no one likes to...

An intended civics lesson turned into a lesson in frustration Thursday for a group that traveled from Fontana High School to hear presumptive Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry speak at Colton High School. ....Mark Shepherd with Baca's office said he had been told the students were part of a Young Republicans organization, which the students denied. Despite their denial, the students were not allowed into the auditorium.
