  • North Korea drops demand on US troop withdrawal, South Korea says.........

RumInt is that Trump already met with Kim back in Nov ‘17, and that the disaster at the NorK nuke test site in Oct was the result of US action, and cost Kim a major portion (if not all) of his bomb engineers. With allegedly nothing left of his nuke program, and possibly a rather pointed warning that any future missile launches would never leave the ground, Kim is now negotiating to save face (and probably his backside). He may have been offered the opportunity to “escape” to China to live out his life in relative obscurity in exchange for his cooperation.

The proportion might not be that great, but the raw number is. It’s probably about 40 million in China vs 30 million in India, because of China’s One Child, fewer girls get born overall, whereas in India girls have a slightly higher chance of being born and surviving, since parents can try again.

So while the percentage of extraneous men in each country isn’t that big, it’s still a lot of people. Add in that the imbalance (as noted in the article) allows women to marry up, and you end up with a bunch of lower-class men, mostly uneducated, who now have no prospects. That in turn magnifies the problems of violent crime etc, which go up anyway but will go up even more due to the demographics of the superfluous population.

India is at least trying to address this, with their Save the Girl Child campaign. That will help down the road, but won’t do anything for the men already in the population.

This is likely what’s driving the epidemic of rape in India lately as well. The latest two, an 8-yo girl in Kashmir and a second less-publicized one a few days later, are roiling India and have the potential to badly damage the ruling BJP just before the next election cycle kicks off.

  • Editorial: Minimum wage hike a bad deal

Most of the time the MinWage has increased, it’s to keep up with inflation, and the increase has been small amounts. This particular initiative is intended to re-focus the MinWage from a pay floor for entry-level jobs into a so-called “living wage” i.e. pay at a level one could theoretically live on. It’s a near-doubling of the current rate. If your goal in life is to live on the pay of a supermarket grocery bagger, then you have bigger problems.

This is (as has been demonstrated many times already) going to gut small businesses and the entry-level job market. The kinds of jobs that this will affect aren’t worth paying $15/hr for. Not only that, but this will drive up the cost of many of the jobs that are just above entry-level. The grocery cashier or meat shop clerk now has to also get a pay raise in order to keep their pay appropriately proportional to the entry-level folks. People who worked their butts off to get that raise in the past are now going to feel slighted because the new guys are automatically getting what it used to take months to achieve. The business owners/managers are going to have to find a way to mollify those senior workers or face losing them. They’re also going to lose some of their low-end manpower (as already seen) because they now can’t afford to keep as many entry-level folks on the payroll. Their overhead has gone up, while revenues stay the same.

And that’s not even getting into all the new costs that unions will inflict on the economy.

This is going to go a long way towards killing whatever economic momentum Mass has been riding. They used to manage to stay ahead of their socialist tendencies, but they’re now well on the way to Californification.

  • India outrage spreads over rape of eight-year-old girl

My Hindu wife was in tears last night while reading about it. She says (and this is a sentiment apparently shared by many Indians) that she wishes the US would take over running the government of India for a century to rewrite the bureaucracy and “habits” of the society there.

In this case, I’m for it. Crimes like this, as a result of the “Delhi Rape Case” aka Nirbhaya a few years ago, now carry the death penalty in India. The typical method of execution in India currently is hanging. I think they should introduce The Chair as well.

In this case, it was indeed the “Hindus” who committed the crime. They’re a radical nationalist splinter faction called RSS, along the lines of some of the more repulsive white-nationalist groups in the US, but ideological rather than racial. They’ve been empowered due to the election of Narendra Modi and the BJP, who are much more nationalist. The last time the BJP was in power, they did the same kind of things: raping and killing kids, burning houses, destroying public buildings.

I can understand the antipathy against Muslims based on the many many false-flag incidents they create, but this isn’t one of them. The perpetrators were caught essentially red-handed in this situation.

Forcing them into “common carrier” status sounds good if we have a sane President like Trump, but when Obama 2.0 or Hillary 4.0 gets into office, and imposes the “Fairness Doctrine” on those “common carriers”, all conservative speech will be silenced by government order rather than the whims of some over-entitled jerk CEO.

I’d much rather see either the “Cake Shop Ruling” (the business owner’s personal objections to a customer’s lifestyle aren’t grounds for refusing service) or an anti-trust suit be levied against Facebook/Twitter/Google/Youtube.

I believe the line “He emboldens monsters, wielding guns, governmental power, or just smug doublespeak” is a list of points i.e.:

He emboldens monsters: monsters wielding guns, monsters wielding government power, or monsters wielding smug doublespeak.

Monsters wielding guns is probably supposed to refer to the school shooter and other supposed “mass shooters”, but in large part those people have proven to be either mentally-deranged individuals, or actual liberals.

Monsters wielding government power is less clear. Maybe Whedon means the Consumer Protection thing, where a Trump appointee summarily dismantled the carefully-scripted Leftist fiefdom set up by Sen Warren, or the housecleaning going on at the EPA.

Smug doublespeak is probably a referral to us Deplorables.

Time distortion is not only possible, it’s necessary. Space and time are interlinked at the cosmological level, and distortion of one distorts the other. At very high speeds, time distorts significantly (passes slower). At high spatial distortions, the same thing happens, such as at the event horizon of a black hole.

I have to wonder, though. Indian trains, for all their shabby appearance, are run fairly well. They’re also a lot more manual than US passenger trains. I wonder if it was a problem with the locomotive, because if the train were just rolling out of control, every carriage has an independent brake wheel, and they could have just set the brakes on all the carriages. If the locomotive was still driving, though, that would be a different matter.

Not sure how this is a problem. The Ganges is currently way below normal flow, with some stretches completely dry, due to volume being siphoned off for irrigation and other use. Presumably it wouldn’t just be the Ganges that gets more water, either. The other big rivers would also increase, and while there would likely be some challenges during the Monsoon, the increased flow is likely to be more of a benefit than a hazard. I would imagine that, in the long run, since water is already increasingly scarce in India, they’d find some way to capture some of that increased flow for use later, such as creating large reservoirs or artificial catch basins wherever possible.

The F-4 was not that great a one-size-fits-all. It was supposed to be a standoff interceptor and long-range bomber. It was incredibly complex, and damn big. And we tried to turn it into a dogfighter. It kinda sorta worked, but there were far better solutions out there. The main restriction is that there are only so many spaces on a carrier, so you kind of have to make do with what you have.

The AF can get away with multiple varieties of dedicated aircraft e.g. F-16 for dogfighting, f-15 for long range interceptor/air-superiority, A-10 for ground attack etc. I have to think that the Navy tries to minimize the number of different aircraft varieties they put on the carriers, if only so there are enough of any one type to be useful (they have to carry ASW and helos and other things in addition to combat aircraft).

Also, isn’t the F-22 a dedicated air-superiority/interceptor similar to the F-15? My recollection is that it was never intended for the multirole activities the F-35 was supposed to take on.

The cultural-appropriation nazis need to start going after all the people who “culturally appropriated” Western European/American culture. No more straight hair for black women. No more jeans or t-shirts for Asians. No more hamburgers, no more etc etc. Even leaving aside all the Western-originated technology innovations, nearly every non-US/non-European culture has adopted hundreds of aspects of Western culture.
