  • Glenn Beck apologizes to Trump

Well, that is good to hear. Still does not explain why Trump thought Romney’s approach was “mean-spirited.”

Trump is a Johnny-Come-Lately on the border security issue. In 2012 he criticized Romney’s position on immigration.

    https://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/Donald-Trump-Ronald-Kessler/2012/11/26/id/465363/

    (excerpt)
“The Democrats didn’t have a policy for dealing with illegal immigrants, but what they did have going for them is they weren’t mean-spirited about it,” Trump says. “They didn’t know what the policy was, but what they were is they were kind.”

Romney’s solution of “self deportation” for illegal aliens made no sense and suggested that Republicans do not care about Hispanics in general, Trump says.
    (end excerpt)

I congratulate Trump for finally getting on the correct side of the border issue, but it’s only because he knows that will get him a lot of support to win the nomination.

Also, remember in his book “The Art of the Deal” he suggests to always start by aiming for the most you can get, then make concessions to get the deal approved. There is a strong chance that at the end of the negotiations he might only get part of what he is now promising.

No, I didn’t say you hated the guy. I pointed out that your post was understandable, but I didn’t understand the hatred of the other posts on this forum.

Yes, after the teddy bear thing, I do recall that things did go downhill. I think he didn’t expect his own fans to be so harsh on him for simply offering some charitable relief to the illegal kids. If people want to disagree with his policy on that, fine, but that doesn’t mean he deserves to be called the kind of names that people here are calling him.

I honestly don’t ever recall him seriously saying, “if you support Trump you are a racist.”

In any case, thanks for having a rational conversation about it, which is more than I can say about some other posts in this forum.

Chris37, thanks for giving an honest explanation. Even though I still listen to Beck, and I like some things about Trump but not everything, I know that Beck did disappoint some people by donating some relief supplies to the children being detained at the border. I understand the disagreement, but I don’t understand the hatred. I mean, the vile things that have been said on this one FR post has been hard to read, and I’ve been on FR for years. As for giving teddy bears to illegals, so what? Lots of Christian churches give donations to similar charities, and (against my wishes) the Catholic church offers direct and indirect support of illegal immigration. Am I supposed to stop going to church now? Can it simply be a point of disagreement, not a cause for hating each other?

One of Beck’s employees recently publicly endorsed Rubio, so you’ll have to retract your statement.

Yep. Imagine if our country's founding fathers were ruled by fear. "Sorry, this thing makes me uneasy. I can’t shake the worry that if a Convention is ever called the liberals loyalists would find some way to highjack it."

No, I haven’t forgotten those groups, nor do I have any inclination that Glenn Beck wants his audience to.

Well, I asked for an explanation and I got one. I am a long-time freeper who happens to also listen to Glenn Beck and I just wanted to understand why some freepers don’t like him.

Right, the actor didn’t mention Hitler specifically. You caught Glenn in messing up a paraphrase of someone else’s statement. Flag him 15 yards. Call up Glenn’s show and ask him to retract the statement. There is a larger point. There is a rise of a lot of activity similar to the buildup of war of the 1930s. The communist left is actually funding a lot of the fascists in Russia and Europe so they can play both sides against each other. That’s why our focus should be to unite against these radicals.

I don’t think Glenn said Hitler put gays in ovens. I think Glenn was quoting the Russian actor who said that something like that statement.

I don’t know why my fellow freepers are so harsh on Glenn Beck. The things he has done and said has helped me and my family and his charitable acts have helped thousands. He does his research too. Yes, he goes overly dramatic a few times on his show. When he does, I simply flip the channel but I come back later.

  • Voter Turnout Boomed Under Bush, Not Under Obama

Good points. The other thing these numbers point out is that white voters who voted for Obama in 2008 — they stayed home rather than flip their votes to Romney in 2012. I don’t think it would have been easy to get them to flip their vote. They view all politicians as empty suits, but in 2008 this guy came along they thought was “special” and they turned out to vote for him. Then they realized he was just like the others so they just returned to their normal pattern of not voting.

The other reliable voting groups — they are succeptible to campaigns that scare them into voting, such as with Biden’s “gonna put ya’ll back in chains” remark. So it is not surprising that voter turnout increased for those groups in 2012.

Isn’t it nice to have a sensible conversation about this so we can learn the correct lessons before 2016?

Also, analysis showed that in 2012, Romney won the so-called “independent” vote. Those precious “moderates” and independents that the are considered by the consultants to be the key to winning the election — Romney won them but still lost the election.

Initial voting results in 2012 indicated a decrease in votes, but later those numbers were revised up. I’m not sure what extra votes were added later, maybe overseas military ballots, maybe other absentee ballots & such. Rush might be still quoting the initial results. His overall point that the candidate has to get out the base is still correct.

From my own anecdotal experience, I believe many potential Romney voters in key states stayed home, but I don’t know the exact numbers. I always expected some expert to do a full analysis and announce the reasons but the narrative quickly switched to “we have to reach out to Hispanic voters.”

Ya, and I went to Huldah’s site and saw that he was citing as his authority Chief Justice Warren Burger. That should tell you that Huldah hasn’t done enough research. Warren Burger should never be quoted positively by someone who claims to want to support the Constitution.

Having an amendment saying that “Congress shall adopt a preliminary fiscal year budget...” does not automatically and permanently legalize any currently unconstitutional spending. Such an amendment still leaves unanswered whether that spending is constitutional or not.

If I am wrong and, after full legal analysis, we conclude that it does legalize such things, then we can add language to this amendment to resolve that.

We should unite on this issue and have an Article V convention of states. It is really the best way because it allows us to bypass interference by the lobbyist-funded legislators in DC.

The states have already lost much of their power, and this tool was created in the Constitution specifically to restore this power.

The libs will try to interfere but even if they get something passed we could still override it with 13 states refusing to ratify that amendment. We can get 13 states to refute a bad amendment.

Also, those who say, “it won’t do any good because the courts or the govt won’t enforce it” are basically saying it is too late to do anything and we might as well give up on all issues.
