Just received an e-mail from Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House... Something you may not know Jeannie -- I keep a fast-paced schedule, both when I'm on Capitol Hill and when I'm on the trail for Democrats across the country. People ask what keeps me going. Most are astounded to learn I don't drink coffee. For me, two scoops of dark chocolate ice cream and a little hot water with lemon does the trick. And I'll tell you what keeps our network going: passionate supporters like you Jeannie. Since Trump took office, we've worked against his fear mongering, hateful rhetoric...

Any Freepers on the Delmarva know about rocket launches scheduled for this evening. I’m sitting here on my porch high atop Chapel Hill, NC with a view to the north from east to west. I just saw what appeared to be a rocket ascend from the horizon up to about 20 degrees and fade out. It was followed by 3 more, each appearing shortly after the previous ones disappeared. Unlike the airliners I can see from 30 or 40 miles out, these were all glowing red and followed similar paths. Figured the closest launch facility was at Wallops (I have...

Based on outcry from parents who bought into what may have started as an idle rumor, the FBI launched a formal investigation in 1964 into the supposedly pornographic lyrics of the song "Louie, Louie." That investigation finally neared its conclusion on this day in 1965, when the FBI Laboratory declared the lyrics of "Louie Louie" to be officially unintelligible.

Frustrated at the obstacles confronting his investigation of "Spygate," Sen. Arlen Specter accused the New England Patriots of "stonewalling" on Friday and suggested the NFL might never get around to questioning key witness Matt Walsh, a former Patriots video assistant. Specter's comments are in stark contrast to remarks on Wednesday from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, who told reporters that the NFL was moving toward an agreement that would allow Walsh to tell what he knows about the Patriots' spying practices without fear of being sued.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick and vice president of player personnel Scott Pioli issued a broad denial Sunday in a report on The Boston Globe's Web site regarding suggestions by a former employee that their team taped a St. Louis Rams walk-through before the 2002 Super Bowl. "In my entire coaching career, I've never seen another team's practice film prior to playing that team," Belichick told the newspaper Sunday. "I have never authorized, or heard of, or even seen in any way, shape, or form any other team's walk-through. We don't even film our own. We don't even want to see...

A day after meeting with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in Washington, Sen. Arlen Specter said he continues to be troubled by a number of issues surrounding the league's handling of Spygate and will continue his investigation. Specter, R-Pa., told ESPN.com that Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., offered support Thursday for his inquiry into the New England Patriots' questionable videotaping practices, saying Leahy is "prepared to have the committee pay for people who travel and investigate." Leahy sat in on a part of Wednesday's session with Goodell and league counsel, Specter said. Sen. Arlen Specter, ranking Republican on the Senate...

Thanks for the vanity vine. Currently, I am in NC but a nice business opportunity is formulating where I will have to decide on relocating to the Tampa area for the forseeable future. I am hoping to get any constructive input from Tampa Freepers and former Tampa Freepers and Freepers that are familiar with the surrounding area. I have traveled through Florida on numerous occasions (East coast and West coast) so I have a pretty good understanding of what to expect but I would love for anyone to share any "inside" information. Areas to avoid? Best "reasonable" housing areas? I...

If I may, I would like to ask any Navy (current or vet) Freepers for some help. My son, currently a high school junior has expressed interest in the Naval Academy and is currently working his way through the application process. I am looking for any advice, inside info, the good, the bad and the ugly, sources for nominations, etc... Any information or experience with the USNA that I can pass along would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Hatteras

RALEIGH -- A Cary family is grieving the loss of its Chihuahua, and the next-door neighbor stands accused in the slaying. On Monday, Cary police arrested Ivo Strahilov Dernev, 35, of 209 Dundalk Way in connection with the shooting death of Charlie, a 4-year-old dog belonging to Shannon Young. Charlie died Sunday after a pellet from a .177-caliber Crossman Air Rifle blocked a major artery and caused massive internal bleeding, according to Young and Dernev's arrest warrant. "We've lost a lot," Young said about Charlie's death. "I can't replace him."
