the one thing i didn't like about this article is the implication that before these new up and coming urbanites started homeschooling, typical homeschooling parents (you know--the religious ones, or the ones that choose to live in the country) were not educated...

whenever anybody asks me where my kids go to school, i say we've chosen an alternative lifestyle... alternative education... we homeschool...

I don’t understand texting. Why not just call the person and talk?

i loathe talking on the phone... i especially hate making phone calls... i love email, i love texting and i pray to get someone's answering machine or voicemail when i do make a call... even as a teenager, i hated talking on the phone... i do think it's gross to ignore your kids while texting... i see that often...

Costco is not all that cost effective for my family anymore... our Costco bill has shot up significantly this past year... we haven't gone regularly the last two months...

yes--this story sound a lot like the Diane Zamora and David Graham case in Texas... they killed Adrianne Jones... although she was not Graham's ex-girlfriend... Graham cheated on Zamora with Jones... Zamora's sick response was to convince Graham that they had to get rid of Jones in order for their love to remain pure... crazy...

we take our vehicles in every 3,000 miles... the guys there say we are one of two customers who go in regularly...

we always took our two kids, and never--not even once--did either misbehave... we got complimented all the time for our childrens'polite behavior... from wait staff and fellow customers... we even took them to late-night dinners at fancy restaurants when we were on vacation... never an issue... we didn't ask for anything special for them from the establishments, but they often offered nice things to our kids, like a plate filled with black olives... a bowl full of maraschino cherries... blueberry muffins, etc... and from the time they could talk, our children have ordered their food themselves... that always impressed the waiters and waitresses...

LOL, my family knows my phone number. I like talking better than writing to them.

and this might be the thing for me... i HATE talking on the phone... shoot me an email, send me a text... i pray that i get someone's voicemail when i call... i like talking in person, but have never liked the phone... even as a teenager... i am not FB friends with my local friends... people i see on a regular basis... it's basically family... not people from my past... ha!

i have such a large family, i am the youngest of seven... thinking that i can talk on the phone with each one to catch up is not in the cards for this very busy Classical Christian homeschooling mom who serves in her church as deacon and Bible teacher... i like knowing my nieces and nephews better... and it's because of FB...

i absolutely love it... i have family in NM, OR, NC, AZ, NV and UT... i live in the Central Valley, CA... i also have family in San Diego, Los Angeles, Santa Cruz... nieces, nephews, cousins...

most of my family is in the San Jose area... so we do get together pretty often... more than most other families... but being in touch with them on a regular day-to-day basis has made our gatherings more personable... now we don't have to spend our short time together "catching up" and making small talk... being able to more easily keep up with each other has been a blessing... hubby and i are having an 80s party this summer... being able to share this in several ways on FB with our family has just about everyone making plans to come... even those from out of state...

i know FB can be destructive... so can texting and other technology... but it doesn't have to be... no matter the device, a person's character is what comes into play...

i've also participated is deep, rewarding discussions via our church's FB... i don't know how these would have happened without FB...

You are cheating your kids out of a million wonderful things. There's brilliant, educational, fun things on everywhere, all the time.

this is so silly... our kids read wonderful, classical literature, know Latin, are learning Greek... they study art, music, science and public speaking... are excellent swimmers and top-notch baseball players... both study piano, and our older son is teaching himself guitar... in fact he just picked up an electric guitar... they camp, build, plant, even cook... they are learning how to handle firearms, and they also feed the homeless.. they are witty, sharp and are at ease around all people... our yougest even has a talent agent... and they are only 10 and 15 years--with so much more ahead of them... all of this without television... and i would say, "all of this because they don't watch television."

Having spent enough time sleeping out of doors, I can tell you “No Thanks”. There is a reason the outdoors is,well,outdoors.Give me a nice bed, a good crapper and soft TP. A RV is the closest I come to camping anymore.

in my 20s and 30s, i still had it in me to do real camping... even with kids... but there came a time when my body could no longer tent camp... and i love having my own shower...

something like this happened to my son when he was about 12... his team mate swung his bat in an area where he was not supposed to.. my son was bending down to pick up his bat, stood up and got whacked in the face... broke his nose... the doctors were most concerned with his eye... it was during practice, and we were at our younger son's game... got the phone call... rushed over to my son and about fainted when i saw his face... he recovered... but it wa awful...
