Our own Steven Crowder headed to the University of Massachusetts (UMass) yesterday to co-panel an event called “The Triggering” with Christina Hoff Sommers and Milo Yiannopoulos. Steven had hopes of telling a few jokes. You know, those words that form sentences with punchlines at the end? Well as bad luck would have it, a leftist protester, or social justice warrior (SJW) was having none of that. Crowder put him through the figurative meat grinder. Yeah, the bad luck wasn’t for Crowder so much of the formerly standing SJW who’s now vacuumed sealed. Buy him at your local deli. Language warning

As we head to 2016, I'm beginning to wonder who's leading the way. If I had the liberty of arranging the leadership, my choices wouldn't be surprising. But I'm interested in the opinions and thoughts of my fellow FReepers without qualification. So share your ideas without reservation. We need to make decisions, agree, and advance.

In 2010, the best systems got around 25% WER for recorded phone conversations, meaning that a quarter of the words were misrecognized. This is actually pretty good, since people often speak very quickly with lots of background noise and add lots of disfluencies (e.g., “like…uh…yeah…so I…I…ok…right”). By comparison, the WER for Google Voice data, which includes search queries and dictated messages, was 16%. Compared to other areas of artificial intelligence, speech is a mature field, especially since it was commercialized so early by IBM and Dragon Systems. Because of this, by the time 2010 rolled around, even incremental progress had...

Wisconsin Sheriff David Clarke will surely have a target on his back now after his superb comments at the annual NRA convention in Indianapolis. As reported by The Blaze, Clarke revealed the seven words he would add to the Second Amendment: “Keep your hands off our guns, dammit.” What Sheriff Clarke again demonstrates is for conservatives it’s nothing to do with race — it’s all about individual character. His comments about amending the Constitution were aimed at former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, who said in his recent book that he would change the Second Amendment by adding five...

Allen West appeared on Jesse Lee Peterson's radio program yesterday where he vowed that he will "definitely" make another run for public office. Claiming that he lost his re-election bid in 2012 because Democrats and Republicans conspired to remove him from office because they knew he was "a threat to us and our business as usual way of ruining this great country," West took pride in being a target and declared that he was not going away. When Peterson asked West if he had any plans to run for office again in the future, West responded that "oh yeah, I...

It's as sweet a sound as you can imagine. A $10,000 guitar expertly crafted by the hands of Dave Berkowitz, a master luthier in Washington, D.C. But Berkowitz's guitars include fretboards and bridges made from Indian rosewood and ebony, which the U.S. Fish and Wildlife service declared to be illegal to import in its actions against Gibson Guitar back in August. Now, every time Berkowitz uses that wood to build his immaculate instruments, he is potentially breaking the law. "I use the exact same ebony and rosewood fingerboards that were confiscated in August from Gibson," Berkowitz told Fox News. Does...

Last week, after a decade of U.S. military presence in Afghanistan, President Obama announced a plan to begin withdrawing thousands of U.S. troops from the country this year. The war has been expensive -- a Brown University research project released Wednesday estimates the total cost of the U.S. wars in Afghanistan and Iraq at nearly $4 trillion (a figure that includes the ongoing cost of veterans' care). The human cost is more difficult to quantify, as more than 2,500 coalition troops (1,644 of them American) have now been killed, and civilian casualties are estimated at well over 100,000. Canadian combat...

I first became acquainted with the passing of Jeff Lucas a few years past at a memorial service in Gresham, Oregon. The room was filled with soldiers of all ages, young widows, children and proud, tear-eyed mothers. Most of the soldiers had seen action and bore battle wounds. It was one of the most difficult performances I ever had to give (I threw up several times before singing "None So Beautiful as the Brave"). I saw firsthand what folks in the military were truly like: humble, giving and courageous --nothing like what I had imagined, certainly nothing like the general...

Bohemia, NY – Local businessman John Gomez, Republican/Conservative congressional candidate for NY’s 2nd congressional district, has released a statement regarding Nassau County’s announcement to challenge the MTA Payroll Tax. Gomez: “I applaud Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and GOP Lawmakers for their stand against the MTA “Bail Out” tax and I encourage other elected officials to follow suit – including my opponent. “Recently, my opponent’s spokesperson stated in Newsday, “Steve Israel remains focused on rebuilding the local economy and passing tax reform to help Long Island families.” Yet, he remains silent on the MTA “Bail Out” tax! “Not standing up...

South Korea - a country that we have been protecting with our soldiers and their lives for more than 60 years - is dragging its feet in helping us deal with the Iran-nuclear weapons problem. How many Americans have lost lives for South Korea? How many soldiers do we have there now? and what about the cost to Americans to protect South Korea? They are dragging their feet because they make lots of money in Iran...but, besides the loyalty issue to the United States for years of help and friendship, would you not also think they would want Iran to...

ANN ARBOR, MI – In an unprecedented and astonishing development, the City of Dearborn, through its mayor and its official website, has personally attacked the four Christian missionaries arrested at the annual Arab International Festival on June 18, 2010. The Mayor’s intrusion into the case destroyed whatever semblance remained of an unbiased and professional law enforcement action following the illegal seizure of video cameras to prevent recording of the events surrounding the arrests. One of the Christian missionaries, Dr. Nabeel Qureshi, MD, tore apart the mayor’s five page statement attacking the missionaries. “Oh Really, Mayor O’Reilly?” [Click here to see video]Dr. Qureshi...

This is the next step in what has been described as police enforcement of Sharia law in a city dominated by a large Muslim population. To the jeers and shouts of “Allah Akbar” by the Muslim crowd, the four Christian missionaries were arrested and thrown in jail on June 18, 2010 by Dearborn Police officers at the Annual Arab International Festival held in...
