  • The Democrats’ Kansas Distraction

    The Wall Street Journal ^ | Nov. 14, 2017 | Ron Eastes
When House Republicans unveiled their plan for tax reform this month, Democrats offered a curious response. Rather than give their own proposal, they held a mock hearing—a show trial, really—on Kansas’ 2012 tax cuts. Democrats see my state as proof that supply-side economics doesn’t work and that the GOP’s national tax reform will lead to budget cuts and enormous deficits. But the comparison is less a cautionary tale than a tall tale. I was Kansas’ state treasurer from 2011-17, and no one watched the dollars flowing in and out more closely than I did. Consider a few facts: First, the...
  • Sen. Jerry Moran on healthcare: ‘We must now start fresh’

Wichita Eagle ^ | JULY 17, 2017 8:10 PM | KATHERINE BURGESS AND JONATHAN SHORMAN
U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran came out against the latest version of the GOP’s healthcare plan late Monday, effectively killing its chances of passing the Senate. Moran, who years ago was the first member of Congress to formally seek repeal of Obamacare, announced his opposition along with Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah. The two defections are enough to prevent supporters from mustering the 50 votes needed. "We should not put our stamp of approval on bad policy," Moran said in a statement. "… We must now start fresh with an open legislative process to develop innovative solutions that provide greater...
  • CNN Faces Growing Racial Discrimination Lawsuit

The lawsuit against CNN and sister companies claims that African Americans receive lower performance ratings in evaluations. Both Fox News and CNN are in court defending themselves from racial discrimination, though the color of each suit is different. The one against Fox News has garnered more recent attention, perhaps thanks to questions that continue to circle around how the cable news network has handled allegations of harassment during the leadership of Roger Ailes. The suit, filed in New York Supreme Court last week by Tichaona Brown and Tabrese Wright, alleges that the two women were subjected to "top-down racial harassment,"...
  • Susan Rice Requested Unmasking of Incoming Trump Administration Officials

Susan Rice, who served as the National Security Adviser under President Obama, has been identified as the official who requested unmasking of incoming Trump officials, Cernovich Media can exclusively report. The White House Counsel’s office identified Rice as the person responsible for the unmasking after examining Rice’s document log requests. The reports Rice requested to see are kept under tightly-controlled conditions. Each person must log her name before being granted access to them. Upon learning of Rice’s actions, H. R. McMaster dispatched his close aide Derek Harvey to Capitol Hill to brief Chairman Nunes.

A new bill introduced in California’s state senate requires nursing homes and similar long-term care facilities to implement transgender bathroom policies. The bill makes it unlawful to require transgender residents to use the biologically correct bathroom, and prohibits nursing home employees from calling residents anything other than their chosen name and pronoun. Additionally, nursing homes that assign rooms based on gender will be prohibited from assigning rooms based on biological sex, if the bill passes.

    Wichita Eagle ^ | 04/01/2015 4:00 PM | KATE BRUMBACK
ATLANTA Eleven former Atlanta public school educators were convicted Wednesday of racketeering for their role in a wide-ranging conspiracy to inflate scores on students’ standardized tests. One of those convicted was Tamara Cotman, a former upper-level administrator for Wichita schools. Only one teacher was acquitted of all charges. The 11 convicted represented teachers, testing coordinators and other administrators who were accused of participating in the conspiracy dating to 2005, motivated by pressure to meet federal and local standards to receive bonuses or keep their jobs in the Atlanta Public Schools district of about 50,000 students. A state investigation in 2011...

WICHITA, Kan. - Preparations are underway at Wichita's Hyatt Regency to welcome hundreds of Kansas Republicans this weekend. When they show up at the door they'll see the familiar sign forbidding firearms, but they can ignore it if they have a concealed carry permit. Kansas GOP chairman Kelly Arnold says that was part of the deal that brought the state convention to this hotel. "The Second Amendment is a fundamental right that we have, and it's part of our Republican Party platform," Arnold says. "I know my committee and my convention goers are going to want to be able to...

    Question on Facebook
I thought I would post this here to see if anyone can help out. I'm not sure if anyone else caught it but I had Fox News' Journal Editorial Report on this afternoon while I worked. The panelists were discussing the record $13 BILLION fine J.P. Morgan Chase was just assessed by Eric Holder's Justice Department. As a point of reference, that fine is approximately FOUR TIMES LARGER than the fine levied against BP for the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico which, at the time, was the largest such fine on record. The discussion turned to the question...
  • Kansas cows heading for South Dakota

WICHITA, Kan. - It was a shocking sight--thousands of cattle dead, killed in an October blizzard. "I told my wife, if that happened up here and that happened to us, we'd be done," Stafford County rancher Jeff Scott says. "It would devastate us." So Scott got busy and put the word out to other cattle producers. They collected a bunch of cows, that'll go to South Dakota to help replace the herds.
  • How Kansas Governor Brownback Schooled Missouri On Tax Cuts, And Showed The Region How To Grow

I am sitting atop a limestone bluff overlooking the Osage River at my home in Folk, Missouri, and it seems as if the only way to get Congress to reform this country’s tax code is to ask for an intervention by the Great and Powerful Oz. But, here in the nation’s heartland, results from an experiment in state income tax policy just might provide other states with a roadmap to real growth.

While Governor Nixon travels the state telling taxpayers he can’t cut their taxes, Kansas cuts taxes and welcomes new jobs. When Kansas passed a series of tax cuts for businesses and individuals during the 2012 legislative session, the media and liberal politicians scoffed. “How can state revenues grow if taxes are cut?” they asked. Gloom and doom followed. Media and politicians across the country, even within the state borders, predicted financial chaos, massive state service cuts, even bankruptcy.

For perhaps the first time in recent history, male reproductive health is at the forefront of political debate. In at least six states, lawmakers — all women and all Democrats — have proposed bills or amendments in the last few weeks that aim to regulate a man's access to reproductive health care. It's their way of responding to the ongoing debate around contraception and abortion, said , director of the Women & Politics Institute at American University. Some would prohibit men from getting vasectomies, such as Georgia's , which states:

In a scene reminiscent of the SEIU’s siege of a Bank of America executive’s home in 2010, a mob of around 300 open borders protesters from across the country today descended on the home of Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, who is also counsel to the Immigration Law Reform Institute and, according to the following tweets from 501(c)3 Sunflower Community Action, the “King of Hate.”

It’s becoming clearer why Schweikert, Huelskamp, Rep. Walter Jones (R-N.C.) and Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) were yanked from their committee posts. It wasn’t ideological, sources involved with the negotiations said. Instead, they said, the lawmakers lost their spots because they worked against their colleagues or leadership. Huelskamp, for example, voted against Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R-Wis.) budget in committee, in addition to trying to bring down the farm bill. Other members affected by the discipline voted against measures in committee, as well.

A research attorney for a Kansas Court of Appeals judge has been temporarily suspended from her job pending an investigation about tweets she posted during a court hearing in former Attorney General Phill Kline’s ethics case. Ron Keefover, spokesman for the judicial branch, said Sarah Peterson Herr was suspended Friday while an investigation is conducted. She is a research attorney for Judge Christel Marquardt. The tweets were posted Thursday during a Kansas Supreme Court hearing deciding whether Kline’s law license should be indefinitely suspended for his conduct during investigations of abortion providers. The tweets predicted that Kline would be disbarred...
