For more than a year, the American Family Association has pleaded with Home Depot (HD) not to publicly back gay rights. The home improvement retailer has ignored those pleas. In fact, the Atlanta-based company continues to participate in the city's gay pride parade, as it has done for years.

What this means is right now, based on the data of a respected Democratic pollster, Democrats would — if the election were held today — suffer a wipeout that makes what happened to them in 2010 look like a walk in the park. And things are likely to get worse, not better, as the months roll on.

An unusual device that uses trained wasps, rather than trained dogs, to detect specific chemical odors could one day be used to find hidden explosives, plant diseases, illegal drugs, cancer and even buried bodies, according to a joint study by researchers at the University of Georgia and U.S. Department of Agriculture. skip In the current study, the researchers used Microplitis croceipes, a species of tiny parasitic wasps that can be trained to detect certain odors by associating the odors with a food reward. The wasps are not capable of stinging humans, the scientists say. Training a single wasp to detect...

I almost never do vanity posts but I have seen three movies lately that I want to comment on. I thoroughly enjoyed two of these movies, The Guardian, and Fly Boys, in spite of fact that the professional film critics were generally dismissive of them as being cliché ridden.

ESTERO — People across the United States may be proud to be Americans right now — but employees at Florida Gulf Coast University's library aren't allowed to show it. Library Director Cathy Hoeth told her faculty and staff members not to wear stickers saying, "I'm proud to be an American," because, she said, they may offend foreign students, faculty or other people who use the library. "We're doing everything we can to meet FGCU's standards of civility and tolerance," Hoeth said. "As a librarian, I want the highest respect for everyone coming to the desk." But Hoeth's concern for sensitivity ...
