The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that...

It seems as though Cruz has won the Senate and Dewhurst is headed back to his Lt. Governor job in Austin.I have a problem with our Lt. Governor. Dewhurst has shown what a lying establishment sleazeball he is. He doesn't need to be in Texas politics anymore. Time for the boot. So, tonight, the Give Dewhurst the Boot in 2014 (((ping list))) becomes active.

What do I hear tonight? Sounded like a couple of 24 pounders over at the base and a volley of 6 pounders, followed by the big guns again.Of course, it's a celebration today, and no-one is actually shooting.I can hear it. Catz are hiding. What I didn't hear tonight was my grandsons. Sorry. I just can't frigging hear them. Too high pitched at their age.Too many years around jets and guns and personal arms.I read their lips the best I could and my eldest grandson there tried hard to communicate with me.I don't hear so good anymore.I carry a coin in...

Sometime last night, my slightly dotty, older neighbor put a pan on the stove and went to check her email. The obvious resulted, with a standard issue kitchen grease fire. She panicked, couldn't contain it, and called me yelling: "Bring a fire extinguisher! Hurry!".So I hustled over to her house with my trusty kitchen extinguisher with the cobwebs on it.Of course, I did fail to put on pants. The upshot of the night was: A)Don't put a pan on the stove and walk off. Ever.B)Have a fire extinguisher, and know where it is.C) Don't wait to call 911. Those fire guys are...

The catch, of course, is the time it takes. But if you are unemployed, or under-employed (like me), you have more time than money. Fine cooking is about treating good...

A nation defines itself by the kind of army it creates for its protection. By that standard, America at the close of the twentieth century is large, powerful, and technologically sophisticated. But it is also muscle-bound, confused, wasteful, and desperately in search of a mission. In The Minuteman former Senator Gary Hart proposes a provocative and radical restructuring of America's armed forces, asking the questions that have gone unanswered for too long: Why do we have 1.5 million men and women under arms with no major threat to our security? Why is our militiary budget at the same level as ...
