Before yesterday I didn't know much about David Frum. I've seen his name here and there on FR, and that's about it. Yesterday he was on the Laura Ingraham show, and I've got to say I don't much care for him. He is suppose to be a conservative, but to me he sounded more like a RINO. What is the deal with this guy?
  • Rights vs. Wishes

I read this article several years ago by economist Walter Williams. It bears reading again. We hear so much about "rights" -- a right to this and a right to that. People say they have a right to decent housing, a right to adequate health care, food and a decent job, and more recently, senior citizens have a right to prescription drugs. In a free society, do people have these rights? Let's look at it. At least in the standard historical usage of the term, a right is something that exists simultaneously among people. A right confers no obligation on...

Below is Article I Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution. This is the Scope of Congress' authority to enact legislation. I'm curious, can someone point me to the one that states that Congress can overhaul the healthcare system, or enact hate crimes legislation, or bail out GM, the banks, etc., cause I'm not seeing it. Section 8. The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States; but all duties, imposts and excises shall be uniform throughout the United...
  • Oklahoma City's Policy on Officer Shootings Debated

If you shoot someone in self-defense, Oklahoma City police likely will interview you that day. But a city rule adopted last year prevents officers who use deadly force from being fully questioned until 48 hours have passed. Police Chief Bill Citty said that’s because circumstances differ between civilian and police shootings. If you shoot someone, your bosses — and bosses’ bosses — won’t rush to the scene. If they do, they won’t be allowed to cross the yellow crime-scene tape. When officers shoot, they end up surrounded by their superiors and colleagues, Citty said. They may feel pressured to talk...
  • Utah Senator Orrin Hatch calls for BCS investigation

Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch urged the Justice Department on Tuesday to investigate college football's Bowl Championship Series for what he views as violations of antitrust laws. Hatch made the comment after conducting a standing-room-only hearing in the Senate subcommittee with antitrust oversight, where he serves as the top Republican. "Frankly, there's an arrogance about the BCS that just drives me nuts," he told reporters. "Hopefully this hearing will open the door to have some people reconsider their positions. And if nothing else, the Justice Department ought to be looking at this."
  • Transformers: Worst-Reviewed $400 million hit?

After just five days, "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" is halfway to $400 million domestically, a box-office milestone only eight other movies have reached. If it climbs that high, the "Transformers" sequel will be by far the worst-reviewed movie ever to make the $400 million club. Critics and mainstream crowds often disagree, but "Revenge of the Fallen" sets a new standard for the gulf between what reviewers and mass audiences like.
  • Miley Cyrus Fights Scalpers With Paperless Tickets

As Miley Cyrus prepares to hit the road this fall, the spotlight is shining on what was once a relatively minor piece of the touring puzzle: the ticket. Or in this case, the lack thereof. Cyrus' tour will use paperless tickets, and that's causing a commotion, mostly among the scalpers who infamously made so much money from her last tour.

Oklahoma is Kansas City Bound The Sooners survived Texas’ furious political campaign to finish ahead of the Longhorns in the BCS rankings and advance to the Big 12 Championship. Because OU, Texas and Texas Tech all finished in a three-way tie atop Big 12 South, the tiebreaker was decided by the team ranked highest in the BCS. OU will play Big 12 North champ Missouri on Saturday night in Kansas City.

Yesterday I was substitute teaching an art class at a school here in Oklahoma. The assignment for the students was to do a political drawing. This lead to a little discussion on the Presidential race, and I asked the question of the students, "If you could vote in this election whom would you vote for." The teenager next to me (a white kid) stated, "Obama baby" without hesitation. What happened next just amazed me. The teenager across the table from him, who happens to be black says, "Are you voting for him because you like his stance on the issues...

  • Bill Clinton: McCain acted in "Good Faith" on Debate Delay

Former President Bill Clinton defended Sen. John McCain's request to delay the first presidential debate, saying McCain did it in "good faith" and pushed organizers to reserve time for economy talk during the debate if the Friday plans move forward. Appearing on Good Morning America Thursday, Clinton told ABC News' Chris Cuomo that McCain's push to postpone the debate would only be a good political move if both candidates agreed. McCain announced on Wednesday that he would "suspend" his presidential campaign to come to Washington to help negotiate a financial bailout bill "We know he didn't do it because he's...

I'm not a big fan of Kristen Powers, however I have noticed here lately she seems to be about the only liberal that I see in the media that is calling other liberals out for some over the top comments. I was just watching Hannity and Colmes and Colmes makes some statement about Palin, and Kristen told him that his statement was not a fair statement. I just wish I could recall what he said. Man I miss my DVR on cable.
  • State Senator Andrew Rice (D-OK) Commercial

I just saw a commercial by Oklahoma State Senator Andrew Rice who is the Democrat running against the incumbent Republican, Jim Imhoff. Watching it I would have sworn I was watching a commercial made by the McCain campaign. He talked about how Imhoff was attacking him with negative ads that were not true, that he's been in Washington for 22 years and he's suppose to represent us, the people, but he's just interested in keeping his job. It just seemed so close to the McCain message of real change to put power back in the hands of the people. Are...

I did a search and didn't see where anyone had posted about Obama on O'Reilly tonight. Here is something Obama said that REALLY bothers me, in essence he said, "if you've got someone over here that's got money, and over here is a waitress making minimum wage, why not help her out, it's the neighborly thing to do." This was in response to Bill questioning about increasing taxes on the rich. It is not a function of government to redistribute income. If someone works hard to become successful, here comes Obama and he decides I can afford it, and wants...

People should have one meat-free day a week if they want to make a personal and effective sacrifice that would help tackle climate change, the world's leading authority on global warming has told The Observer Dr Rajendra Pachauri, chair of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which last year earned a joint share of the Nobel Peace Prize, said that people should then go on to reduce their meat consumption even further. His comments are the most controversial advice yet provided by the panel on how individuals can help tackle global warning.
