Do you really want to open up a constitutional convention with type of politicians we have today? A convention would allow the wholesale rewriting of the constitution. There would be no guarantee that it would even resemble the document written by the founders. All sorts of socialist, progressive ideas could be codified. A new bill of rights would likely include the right to housing, healthcare, education, and employment. I am alarmed by the call for a constitutional convention on FR. A convention would not strengthen the constitution, it would destroy the last vestiges of it. WAKE UP! We do not have a Madison, Jefferson, Adams or Washington among our political elite right now. All we have are a bunch of Hamiltons.

I have said it before and I will say it again: Ronald Reagan himself wouldn’t be able to win most of you over as a true conservative in today’s environment. Remember, Reagan was a Democrat before he was a Republican; he was president of the Screen Actor’s Guild (a union); and, as governor, he signed into law the first liberalization of abortion policy in California. Although, not technically pro-choice, the law did set the stage for the fully permissive abortion law we have today. With this background, I suspect many of you would accuse the Gipper of being a RINO. Reagan was the least progressive president since Calvin Coolidge, but many here wouldn’t have looked past his past in today’s ultra-sensitive, conservative-litmus-test environment. Get a grip. It is precisely this nit-picking by nit-wits that split the conservative vote 5 ways during the last primary season and gave us John McCain.

Look at Romney’s real record.... Slashed spending, no tax increases, balanced budgets and a revived Massachusetts. Many cite his support and work on Massachusetts’s health reform legislation as the chief cause for concern, but do you actually understand the bill as it was originally passed? The law today is not how it was originally conceived. The liberals in Massachusetts bastardized it once Romney left office. And, let’s not forget how Romney single-handedly staved off a constitutional crisis as he applied a 1917 law to prevent gays from outside of the commonwealth from marrying in the commonwealth after the court decided to grant gays the right to marry.

We need to stop being so ultra-sensitive. No candidate is going to meet everyone’s idea of the perfect conservative and we need to stop the nit-picking or we will wind up with a TRUE RINO like McCain in the next election.

The Chinese action in the South Pacific recently against our Naval ship is connected with this story. The Chinese, I believe, were trying to send a message to Washington: “Don’t devalue the Dollar or else.” China is subtly trying to use the threat of military action to keep Washington in line. If the Dollar tanks and China loses these assets, there will be no incentive for them to remain at peace with us.

Obama even acknowledged in his presser today that the Governor spoke to aides about Obama not being willing to play the game. How could the Governor know that Obama wasn’t willing to go along unless their had been some contact between the Governor and the transition team? Why was the Governor mentioning that he might just give the seat to himself if Obama didn’t want to play ball if he hadn’t spoken to someone in the Obama camp?

Several articles have mentioned that Blago was seeking a cabinet post or ambassadorship in exchange for the senate seat. How can he seek those positions from the incoming administration without having spoken to someone at the transition team? This is going to get interesting.

There is a reason Mormons aren’t intimidated easily. Demonstrations outside Mormon temples are nothing compared to what they have endured in the past: Massacres, mobbings, having their homes ransacked, being forced to flee their homes in the dead of winter on threat of extermination (an order signed by the governor himself), being forced out of the territory of the United States across the plains. In the cause of morality and virtue, Mormons will always take a stand, regardless of what others say or do.

I am Mormon, and believe (and know) that Jesus Christ is the Son of God; he suffered in Gethsemane and died on the cross for my sins, and was resurrected on the third day that I might be saved. His is the only name whereby salvation comes. You need to stop believing what the Mormon haters tell you and actually listen to an actual Mormon.

Nevada’s significance to the election cannot be understated: in the last two presidential elections, Bush wouldn’t have won if Nevada’s electoral votes went to his opponents. Nevada is a true swing state with fairly equal numbers of Republicans and Democrats. If the election is close, Nevada’s 5 electoral votes will determine the winner. I am surprised that McCain hasn’t spent more time here. Nevada was central to Bush’s winning strategy and he spent a lot of time here.

Clark is heavily democrat, but Washoe County (Reno) also has had a larger Democrat turnout as well during the early voting. Washoe County is traditionally more republican, but in the last few years, parts of Reno have been trending more Democrat. Democrat registration in Washoe County is higher than Republican this year.

Drudge posted an article from the Las Vegas Review Journal that supported the fact that the models predicting new and younger voters are all wrong. In Nevada, at least, the those who haven’t voted in the last 3 elections and the younger voters haven’t turned out in the percentages hoped. See Drudge for the article.

Nevada is actually really split. The north and rural areas are very conservative, but Las Vegas is heavily democratic. That is why the hotel unions are all in Las Vegas and not in Reno or rural Nevada. It takes a serious get-out-the-vote effort in Northern and rural Nevada to overcome the democrat leaning Vegas area. I haven’t seen the type of GOTV effort here as I have seen in the last two election cycles. Remember, Clinton won Nevada twice, due to the influence of Vegas. Bush and Dole won all other Nevada counties, but the vote in those counties was not enough to counter to Vegas vote. In the past few years, the newer and growing parts of Las Vegas have actually turned more conservative, so there is hope there as well.

Fellow Elko County resident here: In ‘04 we got a visit from Cheney. In ‘06 Presdient Bush came to Elko to get out the vote for NV republicans. So far, all we have seen here in ‘08 is Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin’s brother. If Elko doesn’t generate enough McCain votes to help counteract the liberals in Clark County we are doomed. Elko Republicans need about 84% turnout to accomplish this. I hope we remember to vote.

Look at my earlier posting. Even though the sample size is small, it has been fairly consistent over the last 9 days for McCain. I see a trend that points to a youth vote for McCain.

Look at the 18-24 age group in this poll: 74% for McCain and 22% for Obama. Who says that Obama is getting the youth vote? The poll tries to explain away this number by indicating that wide fluctuations are possible because of the small sample size of this cohort, but Obama was ahead 66% to 26% on day 1, increased his lead on day 2 and has been ahead only once since day 3. In fact, most of the past 11 days, the two have been pretty close in this demographic, with McCain ahead most of the time and picking up points the last two days. Even though the sample size is small, I haven’t seen much fluctuation, and, in fact, it has remained pretty steady for McCain for the past 9 days. McCain has the youth vote.
