  • ‘Occupy Dallas’ Plans March To Federal Reserve

    10/05/2011 7:04:23 PM PDT · by HushTX · 47 replies
    CBS DFW ^ | October 5 2011
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – The anti-Wall Street protests happening across the country are about to spread to North Texas. A group is planning a huge march and demonstration in downtown Dallas Thursday and they’re willing to go to jail to get their point across. The group called Occupy Dallas is an offshoot of a group staging a protest in New York City called Occupy Wall Street. Groups are demonstrating and protesting government bailouts of big Wall Street institutions, joblessness, global warming and the influence of corporate money in politics among a host of other issues.
  • Military Rules of Engagement question (vanity)

    My own question | 07/30/2011 | hushtx
I am trying to locate information regarding some bizarre rules of engagement that were discussed on the forums a few months ago. Specifically, there was a concern about military patrols being required to keep their safeties on or not being allowed to load their magazines until combat started, or something to that effect. Does anyone remember this? And can anyone help me track it down? I have already scoured the archives using the search for keywords such as "military patrol rules of engagement" "unarmed patrol military afghanistan" and other such combinations, but I haven't had much luck. Any assistance would...

I had a lot to say about the MoveOn.org sponsored rally in Dallas this past Saturday, but honestly there is nothing I can say that compares to just seeing the images and video for yourself. They billed it as "Restoring the American Dream." In reality it was "Advancing the Socialist Agenda." Don't believe me? See for yourself. Click on the images to enlarge them.  Listen closely to what this guy says. He wants to do away with the Republicans and the Democrats and bring to the fore a "Worker's Labor Party." That is socialism, through and through. The most...

MoveOn is staging a protest in Dallas on Saturday the 26th. I was going to post the "call to action" from their site, but when I tried I got a message that informed me that MoveOn material is not wanted. So instead I will just put the location information up and give the rest of the material to those who specifically request it. It can be found at the bottom of this post. I remember the gathering we pulled off at the Cindy Sheehan circus down in Crawford. Can we do that again? Or improve on it? We can put...

Obama administration officials told a group of housing proponents this month that they must sign a confidentiality agreement to continue participating in talks — a highly unusual request that has drawn criticism from a top Republican lawmaker who is investigating the matter. The agreement, obtained by POLITICO, bars participants from disclosing details discussed at meetings of a rental policy working group, but it has angered some lobbyists and drawn congressional scrutiny. Cairo, 10 Feb. (AKI) - The United States space agency NASA has okayed the naming of one of its spaceships after a young Egyptian woman killed in late January during an anti-goverment protest, according to Egyptian daily Al-Masry-al-Youm. The paper quoted Essam Mohamed Haji, a young researcher at NASA as saying on Thursday he had received approval to put the young woman Sally Zahran's name on a spaceship heading for Mars. Zahran, a 23 English graduated and translator died after she was beaten about the head on 28 January with a truncheons during clashes with security forces in in the...

The world has been watching Egypt for over a week, waiting with baited breath to see what the outcome of the Day of Rage would be. As Americans, a people so sentimentally attached to the idea of liberty, it is easy for us to get caught up in what appears to be the struggle of an oppressed people. Perhaps a little too easy. We cannot let our heartstrings pull us away from our own struggle. While the developments in Egypt and the rest of the Middle East will have lasting consequences for us all, there is really very little...

There's another infamous shooting of a nine-year-old girl that is making headlines this week in Tucson. This time, we wonder if the rest of the media will bother to cover it. Brisenia Flores_0df9d.jpg The little girl's name was Brisenia Flores. She lived near the border with her parents and sister outside the town of Arivaca, Arizona. On May 30 of 2009, a woman named Shawna Forde, who led an offshoot unit of Minutemen who ran armed border patrols for patriotic "fun". I do not believe that Sarah Palin was intending to use surveyor symbols on her campaign map. I like guns, I play video games that have guns which use crosshairs, I have done at least a little research on guns and gun accessories. Even still, when I saw the symbols on the map I thought they were simplified images representing targets. I did not think she was trying to send a message that anyone should be shot or killed. I did not think that Sarah Palin wanted anyone to carry out an attack on a public figure. I did not...

Two Border Patrol agents from the El Centro Sector were assaulted by illegal aliens near downtown Calexico early Friday morning. According to Agent Keith A. Croxton, of the El Centro Sector Public Affairs Office, at approximately 2:30 a.m., agents were attempting to rescue three illegal aliens from the All American Canal, which is located approximately three miles west of the U.S. Port of Entry at Calexico, Calif., West, when the assaults occurred. “That area is one of our most dangerous areas when it comes to assaults on agents,” Croxton said. “They get rocked there quite frequently.”

In 1968, Congress passed a law that prohibited desecration of the United States flag. This was in response to the actions of the so-called “Peace Movement.” Because flag burning was often associated with anti-establishment rhetoric and behavior that was often considered sedition, it became synonymous with anti-Americanism. It was often assumed that burning the flag was akin to burning the United States in effigy. In some cases this may have been a correct assumption, but it cannot be fairly stated that it was always true. Much to the dismay of patriots and pro-American sentimentalists, the law prohibiting the desecration of...

A child has been denied entrance into an Episcopal school in Bedford because her parents are married lesbians. Jill and Tracy Harrison, lesbians married in 2006 in Canada, applied to enroll their daughter into St. Vincent's School, in June. Jill gave birth to Olivia, thanks to a sperm donor. Supporters of gay marriage have been celebrating the honeymoon of their recent victory over Proposition 8 in California. In what they believe is a move towards greater freedom and liberty, Judge Vaughn Walker repealed the California law banning same-sex marriage. But as with all marriages, the union between gay rights activists and the United States District Court for the Northern District of California brings with it unexpected baggage. In order to fully understand that issue, one must be familiar with the structure of government in the United States. Unfortunately, the liberal influence over education has stunted the intellectual growth of...

No source, this isn't a blog post or news article. I have some questions that I am hoping can be answered by folks with more experience and information. I have done some research, but am not entirely sure of my findings. I am going to enlist in the Army National Guard. Still, I want to enlist as a full time Guard, rather...

I recently made the statement “stop blaming Obama.” While it’s true that many continue the “Blame Bush” mentality, resorting to their tactics does little to fix the problem and is akin to a child hitting another kid because “he hit me first.” Before you get up in arms, let me clarify. I am not saying they are not at fault, and that they have not done many damaging and outright idiotic things. By no means am I claiming that Obama is the messiah with a small m, or that those who still support him are part of a steadily shrinking...

Stop blaming Obama. I have noticed a growing trend to attribute every crisis or failure to President Obama. Out of control spending, the leak in the gulf, sexual education in public schools are all Obama’s fault. Except, not really. While it is easy to blame the man in the White House for any number of problems in this country, and it is tempting to praise the Commander in Chief when things go right, there are more players in this grand game than the President alone. The obvious next step is to look at the President’s cabinet, those he has appointed...

I have discovered a new love. That is, something new that I love to hate. This entire concept of compulsory tolerance blows my mind. The most recent addition to the dialogue between the left and right, at least so far as I have been involved, is focused on enforced tolerance. “You have to respect and tolerate,” I was recently told. I was later reminded of this demand in another debate. Let’s be blunt for a second, since I apparently don’t do that enough. “No, I don’t have to be tolerant.” Before we get into the meat of the matter, let’s...

The economic benefits Health Savings Accounts (HSA) have on society as a whole are very complicated and outside the scope of this blog. What really matters to the average person is that you can have part of your paycheck deposited into your HSA without it being taxed. That means more money for medical expenses, a reliable and secure means of covering medical treatments, and the confidence that comes with such stability. Many people who use HSAs do so in order to save up for future medical procedures. It is not uncommon for a family to put money into an HSA...

The recent incident between the Israeli Defense Force and a Turkish flotilla has brought attention back to the ongoing struggle between Israel and the vast compact of Israel’s enemies. There will no doubt be an opportunity, quite possibly in a subsequent post on this site, to examine the incident itself. Before such a discourse is opened, however, it is worth looking at a particular argument that is commonly made by opponents of Israel. On May 14, 1948 the League of Nations established the nation of Israel in response to the persecution and attempted eradication of the Jews. It was created...

According to Arlington (Texas) Police Chief Theron Bowman, "Today's truant can very well be tomorrow's gang member.” Chief Bowman is intimately aware of the facts when it comes to gangs. He recently released three gang members who were arrested for outstanding warrants after receiving a phone call from an irate mother. It turns out he didn’t know they had warrants out for their arrest. He later visited the family of gang members, apparently to comfort them, after one of their gang members was shot and killed.      Deep in the heart of Texas, or so the saying goes, lies a small town called Crawford.  Nestled neatly between over here and over there, Crawford probably wouldn’t be a household name if not for three very well known people.
